21.01.2022 It's been a little quiet on this page, since the person who has usually been looking after most things on this page - has been away on a bit of an adventure She returned home with lots of photos and information, including that on roadworks around. We will have a little series of places that are / have been getting the works done lately - and let's start with the Weipa end, since that is after all where the northern end of the PDR is (yes, that's right, the PDR is NOT the road to the Tip, but the road to Weipa!). :-)

16.01.2022 In the southern end of the PDR, there have also been some extensive roadworks north of Laura. After a good few detours during the last couple of months, newly fitted pipes and more bitumen - most of these works are now finished and - from the southern end - the PDR is now pretty much sealed until Fairview :-)

13.01.2022 Another place that's seen road works for quite a while is the McLeod River bridge - a welcome improvement as it used to be a low one lane bridge that got flooded during the Wet Seasons. Not sure if they are managing to get it finished before this Wet starts flooding it?

We are currently looking for mechanics to start as soon as possible! Essential skills and knowledge: * Diagnose and repair faults in parts and engines * Remove and dismantle engine assemblies, steering mechanism, transmissions etc * Test, adjust, repair and install parts * Perform scheduled maintenance services * Undertake tyre fitting * Work in a small team Must have: * Current drivers license * Can-do attitude and motivation * Good work ethics and customer service orientation Desirable qualifications: * Truck license Work mainly in the mechanical workshop but since we are also a towing business there will be occasions to join the trip down to the Old Telegraph Track to recover vehicles. Since we also own the TI Motors there might be occasional working trips to Thursday Island (which is the administrative centre and the most populated of all of the islands of Torres Strait). Working hours Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm, Saturdays 8am - 12pm. Leaving you the most of the weekend to enjoy the Northern Peninsula Area, go four wheel driving, fishing, pig hunting - it's a great place for outdoor activities and there is even enough time for overnight camping trips ;-) The salary package includes free accommodation and power, and the road is now open to drive up (you can fly but you need your own vehicle to enjoy getting around on your free time). 02.01.2022 Getting back to those road works 'series' that we started before Christmas :-) There have also been some quite extensive works on the road to Iron Range. That road really needed some of the improvements that it's been getting - it will sure help during the coming Wet! :-)
