25.01.2022 The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) is conducting a study to better support Western Australian small business owners from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds. To support OMI’s ongoing planning, a research project has been commissioned to better understand the challenges faced by CaLD small business owners, the opportunities that they bring, along with the positive economic, social and cultural impacts they make to the wider Western Australian com...munity. OMI’s research vendor Capitalis, will be conducting phone interviews in the coming weeks with key CaLD small business owners to collect insights into CaLD small businesses and how OMI can support the CaLD small business community. If you are interested to take part in this study, you can reach out to Gareth Tranter ([email protected]) and Vanessa Fong ([email protected]). Capitalis will set up a brief telephone interview at a time suited to you. Your responses will remain anonymous unless you instruct Capitalis otherwise. A report will also be published on the OMI website to help promote CaLD small businesses to the wider community. Please reach out to Capitalis or OMI ([email protected]) if you have any queries in relation to this initiative. Please feel free to share this information with others in your community.

22.01.2022 Still two weeks to go....... PHOTOGRAPHERS WE WANT YOUR PHOTOS OF CAPEL AND WELL PAY FOR THEM!... The Capel Chamber of Commerce is producing a set of postcards featuring Capel townsite and surrounds. The postcards will be sold at various outlets around town in response to increasing requests from tourists and visitors to take home a local souvenir. The Chamber invites amateur and professional photographers to submit up to 5 photos of a scene which highlights an important part of the town or the Shire. It could be our famous curved bridge over the Capel River; the tuart forest; something to do with horses; Ironstone Gully Falls; or maybe our beautiful beaches. All entries will be judged by the Chambers executive committee and the 4 winning photos will each receive a $50 cash prize. Entries must be electronic images at least 1 megabyte in size. Send your entries to the Chamber at [email protected] Closing date is Friday February 28. So go through your photo albums or visit your favourite part of the Capel Shire to take that special photo for our postcard competition. Each winning photographers name will be shown on the reverse of the postcard which features their photo. Entry implies that the Chamber has free use of each photograph for use on a postcard or for general promotional or marketing purposes. Photograph credit: Janene Wells

13.01.2022 What to do if you have been affected by mail tampering in the Capel area. Contact Australia Post on 13 13 18 to register a complaint quoting ref number 26709868... Keep a copy of the reference number they give you. You can escalate this complaint if you are unhappy with the decision. If you are unhappy with the response post escalation you can contact the Postal Industry Ombudsman https://forms.business.gov.au/smart/servlet/SmartForm.html (Ironically the link from the Australia Post site does not work) If you wish to lodge a compensation claim you will need to attend the Post Office along with the damaged envelope. Take note, this compensation is capped at $50. (Im unsure how you will go about claiming something that wasnt recovered) Feel free to make a Police report 131 444 or https://www.police.wa.gov.au//Stolen-and-Damag/Questions-A at this stage we unsure that it will achieve anything but it doesnt hurt to have a paper trail! For those concerned about Identity Theft, the advice I received from the police was to cancel all bank/credit accounts they might have had access to and open new accounts. They also said to contact the Credit Reporting Agency ,Veda Advantage https://www.equifax.com.au/pe/articles/whats-identity-theft and ask for an alert to be placed on your file. 10.01.2022 A BIG thank you to Capel Bendigo Community Bank for handing out $40,000 to the Capel community at a fun night last Saturday. Every group attending received some much-deserved funding support for their many good projects. The Capel Chamber of Commerce was one of the recipients, being granted $1000 to cover most of the cost of the first engineer's report for our Metal Horses project (more details about this project soon). Thank you again to Capel Bendigo Bank staff, board members and customers. And what was our trusted Chamber committee member Lynda doing on the night? Enjoying a free hand massage!!!!

10.01.2022 The Chamber held a very successful sundowner this evening at RTW Metal Steel Fabrication and Construction. Many thanks to Rick, Javo and Claire for hosting us providing the drinks and to Bec and Kandy from the Chamber for some excellent finger food. The Chamber will be knocking on your door once the coronavirus pandemic has done its worst to see if you'd like a Metal Horse to help promote the Capel townsite and shire.
10.01.2022 The best way to support small business apart from shopping with us is share our posts please
09.01.2022 Scam alert!!! If you receive a letter like this in the mail, it's a scam. The company - Registry Australia Pty Ltd - is asking for money for what appears to be ...the registering of your business name but, if you're already registered with the federal government through ASIC, your business name is already protected. Registry Australia is a private company, nothing to do with government, and the service they offer is essentially a scam, having no value whatsoever.

02.01.2022 There's a reason why we like our local Capel Bendigo Bank branch:.... ING and Bendigo Bank have highest banking customer satisfaction for home loan customers as COVID-19 strikes 30 June 2020 Original article by Roy Morgan... New financial data from Roy Morgan shows ING with the highest banking customer satisfaction among home loan customers (87.0%) in April, ahead of Bendigo Bank on 86.3%. The data is the first to measure home loan customer satisfaction for banks after COVID-19 hit Australia in mid-March. Since then banks have offered significant support to their home loan customers. These actions appear to be paying off, with the customer satisfaction ratings of home loan banking customers increasing for six out of the 11 banks measured compared to a year ago. CBA enjoys the highest home loan customer satisfaction of the big four banks, with a rating of 77.8%. Total home loan customer satisfaction with the big four banks is 75.1%. These latest banking satisfaction ratings have been obtained from the Roy Morgan Single Source survey, derived from in-depth interviews with over 50,000 Australians each year
01.01.2022 They've arrived!! Capel's new souvenir postcards are now for sale at the Capel Newsagency and Capel Post Office. The cards feature the winning photographs from our recent photo competition and they show some beautiful local scenes. Buy them as a gift to visitors; post them to friends or family; or just buy a couple to put on your mantelpiece to remind you what a great part of the world we live in.... Other retailers in Capel are most welcome to buy these postcards at wholesale prices for resale to the public. Please contact the Chamber if interested. Many thanks to the photographers whose photos are on the postcards and to Garry and Lyn at the newsagency and Magda at the post office for suggesting this as a Chamber project.
01.01.2022 Dear Capel Chamber of Commerce members, A Busselton-based business is not renewing its lease of the large shed it is currently using in the Busselton LIA and needs to find another shed by June 30 or it will close down. Is anyone aware of a large shed - 15 metres wide and 40 metres long or larger - available in the Capel LIA or in the Capel townsite or on a farming property close to town? If we could assist this business to come to Capel, it would create significant bene...fits for other small businesses in our area. As a thought, does anyone know if the old service station site on Capel Drive opposite the Shire offices is being used at present? If it's empty, any idea who the owner is so that I can contact them? Please let me know of any suggestions you might have. Stay well. Bernie
