24.01.2022 Cape York Employment has subcontracted Dreamtime Solutions to deliver a Horticulture and Healthy Lifestyle Workshop in the remote community of Aurukun. In under two weeks, Dreamtime Solutions has been able to lift the engagement of the female activity by having the ladies engaged in creating their own sustainable community garden. Not only is Dreamtime Solutions working on increasing the community’s engagement, but they are also building and strengthening their rapport with... stakeholders in the community. Renee Schoder, the Director of Dreamtime Solutions has visited the community and been hands-on planting out the community gardens with the ladies in Aurukun. The ladies engaged in the program have shown appreciation to Renee in attendance, and have stated that they are keen to have a community garden in which they can cook healthy meals from. https://www.facebook.com/Dreamtime-Solutions-711808952363579

24.01.2022 Great opportunity! Senior Engagement Officers wanted!

24.01.2022 The weather has started to clear and the Aurukun Market Garden is flourishing. Local community participants were active last week cleaning up this resource, ensuring all trees are pruned, and the compound remains clean and presentable for all visitors. The small-scale garden offers room to experiment with crops while allowing less labour. The harvest is easily managed by the participants and all the nutritional value of this garden compliments our female cooking activity ...in the community. The Market Garden activity is relaxing and stress relieving, and caring for the garden gives the entire community a chance to socialise and work together. It also hones the job seeker's skills and provides a form of exercise for those in attendance.

23.01.2022 Great opportunity to join our team! For further information or to apply, visit: bit.ly/3q1StBz

21.01.2022 The community of Aurukun has welcomed back full servicing! Stakeholders are pleased to see the relationships between CDP and themselves further strengthened through community engagement. Higher levels of attendance at school and workplace has had a significance increase since the community is back into the swing of 'normality'. Here are some pictures highlighting the success that Cape York Employment has had working collaboratively with the Koolkan Day Care Centre and Transition 2 Success. The project involved participants are working on is to refurbish old furniture from the daycare.

Stakeholders again united to support the Aurukun State School with a BBQ for the children and parents of the community. Children were given the opportunity to walk safely with their parents and carers, they learnt some significant road awareness initiatives along the way. 17.01.2022 The ongoing relationship between the Aurukun Shire Council and Cape York Employment is strengthening each day with more pathways to employment for community members than ever before. A prime example of this is 18-year-old Kayoka George from Aurukun. Kayoka completed Year 11 and has been eagerly awaiting training opportunities within Aurukun to upskill herself into full-time employment. She approached both the Aurukun Shire Council and Cape York Employment when the Indigeno...us VET funding became available for the Food Handling Course at the Chivaree Aged Care Centre. Kayoka expressed an interest in being trained in the safest way to handle, prepare and serve food. Cape York Employment assisted Kayoka in obtaining the ID required to acquire a Unique Student Identifier, as well as the correct personal protective equipment essential to complete the training. Kayoka benefited from funding available through the Aurukun Shire Council and undertook a three-day course with an accredited trainer to complete this certificate. Congratulations, Kayoka!

17.01.2022 We've kicked off 2021 with severe weather warnings and torrential rain throughout the Cape. Once we finally had a break in the weather, our supervisor led the way at 7am this morning, mowing the grass around the Aurukun Training Centre. The community may be waterlogged but activities are in full swing and compliances are being lodged. We have also seen a large group assist with community clean-ups. We've started 2021 motivated and ready for action.

01.01.2022 Our reason behind the work that we do is in this fine example of Kenneth Pootchemunka. He has been actively attending his activity in Aurukun, being one of the first people on-site and working back to complete his project for his daughter. The use of power and hand tools to complete this chair has given Kenneth the confidence to approach one of our local contractors for employment. Kenneth was very proud when he informed CYE of his employment opportunity, and felt like an even prouder dad when he saw his daughter's face after he gifted her the chair he made especially for her.
