06.01.2022 Independence Day is the National Day of Papua New Guinea and commemorates independence from Australia which took place on September 16th,1975. To mark the 45 years of independence, student residents from PNG living at Capricornia College performed traditional dancing and shared photos and stories about life in Papua New Guinea with their fellow college residents. Long term Cap College resident Sophie Hepota (PNG) Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety spoke passionately... about her beloved PNG and their Independence "Our country is made of many tribes and culture (8000+ tribes and 850+ languages ) and was united in 1975 as one nation and one country and so the independence is very significant and close to our hearts in the spirit of "UNITY in Diversity" and wants all PNG to remind themselves that no matter where they are, what challenges they go through they are united.
