17.01.2022 What an amazing looking jellyfish! This was snapped recently in Wallis Lake on the Mid North Coast, by Dr Vincent Raoult from the University of Newcastle (Ou...rimbah Campus). "Jelly blubbers, aka blue jellies, aka Catostylus mosaicus, can have bright blue pigments. Beautiful!" We think so too! (Usually found further north, the sting can be painful but generally poses no serious risk to humans.)

14.01.2022 At approximately 11:10am the State Operations Centre (SOC) received notification from NSW POLICE of a capsized vessel off Sand Bar Beach south of Forster. With ...immediate response, Lower North Coast Duty Officer 14 was briefed and the following assets were tasked to attend: Pacific Palms IRB Lower North Coast Ski 3 LNC Duty Officer 11 and 18. Upon arrival to Sand Bar, the 3 POI’s were observed walking back from the rocks and along the beach with no injuries to awaiting SLS Duty Officers and NSW Police. Other assets involved in this incident were Westpac Rescue from Newcastle and Port Stephans Water Police, who were on their way back south after patrolling Wallis Lake over the weekend. As this incident ended and assets were being conveyed back to Pacific Palms slsc, LNC14 was tasked to a member of the public in distress at Tuncurry Rock pool due to the strong outgoing tide. Upon arrival no persons were located. These incidents just highlight the importance of inter agency cooperation and the need for the public to know their limitations. Remember, if you get into trouble, other put their lives at risk to save yours. - Always seek advice from Lifesavers/Lifeguards. - attend patrolled locations - log on/off with your local Marine Rescue NSW unit - advise others of where you are going and how long for. 12.01.2022 #WARNING // Lifeguards from the Australian Lifeguard Service NSW (ALSNSW) are urging beachgoers and families heading to the coast these school holidays to only ...visit patrolled beaches and to swim between the red and yellow flags. "Dangerous surf and tidal conditions along the coast have created strong water currents and rips which are forming close to shore," said Scott McCartney, ALSNSW Lifeguard Coordinator. "With school holidays approaching in NSW, we want to ensure families safely enjoy their time at the beach and the easiest way to make sure that happens is for people to swim between the red and yellow flags." The recent severe weather event on the north coast has resulted in a large amount of debris on beaches and within the water. A number of beaches have also suffered severe sand erosion and families are urged to keep children away from potentially unstable sand dunes. Before heading to the coast, please check the Beachsafe website or download the app to stay up-to-date with beach conditions and patrol times: http://bit.ly/SLSBeachSafe #swimbetweentheflags

09.01.2022 This afternoon around 315pm LNC11 was advised of reports of a capsized vessel off Old Bar Beach. Upon advice from LNC11, Surfcom activated Taree Old Bar slsc cl...ub call out team to respond along with LNC16. Upon arrival on the scene it was reported that the capsized vessel was actually a dead whale. Please be mindful that in the coming days whilst the dead whale is in our region, there is the likelihood of increased shark activity. Please use the water with caution.

03.01.2022 Freshen up on your rip knowledge and be sure to pass this on to any friends or family from out of town coming to visit Forster-Tuncurry’s lovely beaches this summer. Always choose to swim between the red and yellow flags if possible.

01.01.2022 Around 330pm this afternoon SLS was activated to repond to reports of a possible downed aircraft off Forster. LNC Duty Officers along with inflatable rescue boa...ts from Forster and Cape Hawke surf clubs responded. After a 1.5hr extensive search alongside Marine Rescue Forster, nothing was sighted. All assets returned safely to base, standing down due to the day light quickly disappearing. We are aware that Westpac 4 has been tasked to search the area. SLS is awaiting confirmation from MAC regarding whether our assets stand down tomorrow or continue a search. It is a timely reminder that no matter the weather, no matter the day, no matter the craft you are operating (aircraft, boats, etc) it is important to always notify people of your departure and arrival times. Whether that notification is to air traffic control, marine rescue or loved ones - it can save your life.
