25.01.2022 Queensland States 2020 - Bench Only All Time Australian Raw Bench Record set by Andrew Cooper - 290kg

24.01.2022 CAPO STATES 2020 SA 75kg Females The RUSH or The VOID What State of Awareness do you achieve when pushed to the limit?... Many lifters know about these two phenomena that can happen in Comps. The Rush comes with the roar of the crowd, the slap on the back, the flush of the ammonia. The Nitrous button gets pushed and you know you are going to make the lift no matter what has been loaded on the bar. It is involuntary. It doesn’t always happen. I imagine the super stars are the ones who can turn on this inner force at will and us lesser mortals only get to feel it occasionally when the right stressors are in place. You become unstoppable in achieving what needs to be done, like you have been given extra strength. The Void is almost the opposite. The crowd is somehow blocked out. You are aware of sound but you are remote from it. You may hear a single voice, distinct from all the others. A child, a partner, your coach. You are within yourself and everything outside your immediate space is in a kind of fuzzy light or shadowy darkness. It may not happen until you get under the bar or it may start as soon as the Head Ref calls, ‘Bar Loaded!’ You might not even remember parts or all of the lift. You do what you have programmed yourself to do over thousands of repetitions in training. It just happens subconsciously. Once you achieve either of these states of being, you will be hooked on the feeling. It will make you push your limits because it doesn’t happen in your comfort zone. It is only when we have to dig the deepest that we create the perfect combination of stress and elation to experience it. It would be great to see these 4 girls pushing each other into this zone at States. Unfortunately, Jo, the #1 CAPO 75kg Girl in SA is taking a break from comps currently. That leaves the top spot on the podium wide open for a very close battle. Jo Robbertsen S-135, B-70, D-155, T-360 Rank #214 Gabrielle Murphy S-120, B-60, D-147.5, T-327.5 Rank #367 Samantha Connor S-107.5, B-60, D-145, T-312.5 Rank #467 Mel Kaye S-102.5,B-62.5, D-120, T-285 Rank #625 The Ranking is All Time, All Feds in Australia for the Weight Class. It is out of 983 Lifters and a few kilo moves you up the ladder very quickly.

21.01.2022 Hall Of Fame World Powerlifting Congress Yesterday as MC of the CAPO National Deadlift Competition - South Australian Event - I had the privilege of announcing ...this prestigious recognition of Yuris Sterns and Andrea Sterns for their achievements and many years of contributing to the sport of Powerlifting! (I did not present the award as that is done at the World Championships by the WPC President and Covid prevented that this year.) Both are World Champions. Both are World Referees. Andrea is the President of CAPO Powerlifting Australia. Yuris is one of the 3 Founding Fathers of the sport of Powerlifting in Australia. He was the Head Coach of the Australian Powerlifting Team and personally coached many champions and World Record breakers. Yuris is the person who had the lifting order of competitions changed world wide so that Bench came between Squats and Deadlifts. What a massive influence on our sport! I know they both feel very honoured by this acknowledgment as do all those who know them and benefit from what they have done for us! Congratulations Yuris & Andrea! Footnote: I have tagged current CAPO Officials and the 9 CAPO Hall of Fame Inductees: Mason Jardine Laurie Butler Taylor Young Adam Coe Charlie Coleiro Dino Toci Ange Galati Yuris Sterns Barry Murray

19.01.2022 CAPO STATES 2020 WA vs SA 110kg Men When the announcement was made on the last Iron Addiction Podcast that The Phenom - Connor Walsh - was returning to the platform, the 110 Class became a freight train of WA Lifters!... Ranked #16 All Time in the Australian 110s, if he repeats his form he could be devastating to Kyle Love’s claim that the crown is now his! With only 10kg separating Francis Cowan from Kyle it could be a real battle for 2nd but as it is written in The Bible, the greatest of all is Love! Is there a chance that Joel McCaughan will throw his hat in the ring this year? He has not competed locally for some time.

16.01.2022 Lets start getting those entries in... Entry Fee: $75 Entry & Declaration Forms: https://bit.ly/2vbwnVy (Must be submitted by Friday 20th March 2020)

15.01.2022 CAPO STATES 2020 SA vs WA the 82.5kg Females South Australia dominates this very popular class with Masters World Champion Janet Smith leading the charge with a solid Bench and massive Deadlift! Janet gives the Open girls someone to chase.... Ligaya Wood is another popular SA Lifter that brings the crowd to their feet every time she hits the platform. If you want to see a spectacular Deadlift it is hard to beat Jess McCallum from the Eyre Peninsula because as one of the tallest female Powerlifters that 180kg barbell just keeps rising with to around three times the bar travel of many lifters! Catherine Henderson has a big lead in WA on paper but the close battle between Kayah and Zo could see any one of them taking top spot on the podium. The All Time All Feds Australian Rankings for the Weight Class are shown on the table of results and a few extra kilos on the Total can improve the ranking significantly.

15.01.2022 CAPO STATE REP - TASMANIA Craig McCallum has stepped up to be the new representative for CAPO in Tasmania! This will give Tassie lifters a local contact point when they are looking to enter CAPO Comps on the mainland of Australia with the view to making it to the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) World Championships - if the lifter qualifies at CAPO Nationals.... Getting to compete in different exotic locations around the world, such as Finland last year, is a Bucket List item for many lifters and CAPO provides a very well laid out path to get there through our lifelong connections with the WPC. To compete at Worlds you must enter as part of the National Team - there are no individual entries. This is all coordinated for you by CAPO President - Andrea Sterns - who is very experienced in the process being the International Coordinator, World Referee and World Champion herself! She knows exactly what is needed for a successful campaign when representing Australia in the beloved green and gold! For those not wanting to travel the world, CAPO offers numerous national level competitions with World Sanctioning that means they are eligible for World Records. On the subject of records, CAPO has the oldest standing records of all Australian Powerlifting Feds with one dating back to 1989 that has not been broken in over 30 years! These records are set under the watchful eyes of the expert CAPO Referees, some of whom are regularly invited to adjudicate competitions around the world. It is well known that records set at CAPO Comps are made with lifts of unquestionable quality. A little about the new State Rep. Craig is an M2 Lifter (Masters 45-49) who has competed in 3 weight classes 110-125-140 with his 660kg Total made up of S-262.5 B-155, D-250 giving him a couple of #1 finishes in his first 4 comps. Powerlifting is his family sport and his partner Jess has a couple more years of competition under her belt having started in 2016 to accrue 13 comps including Proraw X and XI. Her elite lifting includes S-235, B122.5, D250.5 and the outstanding 600 Total putting her among only 9 Australian women to have achieved this significant number! In fact, only 54 women in the world have ever done this feat and Jess is currently ranked #27 for Deadlift All Time and #4 in Australia. Jess’s son, Ryan Williams (Ryan Williams #5 OpenPowerlifting) also has four comps under his belt in the 16-17yo Teen Division. At his most recent he smashed through the 500kg barrier with S-220, B-90, D-210, T520! It won’t be long before he is pushing for top spot in the family. That will certainly light up their training sessions. Welcome aboard Craig! We look forward to seeing Tasmanian lifters making the trip over to compete on our platforms.

02.01.2022 The CAPO Hall of Fame. When you ask, who are the legends of Australian Powerlifting? This is where you find them.

02.01.2022 CAPO STATES 2020 WA 75kg Females What a close group these 3 are based on previous results!... Erica Mcknight S-70, B-65, D147.5, T-282.5 Rank #635 Zo Kruger S-105, B-50, D-125, T-280 Rank #647 Natina Grace S-100, B-60, D-120, T-280 Rank #653 Erica is an M3 Master mixing it with these two Open Lifters. She gives them a head start with Squats but will finish strongly with that big Dead! Look at the height this statuesque athlete hoists that bar to! One of the most impressive sights in a Powerlifting Comp is when a tall lifter pulls a big conventional Deadlift. Most Powerlifters know Zo Kruger as a Ref for the most prestigious comps like Big Dogs and Proraw and a lot of us have been fortunate to have her judge our lifts at major CAPO and GPC events. This time she will be out of the chair, lifting herself and she has been training hard for it so her current official numbers could be in for a big shakeup! Natina is trained by one of our top 82.5kg Lifters - Ahmed Hulameh. This will be her 6th sanctioned comp and like the other two girls, that 300kg Total is calling her and it would move any of these girls ranks up well over 100 places. 307.5kg gets them a ticket into the Top 500 All Time 75kg Females in Australia. A little bird has just told me that Zo has moved up to the 82.5s and taken her Total up to 340kg which makes her Rank #230 in that class!
