10.01.2022 End of Season Due to Corona Virus Following the SCGFC committee meeting today it was decided to end the 2019-2020 fishing season for points as of today's date and restart at a time in the future when allowed by relevant government authorities and our parent bodies. This brings us into line with QGFA and GFAA. Covid-19 has unfortunately twisted the committee's arms on this. We look forward to seeing you all in person on the other side of social isolation. We are looking a...t using technology to hold virtual meetings and conducting workshops etc to still give you member benefits. Stay tuned. Regards, The SCGFC Committee.

09.01.2022 Here is something for everyone to do during isolation! Have your say on recreational fishing in Australia. If club members are looking for something to do while sitting at home, there is an online survey that they could jump onto and complete. GFAA advocates for the rights of all recreational anglers, whether they are club members or not, and this is an opportunity for everyone to have their say and be involved in ensuring the future of recreational fishing by participat...ing. An opportunity that should not be missed. The National Recreational Fishing Survey, is the first such survey undertaken in almost 20 years, so it is vitally important that it is updated. You can learn more about the survey by following this link: https://youtu.be/k3dFnpMhQRk and the survey itself can be found by following this one: www.nationalrecsurvey.com.au The survey is open until mid-May, it offers us all a real chance to have our say and give our thoughts on the way recreational fishing is in this country, so please, don’t waste it. This is the context in which the request is made: The University of Canberra and the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences, are working with the peak body for recreational fishing in Australia (the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation) and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation to conduct a national survey to value the social and economic contributions of recreational fishers and the benefits of recreational fishing. The National Recreational Fishing Survey was called for by the recreational fishing sector to follow up on the last national survey, which was completed in 2000-2001 and is now out of date. We know for example many fishers spend more money on boats and gear than they did 20 years ago. The Survey is being undertaken to better understand the many values and benefits of recreational fishing for anglers and Australian communities. The main survey is open until mid-May 2020, and you can also participate in monthly surveys that provide more extensive information, if you wish. The more participants, the better the result. Whether you fish one day a year with the family or dozens of times, we need you. Have your say and help support one of Australia’s most popular outdoor recreational activities. Plus, each participant has a chance to win one of several prize draws. You can learn more about the Survey here: https://youtu.be/k3dFnpMhQRk Take part in the Survey at www.nationalrecsurvey.com.au

08.01.2022 2020 AGM & Presentation Date and September Meeting Notice Members, Please put in your diaries that a combined AGM and Presentation of Trophies will take place on Sunday afternoon at 4pm the 27th of September at the Cocktail Bar of the Kawana Waters Hotel. ... The September monthly meeting will be a normal member's meeting with a couple of Uni students present who will be giving a quick presentation on their research into sailfish. Dr Julian Pepperall may be able to attend but Dr Sam Williams is away unfortunatley. That will be Tuesday night the 1st of September at 7:30pm at the Cocktail Bar. Entry via the Sports Bar side where you will have to sign in. No lingering in the bar area, buy your drinks and return back to the Cocktail Bar as per current Qld Covid rules. We will also gauge the feeling of the room on what format we should take with regard an October tournament in some form of no frills format. It is still proposed for the October long weekend. Quite possibly a first round of QGFA "All Ports" too though there only needs to be one month between Round 1 and Round 2 now so we could do them over summer when the small blacks are firing. The good news is North Qld is having a good run of small marlin. This usually translates to good fishing for us down here. They are stretched from Cairns to Fraser Island and good numbers in Central Qld as well. Regards, SCGFC Committee

04.01.2022 This is the final slide from our SCGFC Presentation yesterday afternoon. These are our tagged billfish statistics which got us the win as QGFA champion club again. See how we go with GFAA but their season shut down and stayed shut down from the first Covid-19 lockdown. For club and QGFA we snuck a lot of fish in through June at Fraser Island.

04.01.2022 Whilst you are out there fishing for food, if you accidently get a sailfish, keep this in mind thanks. Hi All As some may be aware there is a 3 year study being conducted through the University of Qld on Sailfish DNA. It will be conducted by a new Uni Student and overseen by Dr Sam Williams and Dr Julian Pepperell. Funding for this study will be provided by the GFAA, QGFA, WAGFA, NTGFA with the possibility of some grant funding.... The QGFA is asking for assistance from your club members in collecting Sailfish samples to support this study. What we are asking for is as follows; A flesh sample about the size of your fingernail Place the sample in a clean plastic bag and freeze it down Record the Lat and Long location of the sailfish Record the Date of the Sample, the name of the angler and the approximate weight Once the sample is ready and the data available please contact Mick Meiers (NQEO) on 0427 804 719 and he will arrange for collection of the sample. The assistance of your members in providing these samples for research would be greatly appreciated. If you have any further queries on the study please contact Mick on the above number.
