25.01.2022 The CK Speech Pathologists recently came across The DLD Project. The DLD Project is an organisation that advocates and educates about Developmental Language Disorder. Here is the link to their recent podcast about DLD and the NDIS. Erin West, Speech Pathology Australia’s liaison with the NDIS is interviewed and provides some excellent insights and advice on the NDIS application process. There are a number of tips and recourses that would be amazing for any client who is dealing with the NDIS and we highly recommend listening (we often listen to podcasts when we are out driving!). Here is the link:

25.01.2022 We are so excited to announce that our OT therapy assistant, Isabella is now a fully registered OT with AHPRA. Isabella has been a familiar face around the clinic for the past few months and is already showing signs of being an exceptional clinician and a preference among many of our clients. Isabella has a background in disability support which gives her a unique understanding and point of view that she applies to her work. She will be working at Capable Kids as an OT four days a week from Tuesday to Friday. Congratulations Isabella, we are so glad to have you on board!

24.01.2022 We are working really hard on getting through our Speech Pathology waiting list. If you are on our list expect a call from Arnouska to book in your initial assessment. We are planning to get as many assessments as we can in preparation for therapy in 2021. If you are on our list and haven’t heard from us or if you’d like an assessment, give us a call at 95203338. We have our Speech Pathology list down to under three months.

20.01.2022 Online Occupational Therapy!

20.01.2022 Its a very exciting week this week at Capable Kids. We have officially opened upstairs! This has allowed us to double our therapy spaces - we now have two OT gyms and four therapy consulting rooms. Our new OT Natalie Edenborough has started today. We have two final year Speech Pathology students - Renee and Afiqa with us for the next 6 weeks. Candice Chiu, our Speech Pathologist who has been working on Saturday last term will now be working Thursday and Friday. Natalie Manle...y, our director has officially come back from maternity leave (although we all know she never really left!) and will be supervising everyone and doing assessments. If you would like a Speech Pathology assessment, conducted by our final year students and supervised by our experienced therapists at a discounted rate please call the office. Our waiting lists for Speech Pathology is very short at the moment. Our OT list is still a little longer, however with last minute school holiday cancellations you may get in sooner than you think. We are still looking for a new OT and Speech Pathologist to join our team, so if you think youd fit in with our crazy, fun, dynamic, supportive team please call us on 95203338.

20.01.2022 How wonderful is this?

20.01.2022 Congratulations Lauren on become a published researcher. Laurens Speech Pathology honours research thesis titled Valuing relationships: The impact of a sensory program on the interactions of adolescents with severe-to-profound intellectual disabilities was published in the Journal of Intellectual Disabilities. Contributing to research in the field of communication and social interaction shapes the future of our profession and contributes to a better outcome for our clients. We are so proud of you Lauren, being published is a massive achievement!

19.01.2022 We are so pleased to announce Art Therapist Jedda Rafter will be joining the capable kids team! Please contact us if you have any further questions at : [email protected]

19.01.2022 COVID-19 We just wanted to reach out to all of our CK families to let you know that we are taking infection control very seriously. Here are some of the precautions we will be taking over the coming weeks: encouraging hand sanitising before entering the session and upon leaving as well as any time we think it is needed throughout the session.... installing hospital grade antibacterial soap dispensers in all toilet and kitchen areas. It probably wont smell as pretty as our passion fruit handfoam did but its a sacrifice we are willing to make. UV sterilisation of all toys/equipment after every use. We are lucky that we purchased our UV steriliser around 6 months ago as they are all sold out in Australia. The benefit of the unit we have is that it can sterilise wooden and material toys as well as plastic. Restriction on using equipment that cant be wiped down or sterilised easily (such as the cloud in the OT rooms). If this equipment is required we will make sure it is sprayed with Glen 20. Removal of toys and books in the waiting areas. We would love to know if you have any more suggestions for us! If you do not feel comfortable attending the clinic, the management team have been consulting our industry bodies and the research journals on the best wait to deliver teletherapy. There is an abundance of research out there saying that this is as effective as coming into the clinic. As the client, all you need is a device and an internet connection. If this is something that you would like to investigate further please let us know. We are committed to making Capable Kids a safe, germ mitigated clinic during these crazy, unprecedented times while at the same time continuing to provide effective therapy. If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns please dont hesitate to contact us.

You can also purchase add ons - putty ($10), crayons ($12-16), whiteboard markers ($14) and Wiki Stix ($10).

17.01.2022 We have implemented a contactless check in system for all visitors to the Capable kids clinic. This is mandatory for all families on arrival of your appointment. All you need is your phone camera to scan the QR code. This will help us to contact everyone who has entered the premises incase of an outbreak of COVID-19. Thanks to Excite Safety for helping us set this up!

16.01.2022 We are very excited to announce that next year, the Capable Kids team will be rolling out the Early Start Denver model in 2021. This is a great, evidence based program for preschool aged children with ASD. If you would like to know more, please contact the office.

11.01.2022 Another amazing publication from the DLD project. 08.01.2022 Great opportunity for free Telehealth!

07.01.2022 Its business as usual here with some precautions. Breaking news from the federal government... Allied health considered essential services during COVID-19 Breaking news from Federal Health Minister, the Hon Greg Hunt, in light of some states shutting down non-essential services, the Minister has confirmed that ALL allied health businesses nationally can continue working and are encouraged to do so. The Minister has also indicated that the Department of Health is now develo...ping full allied health telehealth options, along with other health and medical services, within the week. This will be part of a staged plan and he encourages providers to continue vital face-to-face services where possible. More information to follow when details are known. We have a full Telehealth plan available for our clients who are unwell (but still able to work), have family members who are unwell or who are at risk. We need your support more than ever so that Capable Kids will still be here after COVID-19. If you have any questions please contact us.

07.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap team. The girls and I would love to thank everyone for their support this year - who would have ever guessed things were going to take the turn they did when we opened the doors to the new office in January. We made it though! I wanted to take this moment to publicly thank all of our amazing, dedicated staff and the families who trust us with their children. A special thanks go to the real bosses of Capable Kids - Amy and Noosh, who tirelessly keep things... ticking over, making sure everyone is where they need to be and Ian for doing all the behind the scenes work to keep the doors open. We also say farewell to our OT Deb who is moving on to a different project. Congratulations to our Speech Pathology Interns Mel, Brittany, Brooke and Lucy for graduating. We are excited to announce that Mel, Brittany and Brooke will be staying on in Speech Pathology roles next year. Lucy has found a job a little bit closer to home. Isabella, our Occupational Therapy Intern has also graduated and is already working with us as an OT. Finally we welcome back Caitlin, who is coming back from maternity leave in a leadership capacity with some limited clinical spots. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope your holidays are restful and fun. We are closed from today, Monday 21st December and will reopen on Monday 4th January. We can’t wait to see what 2021 brings. We are so proud of all our clients for making the progress they have made. Natalie
