25.01.2022 My latest short play takes place in a waiting room half way between here and heaven called the Overlander, where Jane an ambitious business lady comes face to face with Gordon her Great Grandfather and deceased aviator. In the Overlander Gordon's message to Jane is that having goals and ambitions is a positive trait providing its not at the expense of others safety. Will Jane become aware of the constant danger she places others in or will Gordon send her to meet the Master.

15.01.2022 Perhaps Love - Synopsis Who remembers 2012? The Strickland family certainly do. Ian, a FIFO worker in the Northwest of Western Australia, was working long hours away from home trying to get the mortgage re-paid as quickly as possible. His family didn’t quite see things the same way. His wife, Doris, has been feeling lonely for some time now and is resentful of Ian’s absence from the home. Their 16 year old daughter, Vivienne, is going through a rebellious stage causing hav...oc within the household, failing at school and also suffering from depression and anxiety. Their youngest daughter, Ruth, is always involved in her passion of dancing, requiring frequent transport and attention. Ian has become aware of the way that Doris feels and when the mine closes down for a couple of days, due to a cyclone alert, Ian rushes home to talk things through. He finds a strange car in the driveway and through his front window his wife in the arms of a younger man. Ian returns to work without his wife knowing that he had seen her and distances himself further from the family. The family then enters a state of complete disarray and dysfunction for several weeks with no communication between Doris, who believes Ian has left her, and Ian, who has lost trust in his wife. Ian is so disappointed that he can’t face his family until Doris’s younger sister, Cynthia, gently assists the family to come to an understanding and give the marriage another chance. Things slowly start to return to a new type of normal until Doris discovers that she has become pregnant, with her lover’s child. Vivienne takes her mother to task and gives her an unbelievably difficult time. Ian decides to gives up his lucrative FIFO job to come home and sort his family out, but the relationship between mother and daughter worsens as family secrets from the past surface in a dramatic fashion. For love to have any chance of surviving, the Strickland family will need to pay the price for their indiscretions of the past, and maybe for them that price is too high. See more

14.01.2022 Springbok Valley Cafe’ Sypnopsis: Errol, Annie and their two teenage daughters, Anna Marie and Dakota have recently arrived in Australia from South Africa. In their quest to start a new life they have established a South African Café which they have aptly named the ‘Springbok Valley Cafe’. The girls attend the local high school and have made friends with Susan, and then her older brother Liam. Each afternoon after school the children catch up at the café, where they feel com...fortable to talk freely and get spoiled by Annie. Each afternoon Richard and Miranda also drop into the café to dine; Annie becomes suspicious of Richard and Miranda as she has noticed that they spend a lot of time watching the children. Errol is struggling to adapt to a new culture and finally admits this to his family who encourage him to take risks and make new friends. Much to Annie’s horror Errol asks Richard to come fishing with him and Richard eagerly accepts. Errol also invites Liam, as he believes Liam is in need of some good male role modelling as Liam’s father had walked out on his family many years before. The events and happenings of that night were to change the course of everyone’s life in a dramatic fashion. See more

07.01.2022 Like all writers I am continually reviewing my plays and upgrading them, it would seem that they are always a work in progress. I have decided to upgrade one of... my favourite one act plays which was formally called Secrets of the summer tide. The new name is "Rhythm of the Rising Tide," which I think suits the situation and the circumstances better. During the play you can feel the Rhythm increase in intensity, you just can't turn or stop the tide once the Rhythm has started, all you can do is hold on and hope you survive. See more

06.01.2022 Hi all, I am directing my play "Springbok Valley Cafe" at my church in Bunbury next year as a fund raiser for YouthCARE state school Chaplains. I am on the lookout for a South African adult male who likes to act and sing (the singing is optional). If you know anyone who fits that brief and is supportive of christian values could you please put us in touch with him. Rehearsals will commence in late January and at this stage will take place on a Sunday afternoon and one night a week probably a Thursday to start of with. Best wishes Doug.

05.01.2022 Sypnopsis:It’s Christmas 2004, Trevor, Norman and Sidney are mates who all work for Drummond’s hardware and share their lunch break together each day. Like many workmates around our country they are part of a Lotto syndicate, each taking their turn to put the numbers on in a monthly rotational basis. Tasmyn, an office worker, who gets on well with the boys is also part of their syndicate. They share the results each week by verbal acknowledgment and trust. One weekend, during Trevor’s month, they are lucky enough to win division One. Trevor makes a decision to keep the win for himself; Tasmyn catches him out and is coerced into keeping the money from the other two. They use the Christmas break to run away overseas but things don’t go exactly to plan and the tide turns in a dramatic fashion.

02.01.2022 Great to meet the cast at the world premiere of "Springbok valley cafe". Thank you for bringing my play to life
