22.01.2022 The traditions of Scouting in the Capricorn District were upheld this weekend with the running of the 95 year old Rudd Cup Scout competition camp. Skills, teamwork, leadership and community spirit were measured in a very tight competition this year at Seeonee Park Scout Campsite. Scout Patrols were scored on pioneering skills, campfire cooking, camp layout with particular attention to hygiene a focus this year. Team work and leadership skills were tested and realised with gr...eat achievements by all patrols. Amidst the challenges of 2020 we were blessed to get back to some traditional scouting (with some modifications for Scouts Queensland Covid-19 safety regulations. Three of the four Scout Groups from our district participated in four patrols in this year’s competition. Gracemere Scouts were not represented unfortunately. Mount Archer Scout Group had two patrols entered, with a great number of new members they did very well with the Tasmanian Tigers Patrol earning 259 points; and Eagles Patrol gaining 274 points (only one point difference with the runners-up). Eagles Patrol was also able to win the inaugural camp fire Skits and Giggles trophy, with some really great entertainment on the last night of camp from all the Patrols. Runners up for The Rudd Cup this year was Warripari Scout Group’s Patrol with 275 points and the winners, maintaining their winning streak from 2019 was Yeppoon Scouts with a clear lead on 294 points. CONGRATULATIONS and BRAVO to the winners! All Scout units had a significant number of new members experiencing this competition for the first time and the empowerment of our youth to realise their strengths and to work through weaknesses together is an amazing and satisfying thing for our Scout Leaders and parents to witness. Our Leaders do great work with the Scouts and are trained to empower youth leading youth with adults supporting in the age group for the Scout Units (11 to 15 years). With so many new members this year in all four groups of our district this year were are opening training of new leaders and adult helpers in all age group sections (5 to 25 years). If you are looking for a satisfying volunteer role in the community, where you can receive national recognised training provided by Scouts Australia, and make a difference in the lives of our youth, please reach out to us or directly to the scout group in your area.

20.01.2022 Thanks myPolice Rockhampton for visiting Gracemere Scouts tonight. Officers from Gracemere Station had Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers engaged in stories of the types of jobs they get called out to and were fascinated with the equipment and were amused by the handcuffs and wanted to know EVERYTHING about the taser!

15.01.2022 Well done Mount Archer Scout Group ! Fantastic community involvement

13.01.2022 Happy National Tree Day! Normally we would be holding tree planting events around the Region to celebrate, but this year that hasn't been possible. Councill...ors still marked the day, however, with a symbolic tree planting at Kershaw Gardens on Friday. We hope there's lots of people taking part in their own backyards today with the plants they picked up as part of Council's giveaway last week. If you are, comment below with your own planting photos!

12.01.2022 We hope all our dads in the Scouting community had a great day today. A special warm wish for a happy Father’s Day to our volunteer leaders, who are dads and still find time to invest with all our youth sections (and mentoring adults) to make Scouting great in Capricorn. 11.01.2022 JOTA 2020 was a great day, although hot and dusty. The Scout Cooks did a fantastic job with the catering and the icypoles went down well as cooling agents. I t...hink all the Joeys, Cubs and Scouts that took part in JOTA enjoyed the experience. it was a very new experience for some of them. On the Morse Code after a little practice, we got them to send their first name via morse and we told them what their name was. I didn't get in to see the JOTI in action, but looking at the setup I'm sure it would have been an enjoyable time too. Several Scout groups in Victoria and NSW were worked by many of our group on the 2meter 146.7 repeater and IRLP link, Internet Radio Linking Project. http://www.ham.org.au/vk3hjq/irlp.html This uses the Seeonee Station to the VK4RAR Repeater, then into the Internet and out in Victoria and into the radio system of the receiving station. The other Radio link being used was called Echo Link and in this case it is purely voice over the Internet. http://www.echolink.org/ Of course you need to have a Radio Amateur licence to register for the service. All the Very Best Cheers Nick Quigley OAM - VK4CNQ

11.01.2022 TICK CHECK! It’s that time of the year and we need to remember and remind each other to check for ticks when we’ve been out and about in the great outdoors including at Seeonee Park. For more info on parasitic bush ticks see the Australian Government Health Direct page:... https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/tick-bites

11.01.2022 The idea of "Scout Scarf Day" on August 1 is that all active and former scouts are requested to wear their scout scarfs in public to make the "Spirit of Scouting" visible: Once a Scout - Always a Scout! The date of the event commemorates the very first Scout Camp on Brownsea Island in 1907. Of course, the scarf is only a symbol but a strong symbol for the scout promise and for our mission to leave the world as a bit better a place than we had found it.... 07.01.2022 Seeonee Park Scout Campsite has some new signs going up around the park! We’d like to take this opportunity to remind the community that Seeonee Park is a private camp ground and event venue, with hire and lease options available for interested clubs and individuals. Access is by permission only. Thank you to K & T Daley - signs stickers & stuff for helping us out with the signs.

07.01.2022 Members of the Scouts Queensland's Kayaking Team featured in Spector News Magazine, a local publication on the Capricorn Coast. During our Scouts Queensland Chief Commissioner’s travels he spotted a recent article in the Spector News Magazine, a local publication at the Capricorn Coast, members of Scouts Queensland's Kayaking team featured in an inspiring article about their kayak journeys in the Region while running the annual Scouts Queensland Sea Kayaking School hosted by Yeppoon Scouts. To find out more about what Branch Adviser Ian "Hooksie" Cole and Venturer Scout Leader Syd "Sydie" Mainland had to say see the article here.

05.01.2022 2020 is almost over and I think we might almost make it through without feeling like this! ... and Scouts, keep asking those questions. In reality, your Leaders live for them!

03.01.2022 How to follow protocol when bushwalking on Country.

01.01.2022 from the Chief Commissioner's Newsletter last week featuring Mount Archer Scout Group Scouting@Home Testimonials "Hi my name is Lachlan and I’m a Cub Scout at Mt Archer Scout Group. I was sad when COVID-19 stopped the Cub Scout community but lucky we had Zoom with the Cub Scouts to keep me motivated. I did my cooking badge, space badge, gardening badge and information technology badge. With my space badge I made a pinhole planetarium. You shine a light in it and it makes an ...image of the southern cross on the wall when you are in a dark room. Also I enjoyed when [our Leader] Dingo would get us to play Kahoot. It was so much fun. Dingo asked for us all to do a good turn. So I bought all my neighbours rubbish bins in every week while I was in lockdown. We also celebrated ANZAC Day on our driveway. I helped my sister make up and hand out flyers to all our neighbours in our area. I would like to thank my Leaders for making Cubs Scouts fun while we were in lockdown." 01.01.2022 The Scouts movement was founded by Lord Robert Baden-Powell with the 1st of August 1907 acknowledged as the founding date. The Rockhampton District had several ...scouting troops, and every year at Easter each troop competed against each other for the Rudd Cup. The troops were judged on attendance, camp layout, troop programmes, menus, cooking, hygiene, weather precautions and camp fire items. The 7th Rockhampton Scouts won the Rudd Cup in 1947 and for three years in row in 1952, 1953, and 1954. #FlashbackFriday See more
