23.01.2022 We at Captains Flat RFB wish to acknowledge the extraordinary effort our previous commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons, made during the 2019-2020 fire season, and congratulate him on his award of Australian of the Year for NSW. We feel it is well earned. Bravo, Shane!

20.01.2022 Tomorrow is our first Very High fire danger rating of the season. Please be vigilant and leave any spark-causing activities such as mowing or slashing to a cooler, less windy day. With the amount of tall, rapidly curing grass in the district, the risk just isn't worth it.

20.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating for our area tomorrow is HIGH. If travelling, please note and take account of the Rating in the area you are travelling into or through.

19.01.2022 Happy birthday Emerald

16.01.2022 An interesting and informative read, from CSIRO. https://blog.csiro.au/extinguishing-bushfire-misconceptions/

15.01.2022 The Fire Danger Rating for the Captains Flat area will be Very High tomorrow. While there is no Total Fire Ban locally, please reconsider conducting any activity which may cause a spark or other ignition, and postpone or take appropriate precautions. If travelling, be aware of the Fire Danger Rating in the areas you are travelling to and through.

11.01.2022 12 months ago today, two dry lightning strikes lit what would become the North Black Range and Currowan fires, beginning what would become our longest, most involved fire season ever. Captains Flat dispatched a truck (or three) and crew nearly every day for the following three months, a feat which we are immensely proud of, as a small brigade. While we hope to never relive the experiences of last year's fire season, we look back with pride and thankfulness for all the assistance of the National Parks and Wildlife crews, Fire and Rescue NSW, the various councils, NSW SES crews, and most importantly, our communities. Pictured: a light-hearted moment when we realised we had the perfect photo opportunity. The call sign for these trucks is "Captains Flat 7".

11.01.2022 Tomorrow's fire danger is High. Please don't become complacent after our period of good rains. The tall grass around the district is already beginning to cure, and all it will take is a single stray spark. Take care, every one!

09.01.2022 NEW ICONS FOR BUSH FIRES WARNINGS (Published Date: 27 Nov 2020) From early December, the icons shown on on Fires Near Me and NSW Rural Fire Service webpage will be changing as part of a national initiative to have all states and territories displaying incidents in the same way.... ** Watch out for the new icons later this week. ** Learn more at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//gen/australian-warnings-system

07.01.2022 Last night we were honoured to be visited by Lake George Superintendent Paul Jones, in a small, covid-safe ceremony to recognise our efforts during last season's bushfires. All of our members were awarded the NSW Premier's Bushfire Emergency Citation, and we couldn't be more proud. A big thank you to the Superintendent and all who attended.

06.01.2022 This just passed through Captains Flat, or at least the first wave did.

06.01.2022 What a difference a year has made!

04.01.2022 Some Flatties in here.

02.01.2022 Be aware that the town and surrounds may be impacted by severe thunderstorms this evening.
