20.01.2022 Last Saturday... Helga the Kombi took a bunch of Sydney mums on a Blue Mountains food and wine tour. Specialty coffee ... bubbly and oysters ... scenic stops ... scrumptious lunch ... wine-tastings, all on a gorgeous spring day. The Captain is making this a regular tour! 13.01.2022 With Trusty the Kombis Beautification Program ongoing, my aim is to have him looking this awesome. Go Faster stripes are definitely being considered. The pictured Kombi is now in the UK (hi to Retro Campers Norfolk), but it was originally from Australia and was the delightful shade bronco brown ... just like Trusty! (Fun Kombi fact - because there were so many right-hand drive Kombis made and sold in Australia, and they keep well in our dry climate, Australia now exports BOATLOADS of Kombis to the UK! Part of me thinks its nice that we are helping the Brits out, but another part of me thinks hands orf ... theyre ours!)

09.01.2022 Trusty External Beautification Program: Phase 1 - replacement of Trustys poptop canvas, lining and awning. Trusty the Kombis poptop is a 1976 fibreglass and vinyl thing made by Trakka, Sydney. The fibreglass is still great, but the vinyl fabric surround and the ceiling lining are 41 years old and frankly looking a bit shit. They have served us well, but sadly theyre gotta go. The first step is to remove Trustys lid! The weather has been so nice lately I pause momentaril...y to consider keeping Trusty as some kind of open-top convertible ... But onward! I take the old vinyl to Mark at Affordable Canvas to use as a template for a new canvas surround. Yay for Mark. (Mark also made me a new awning, as the current green number was selected by someone who was clearly colour blind. This new awning I shall unveil at a later date - but I guarantee it will make everyone go aaahh.) Photos show progress so far (warning: naff music alert) - replacement of ceiling lining and attaching all the polished gizmos and the new canvas. Whew. Thats as far as Ive got ... and its as many pics as FB will allow in a post. More anon, its back to the garage.

Helgas friend for the day was a classy Humber Super Snipe! (Name unknown, but he looks like a Dudley to me.) Operated by Blue Ribbon Wedding Cars, Bathurst.

Weve been having the first half-decent rain for nearly SEVEN MONTHS ... so hey, while were at it, lets add a blanket of pea soup fog for good measure! 07.01.2022 Finally things seem to be moving! Plans are now well advanced to restore the famous Zig Zag Railway, one of the most beloved of Blue Mountains tourist attractions, which was so devastatingly damaged in the 2013 bush fires. It will, of course, become an important part of the Captains tour services. The Captain will keep you informed.
