Dylan Dehaas Films spotted this southern right mother and ...calf in the shallows off the coast of Dunsborough. 15.01.2022 When the largest animal on earth comes to visit (blue whale, they visit every spring) it'd be rude not to go and say g'day, right!? Dylan Dehaas Films was lu...cky enough to see twelve of these magnificent creatures over the weekend, and it looks like the people aboard Naturaliste Charters would have been bubbling with excitement too. Blue whales grow to around 29 metres and 170+ tonnes, making them the largest animal on the planet. They migrate through Geographe Bay each year as they travel between the Antarctic breeding and feeding ground and the warm 'maternity ward' waters of the Kimberley region. It's estimated that only a few hundred blue whales migrate along the West Australian coast each year, while around 35,000 humpback whales make the annual journey. Be sure to join a whale watching cruise before the season wraps up - there are charters departing Dunsborough and Busselton twice a day.
