25.01.2022 Hop, hop, hop, carreau! The roos trying out their pétanque skills on our newly resurfaced piste. Summer is coming, and it’s good to have the trees to sit under between games.

25.01.2022 Now, does Pétanque have an equivalent? Keep that training going!

23.01.2022 May the forth ( ) be with our club real soon!

22.01.2022 Pop up Pétanque. This is a brand new feature for Capital Pétanque Club, introduced by the Smith family. It had its inaugural run today, on one of Canberra’s really scorching summer days. As the thermometer hovered just below 40 degrees, some intrepid players ventured to the far north of Canberra, to try different terrains, and different scenery. There wasn’t a crowd, but the photographed players are all smiling. That says it all. Well done Smitty’s, well done to the heat proof members of our club! .

22.01.2022 We just got this zoomed in image from Dr Brad Tucker, ANU. It’s a buzz to see CPC in such clear lettering. The satellite was 770 kilometres above us! Dr Brad Tucker, you’re welcome to come and play pétanque with our club. You know where to find us! #drbradtucker... #capitalpetanque #satelliteselfie Catherine Alexander If you want to download and use that image, you can go here: http://www.mso.anu.edu.au//ACT/Pu/CapitalPetanqueClub.jpeg

20.01.2022 Our new piste is ready to rock! Kerry threw the very first boule, and set the standard for fine pointing on our new gravel. This is a little bit of club history, and a bit of cheer for a Friday.

17.01.2022 Capital Pétanque went extreme this afternoon. The weather did the same! About 20 hardy members took the challenge, and played on the ingenious and tricky and course set, yet again, by the intrepid Cooper Foursome. We had huge fun and huge challenges in the mud, sand, gravel, log piles slippery slopes, wood mulch mountains, and forest areas. The winning pair were Annette and Gary, with an enormous score. Congratulations to both of you. The happy recipients of th...e ‘wooden spoon’ awards were a tied pair of teams. Mark and Heike, and Rob and Margaret. Big thanks to everyone who turned up with winter day cheer! The mulled wine, beers, the cakes and the shared chocolates were all so welcome. Everyone cheered up a lot! Lastly, huge thanks to Robyn, Lois, Mark and Richard. Another one done, another big success. See more

16.01.2022 Here are the results from Wollongong Pétanque Club Masters Australia Day Competition. Well done to all the competitors from the many other clubs we met on the piste! Congratulations to our mighty team from Canberra.

15.01.2022 The Capital Pétanque Club July Newsletter is now available. It’s great read. http://capitalpetanque.org.au/boulesheet.shtml

15.01.2022 A surprise when watching the news tonight. Crazy Pétanque players out in the record heat. At 9mins 28 secs into the bulletin, is your moment of glory. Kerry. ... https://iview.abc.net.au//abc/series/0/video/NU1904C303S00

14.01.2022 Gary raked the piste, and the roos came out to play. They seem to debate about who has the winning point as much as humans do! We left them to figure it out!

14.01.2022 CPC Hot Shot...Smitty. Great precision shooting and pretty darned good videoing! If we could bottle it and sell the skill we’d be on a gold mine. Adele Smith

13.01.2022 Our intrepid, sporty, great looking, CPC players were snapped on the piste by the Canberra Times last Tuesday. Our club is one of the most regular users of Weston Park in Yarralumla. Canberra Times article. Canberra Times photographs.

13.01.2022 Extreme Pétanque Rocks. It’s all happening at Capital Pétanque. We are all keen to see what the combined Cooper families have devised for the extreme pétanque course this Sunday. It’s always been brilliant before, and this one is sure to be a winner too. Margaret Robyn Cooper... Lois Cooper After that we have a new event for our club. The Solstice Singles, hosted by the Smith Family. There are still the places available for club members to book, so grab your chance for singles stardom! Adele Smith

12.01.2022 CPC SOLSTICE SINGLES. Here is a great opportunity to celebrate the mid winter solstice, and responsible socialising. The collective ‘Smitty’s’ have devised a fun day, and as our club has never had an emphasis on singles play, here is your chance to shine all by yourself! Numbers are growing, but there is plenty of room for more talent. Sign up with the Smitty’s, ( flyer has details) and prepare for fun on the piste. Let’s make this one a big success.

12.01.2022 Take two...Satellite Selfie. Tuesday 25 August. A keen little team set up the ground again for the last chance to be in the visual time capsule of Canberra today. It was a remarkably clear and sunny morning, so the satellite should have seen our smiles. We will let you know when we get our ‘snapshot’ from space. We also have an audio clip from our piece on local radio about the selfie for science week. When we know how, well add it here!

11.01.2022 Winter greetings. The Capital Pétanque Club August Boulesheet is now available. It’s another cracker! Enjoy! http://capitalpetanque.org.au/bouleshe/Boulesheet%20127.pdf

11.01.2022 Capital Pétanque has battled the bush fire smoke problem, along with the terribly affected people in our surrounding area. We can’t imagine how hard it is for people on the front line. These are mid afternoon photos, no late evening light here. Thank goodness for firefighters. Thank goodness for hardy Pétanque players!

09.01.2022 Capital Pétanque Club had an impressive team at the Wollongong Pétanque Club Annual Doubles Competition over the long weekend. I didn’t count, but I’m pretty sure we had the biggest contingent of players from any one club. The women’s teams did very well. Robyn and Helena went right to the pointy end of the Principale Division for the ladies comp. Our Club has never had women progress so far, so this was a big step for them. They played precise, considered and careful games,... and were just pipped at the post in a play off for 3rd and 4th place. Congratulations Robyn and Helena. Heike and Jean also played extremely well and came second in the consolante division. Lena and Catherine played themselves into third in the Consolante division, and are also very happy with that. The men’s divisions are tougher competition, as there are many more teams, and many more ‘hot shot’ young guns shooting for the good cash prizes. Our men did well in this highly competitive field. Two mens teams played to a standard that put them in the Principale Division, and the others were well up in the Consolante division. I think they all thought they played well over the weekend, and represented the club well in a very tough and international field. The tables ( which show placings after day one of comp), at the bottom of the photo section show how big the men’s section was. Photos by Christine C.

08.01.2022 Solstice Singles Inaugural Competition, hosted by our amazing Smith Family, has a winner. Rob Ferguson is CPC Singles champ for 2020. Big congratulations to Rob. ... What a difference a week makes. Last week, at a different but equally enthralling event, there was hail, rain, mud, mixed up with freezing temperatures. That was extreme! Today we had a magic day of the balmiest weather possible mid winter in Canberra. Coats and jackets got discarded as players warmed up on the piste. 24 players pitted their singles skills, and slowly the the best players on the day, rose to the top of the schedule. Everyone had a terrific time, playing and socialising ( responsibly at distance!), and trying to win a game from their mates! The picnic format always brings a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. We sure had a spread of delicious goodies to keep our energy levels up! At the end of the day, there was one trophy. It was won by Rob, in a breathtakingly good final. He played Mark Cooper, who also gave us plenty of brilliant pointing and shooting shots. Everyone stayed to the very end to watch and cheer. Our club has amazing camaraderie, and admiration for a match well contested. Rick won the Consolante, and was the recipient of a prize for that great effort too. Big congratulation to Rick. A huge thank you goes out to Smitty, Adele Smith, Rhys and Callum. It was a well thought out, well run and hugely successful day. I hope CPC has many more.

07.01.2022 Maybe a training method for capital Pétanque Club. Maybe good for Smitty’s shooting Comp!

07.01.2022 Satellite Selfie! Image taken on flyover of Tuesday 25 August. This was a science week initiative to capture a moment in Canberra’s history. The satellite did 3 photographic passes, and this is the best image captured. The We decided to try our luck at painting our logo and initials on the Pétanque piste at Yarralumla. We had a team of cheerful players turn up for the task, and then we had a game. You can see tiny figures if you look! ... The CPC really shows up well. There we are, captured in a time capsule of Canberra. https://www.abc.net.au//satellite-selfies-put-can/12566682

06.01.2022 The value of social awareness is very important. Take a look at this link. See you back on the piste when times are less viral! Catherine. https://thespinoff.co.nz//Covid-19-Transmission-graphic-01

06.01.2022 Canberra is parched dry. There is limited watering near the picnic areas, the remainder of the park is as dry as a bone. The smoke from the fires was so thick this evening. Dangerous in fact. Let’s hope for rain for Christmas.

06.01.2022 This is what our deserted piste looks like this afternoon. Our air is hazardous, due to bushfire smoke, and Sunday play is not happening. A first for our club! Intrepid Ivo took some photos this afternoon for the records. Thanks Ivo. Photos by Ivo.

06.01.2022 The 8th Annual Alexander’s Mixed Doubles Comp is done for 2020. We had a wonderful day, and a new set of winners. Congratulations to all players. We had a great roll up, and with lots of cooperation, everything ran smoothly and on on time. The finals in both sections were great games to watch, with many points bringing applause from the crowd. Our winners are Adele and Graham. ... Big congratulations. The runners up are Heike and Hanan. Big Congratulations again. The Consolante section was also very well contested, and the winners are Robyn and Mark. Big congratulations to you both. The runners up are Jennifer and Rick. Congratulations.

03.01.2022 Capital Pétanque is looking to grow our club! We’re planting the next coche crop, and hope that it’s a terrific one. ‘From little things, big things grow’.

03.01.2022 Wow. It was a big day for Capital Pétanque Canberra. We have resurfaced half of our piste, and now have two different areas, each with distinctive character. After a good soaking on the next rainy day we have, it will pack down, stabilise nicely, and provide heaps of thoughtful playing opportunities. Jim has spent many hours tracking down and dealing with landscape contractors. With guidance from the committee, Jim, and also Rob, have delivered on the membership wishes from ...the survey undertaken last year. We had the expert and friendly services of Brendan, from ‘Trendy Landscaping’, and the willing services of many handy members. The weather was brilliant, and the camaraderie obvious. Lena did a much appreciated icecream run, and provided cool treats for folks with tools in hand. After Brendan left, Kerry threw the first boule, and then we all got into the business of playing one quick game to try out our new surface. We all smiled a lot. It passed. #trendylandscaping #petanque #capitalpetanque See more
