24.01.2022 The long-awaited maintenance catch-up work by Lighthouse Maintenance Contractor, Mark Sheriff OAM, is underway and should be completed by Nov 18th. Previously postponed because of COVID-19. The Lighthouse will be closed during this time. Volunteers are encouraged to come along and work alongside Mark. He is more than happy to teach National Trust Volunteers different aspects of maintenance work which we can attend to once his work is done. He will be putting together a kit of tools and materials to be left for use at the Lighthouse. If you are interested in helping out during Mark's time here, please contact 0427 854 175

20.01.2022 Kingston Community School Reception Class visited Kingston Pioneer Museum today with teachers and parents to view the heritage collection held in the Museum from days gone by. Many questions were asked of the older generation present from our very welcome young visitors. A walk across Isabella St., through the backyard entrance to Bryan’s Horse-drawn vehicle workshop was also on the agenda. Here they had a closeup view of Bryan’s present project. The restoration of 'Gambier Bakeries' Van built in the 1950’s. (and Victor’s dog!)

04.01.2022 Photos from the Kingston SE Pioneer Museum photo collection. Includes a selection from the Kingston Camera club slides taken at Jip Jip Rocks Conservation Park in 1965. The Kingston Branch of the National Trust of S.A was formed at Kingston on the 15th July,1964 . As its initial projects the Branch played a major role in having two very important areas declared reserves in 1964. These were Jip Jip (Gip Gip) Conservation Park & Baudin Rocks Fauna Reserve. Both areas were gazetted in 1965 and were placed under the National Parks Service of SA in 1967 both areas came under the control of the newly formed National Parks Commission . Verne McLaren was appointed by Government to that Commission as a foundation member.

03.01.2022 ROYAL MAIL HOTEL, KINGSTON. WAS LICENSED IN 1867. John Saunders, was proprietor of the Royal Mail Hotel in the 1880’s. He advertised the Royal Mail in 1883 as The Largest and most convenient hotel in Kingston, being nearest the railway and jetty. A porter in attendance on arrival of trains and steamers. Private apartments. Booking office for Adelaide, Robe, Beachport Mails. (Jessie M. Banks, Kingston Flashbacks. Part 11) When Mr. Gall began running the coaches to and from Meningie he changed the booking office to the Royal Mail Hotel The Robe and Beachport coaches also left from the Royal Mail Hotel after April 1880.
