25.01.2022 Australia gained another 90,000 jobs in November with the country’s unemployment rate falling to 6.8%. Victoria, unsurprisingly, was the biggest contributor as the state continues to gain momentum since easing its lockdown measures. Pleased with the results, Josh Frydenberg this morning tipped unemployment to return to pre-COVID levels (approximately 5%) within four years. A faster recovery compared to our previous two recessions.

03.01.2022 Inflation update: Data released this morning confirmed CPI has increased a subdued 0.7% year on year. Childcare was the main contributor to the previous quarter following the end of the Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package on the 12th July. Although the quarterly increase in prices (1.6%) is a step in the right direction towards the RBA’s targeted 2-3% range, it may not be enough to avoid another rate cut on Melbourne Cup day.
