07.01.2022 Note latest research on Early onset group B streptococcus (GBS) by Farah Seedat and colleagues published in 2019 in BMJ Key messages: Early onset group B streptococcus (GBS) disease is an important health problem and efforts should continue to better understand and prevent it... Selective maternal culture is not an accurate test to predict early onset GBS disease in neonates, and we dont know why some colonised mothers have a neonate with early onset GBS and others dont The current approach to screening would lead to 99.8% of screen positive women and their babies receiving unnecessary intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis Lack of high quality evidence on clinical outcomes makes it impossible to quantify whether universal GBS screening would have any benefit and assess whether large scale intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis is safe A universal antenatal culture screening programme cannot currently be recommended See more

05.01.2022 In this prospective longitudinal study of low-risk women it made clear that increased level of physical activity lead to: shorter duration of the first stage of labor, lower gestational age better oxygen saturation in the umbilical artery.... better apgar scores Also, results suggest that newborns of more physically active women have a better acidbase balance, which might reduce the risk of caesarean section due to loss of fetal wellbeing. 04.01.2022 More fantastic research from Australia. Edith Cowen University researchers have identified a low-cost way of helping thousands of women and babies. Preeclampsia... is one of the leading causes of maternal-foetal mortality worldwide, responsible for the death of 76,000 mothers and 500,000 babies each year, primarily in the developing world. By combining survey responses with magnesium and calcium level blood tests, researchers were able to predict about 80% of cases. The good news is that identified early, it can be treated. https://www.ecu.edu.au//simple-test-predicts-dangerous-pre See more

03.01.2022 When was the last time you reviewed your lesson plans and objectives? Here are some tips if youre due for a review. Build in regular reviews for your lesson ...plans to ensure that they evolve to take into account the latest research and provide adequate coverage of topics. Make sure you remember to measure your participants learning to gauge if your learning objectives are being met. Find any gaps and adjust your curriculum to meet the learning objectives. You can measure your learning objectives in multiple ways to ensure participants have comprehension of the topics you have covered. Consider verbal feedback and discussion, surveys that measure participants confidence levels for topics and mechanisms for feedback after the class concludes (such as a follow up contact).
