25.01.2022 Betcha never met one of these cuties before These tiny little guys are a part of our new Nocturnal Habitat here at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. Meet the Feathertail Glider. This is the worlds smallest gliding mammal, and they are here waiting for you to come visit in 2021 and 2022. Do something you've never done before, and may never get to do again..... as the old saying goes.... You'll never never know, if you never never go!

25.01.2022 Here's looking at you 2020.....we look forward to seeing the end of you and welcoming in 2021... B R I N G I T O N !

24.01.2022 All the colours of a rainbow ( Lorikeets that is). Our Breakfast with the Birds Buffet may be on hold during these crazy times, but the experience of dining amongst our wildlife and interacting with our animals is alive and well! Our Volunteers help our keepers with daily presentations, talks and interactive experience, all in the name of a days work!

24.01.2022 Say G'day to Courtney She is the extraordinary Wildlife Keeper that is our Volunteer Coordinator! She looks after all things Volunteer including rosters, days off, first aid ( god forbid!) offsite excursions, onsite happiness, homesickness , wildlife cuddles , photo ops and much more! There isn't much Courtney doesn't take care of for our Volunteers at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. She is missing you all in COVID hibernation and closed borders, but wants you all to swing into 2021 and come join the program... jump on the next flight... you know you want to...

23.01.2022 M E E T B O O ! isnt she just the cutest! Boo is a barking owl, and is being conditioned to be a integral part of our Nocturnal Tour. We look forward to 2020 being behind us and moving forward in 2021/ 2022 and welcoming Volunteers back to help us out with our cool creatures!

23.01.2022 Meet a Mahogany Glider! How divine are these little guys! Listed as an endangered species, the Mahogany Glider can only be found in a narrow corridor land area near Cardwell, about 3 hours south of Port Douglas. This species was rediscovered in 1989 after being lost to science for nearly 100 years! That's how rare these little ones are.... Join our International Volunteer program in 2021, and come work in the Nocturnal Habitat and see some of these little guys doing what they do best...looking cuuute!!! We at @Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas are extremely lucky to be a part of a managed species breeding program for this glider.

22.01.2022 Crazy is a part of the job role at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. You need to be crazy about Wildlife, crazy about caring for animals, crazy about working in a team....... and well just plain old crazy.... We like to have fun around here and get amongst it.

Not even sure we would recommend this, but crazy kids do crazy things when they love our friendly wildlife! We want you to come hang with us in 2021 when our borders open and help us get back into a good Roo-tine!

19.01.2022 Glamorous job? Nope... Rewarding job? YEP! Looking after animals is hard work and definitely not glamorous as you can see from Hollie buried in the Wildlife freezer giving it a clean! However, we can vouch that it is one of the most rewarding jobs going!! Come and find out just how rewarding it really can be!

19.01.2022 Who is up for a challenge in 2021! Luckily Bec, our head of Wildlife knows how to handle this prickly dude! This echidna was brought into our onsite wildlife charity care centre TARC- Tropical Animal Rehabilitation Centre. If you are thinking of joining our 4, 6 or 8 week program in the future, you too might come across this insane creation by mother nature and find yourself assisting our team in the care of injured, orphaned, sick or displaced native wildlife!

If joining the 4,6 or 8 week program when our sunny shores open to the world, you will get the chance to engage with "Bindi" and some of his nearest and dearest.. Are you game?

15.01.2022 Did someone say it's HOT? It can get pretty warm in the tropics at the best of times. On this particular day the temp reached a staggering 42.6 degree Celsius... that's pretty warm even for us Aussies! The crew got inventive with ways to keep cool in Wildlife food prep! Remember, if you are looking to join our program in the Southern Hemisphere summer ( Northern winter) its going to be WARM! Be ready!

14.01.2022 What is it? A possum? A kangaroo? A bear? This little beauty is a Lumholtz's tree kangaroo, and we are only of only 4 wildlife parks in Australia where you get to see these guys. Joining our International Volunteer program for 4, 6 or 8 weeks, means you will likely get the opportunity to work with these guys ( under supervision of course! 12.01.2022 The ‘Green’ season for Port Douglas and the tropics, is the monsoonal months from December through to March. This means we get a lot of rain! This also means sometimes things don’t go according to plan! The team were out doing a Koala gum cut on our plantation next door to the park and managed to get bogged! Lucky they were so close to home, as a few hands were needed to get them out of this pickle!

10.01.2022 M R S N E A K Y H I M S E L F! Babinda... our resident male Saltwater Croc at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas Hitting a large 4.2 meters long and weighing in at over 400 lbs, our boy is a BEAST!! but we LOVE him! Our new exhibit focuses on the creatures of the night, and a few extra special additions not found here in the tropics! These little guys needs lots of love and attention and are pretty cool to work with! Come stay when the borders open!

04.01.2022 This little dude was admitted to our onsite wildlife charity! He's looking pretty grumpy if we do say so!
