21.01.2022 The Coral Coast Riders need some additional Bikers for this year’s Ironman. Van has asked if some of our Hog members would be interested in volunteering our bikes & pillion-carrying capabilities for the Cairns Ironman on Sun 27th Sept? They already have 25 riders signed up so they need 10 more riders. Riders can sign up using the "Sign Up" button on the Coral Coast Riders' Facebook page or via the following link:... https://coralcoastriders.wufoo.com/forms/z1h8hy705ttgza/ If anyone is interested to find out more Coral Coast is hosting a rider's brief session - 1pm on Sat 12th Sept at Fogarty Park Soundshell on the Cairns Esplanade. Riders are 'paid' with a $130 donation to one of 5 charities listed on the registration link. The fuel usage and lunch is also supplied. * Riders MUST be able to carry a pillion. We cannot use non-pillion riders. Coral Coast has always come to our aid when we needed bikes so let’s see if we can assist them.

This is a fun event and raises money for a worthy charity The 2020 Cairns Airport Adventure Festival is just a few short weeks away and we need your help to ensure the success of this event. We still have positions available in our moto support volunteer team which we need to fill. This year's festival culminates in the running of the Cairns Ironman and 70.3 races on Sunday 27th September 2020. ... Whilst COVID19 has meant the introduction of some new ways of doing things, Ironman Asia Pacific have been working closely with the Queensland Government and the local stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for the delivery of this year's event. In the past, volunteer motorcyclists such as yourself have played a pivotal role in providing motorcycle support services to this event. Without your assistance, this world-class event would not be possible. Last year the fantastic Cairns motorcycling community, volunteered their time & motorcycles to provide much-needed support services for this event. Thanks in no small part to their efforts, the 2018 Cairns Ironman was voted "The best in the world" by the competitors and dubbed the "Race in Paradise". At this stage, we still have many positions available for interested volunteer riders to be a part of one of the largest events on the national triathlon calendar! The main event we provide support for is: Ironman Cairns / Ironman 70.3 Cairns - Cairns / Port Douglas (Sunday 27th September 2020). For each volunteer motorcycle, $125 is donated in your name to the charity of your choice. This year’s charities are: The Afghanistan Avenue of Honour Couch Cairns; Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS); Young Animal Protection Society (YAPS); Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA). Volunteering for this event is a hugely satisfying day. Talk to anyone that volunteered last year and they will tell you how rewarding the experience is. You are provided with free food and refreshments at Rex’s Lookout as well as having the cost of your fuel covered. 07.01.2022 HOLE-Y DOOLEY! A SINKHOLE ON THE GILLIES RANGE ROAD Investigations are continuing into what caused a sinkhole to emerge in the middle of the Gillies Range R...oad, south of Cairns. The highway was closed yesterday afternoon, to allow highway engineers to travel to the site. It has since re-opened, but is down to one lane of traffic. Motorist Janine Rielly says she was one of the first people to come across the one-metre hole in the road, about half-way down the range. "We had to veer onto the other side of the road because we had really no choice, and there was a huge sink hole, yeah it was quite a decent size... it's just lucky there were no accidents."
