25.01.2022 Friday mornings with Ange & Benji. 2 weeks earthside and still hasn’t hit his due date yet!
25.01.2022 Support Small Business Saturday - I reckon after the year we've had (homeschooling and working from home??!!), anyone would be pretty happy to receive a massage and a float voucher for Christmas from Albury Float Room. Remember to support local this year!!
25.01.2022 Sunday’s be like... Wish I was this cute in my tired, stretchiness. Instead I’m grumpy, hormonal & extremely tired due to my 6 year old who apparently no longer sleeps through the night! I’m not convinced she ever fell back to sleep after she woke at 2:30am. I can’t remember the last time she slept right through .
23.01.2022 Sarah in a quarry. Ready to pop
23.01.2022 Red wine and sunsets while the kids play
22.01.2022 Yesterday I got to travel back up to Bright for a couple of sessions. I haven’t been there since March, just before the world went crazy. I was so chuffed when Ailsa, a talented photographer herself at Free Spirit Photography, asked me if I could capture some photos of her and her family. Hells yes I can!!
22.01.2022 Small Business Saturday - love yourself a good King Valley vino? These guys are Pia and Gabe from @cavedon_wines_kingvalley_ and along with Pia's dad Dino, are one of the newest and one of the oldest... They've been growing and harvesting since 1977, but this is the first year they're turning their hand harvested grapes into their own wines. Starting off with a prosecco
22.01.2022 Last week really turned on the sunsets for my final few sessions of 2020.
21.01.2022 I don't show my face on here much. Like most people, I don't particularly love being in front of the lens... I'm way more comfortable hiding behind it! Hi! I'm Karen I’m a photographer, I’m a mum to 2 crazy girls... I’m a partner to my other half of the last 17 years I’m a gardener (sometimes more successfully than other times) I rarely wear makeup and I pretty much have a mum-bun 99% of the time I’m a lover of the outdoors and mountain tops, of valleys and dusty plains I’m a lover of creating things, cooking things, knitting things and growing things I’m a lover of quiet nights on the couch watching Netflix, of Uggboots and cups of herbal tea I’m a human who feels overloaded with emotion and some days lacking the language to express myself I’m a lover of good coffee and good chats, of delicious wine and quiet contemplation, of glasses of gin and lots of laughs I’m someone who can talk to much and laugh too loud I’m a lover of golden sunsets and overcast days, of sunlight dancing through trees and over brown fields of wheat I’m a lover of light and shadow and of genuine, honest humans and of mashing these things together in an array of endless possibility Thanks Andrea Sissons Photography for the photo of me!
21.01.2022 Last week I thought I’d finally finished my Christmas shopping. Then yesterday remembered I had a couple more things to get. So I braved the (not-that-busy) Christmas crowds. Thought I’d finished. Nope. Back again today... NOW I’m done. And if I’m not... too bad. Not going back. Are you a ‘ready by October’ person, or a ‘last minute, Christmas Eve’ shopper?
21.01.2022 Tip toe through the tulips...
21.01.2022 We were this close to getting through Christmas and into the new year Covid free... so close *sigh* Thinking of all those people and families who have now had their family Christmas plans suddenly changed. Fingers crossed this little outbreak can be stemmed and life can go back to normal, well Covid normal, again soon.
21.01.2022 And that's a wrap for 2020. 70 photo sessions - including families, newborns, engagements, maternity, gender reveals, weddings, commercial and preschool photos, as well as running 6 intro to photography workshops. What. A. Year...
21.01.2022 As Mel told me the story of Millie, her scans, her birth, her surgeries, Millie gently reached up and brushed her mums face. A beautiful, small, loving & gentle gesture, to the person who was with her, by her side through her tumultuous journey through hospital & back home. Her safe place.
20.01.2022 Ranucs in afternoon light.
19.01.2022 One seat remaining for this weekends camera basics workshop! Do you have a DSLR or mirrorless & have no idea how to take those photos you’ve always wanted to take? Would you love to know what the dials mean & be able to shoot on manual? I break it down & explain the basics behind shooting in manual mode with lots of time for questions & hands on practice. 10am Sunday 27th at @therealfloristalbury beautiful workshop space for coffee, cameras & cake!! Link in my bio.
19.01.2022 Sunday morning mood with Jarrod & Theo.
19.01.2022 They say don’t work with kids or animals... what about 3 cows, a goat, 4 dogs, 50 chickens, a few guinea fowl & some peacocks.... oh, & 2 delightful children & Kellie! The only casualties were a few flowers & leaves eaten off the table (every time we turned our backs). Kellie and her kids make the most delightful bathbombs & soaps, using all natural ingredients over at Wolf + Wood Natural Healing and Eco-friendly products. My kids have been loving their baths since I got home from this shoot on Saturday!
18.01.2022 It’s almost the weekend, go climb a tree!!
18.01.2022 I was chatting to my sister the other day, about all things baby and we got to discussing baby items... and 'the must haves' verses the 'things I never actually used' verses the 'things I wish I'd had'. I didn't have too many things I never used... perhaps newborn jeans were up there, my second was so fat she couldn't fit in them! Must haves were definitely nipple cream and bamboo breast pads (oh the glamour!!) But of things I really wished I'd had? A proper comfortable feedi...ng chair, a bassinet and a change table. Pretty sure most of my current back problems can be traced back to not having any of those 3 things... What are your recommendations for new mums on items they actually need verses item they won't really need?
17.01.2022 So this happened today. The very clever Shonagh from @moukcreative has done the most beautiful job at updating my website. www.capturebykaren.com.au pop over and go check it out. How delightfully gorgeous is it?! I’m in love
17.01.2022 Going away for holidays is great and all, but sometimes just hanging out at home is just the tonic we all need. I’ve got a coffee machine for the mornings, & gin for the evenings, a brand new 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and a crossword puzzle book I’m slowly & incompletely working my way through. What more could you need? Except maybe a break from the constant fighting...
16.01.2022 I got my last 3 galleries edited and sent out today. I can finally kick back and relax now Bring on Christmas
14.01.2022 Does anything scream spring like paddocks of stinky canola under bruised skies?
13.01.2022 Well that’s Christmas 2020 done. If nothing else, this year has taught us that family, friends and being in the moment are some of the most important things in life. Here’s to 2021 and more family, friends & being in the moment.
13.01.2022 Sarah & Xavier. Those last few weeks when your lap can barely hold your 2 babes at the same time. I spent 24 hours in the Albury-Wodonga Private Hospital with my eldest getting her tonsils out (the staff were amazing!!). It’s not often these days that I get to spend such uninterrupted one on one time with my girls. Despite the crappy situation of having her tonsils removed, she was amazingly stoic through the whole experience. Calm, trusting, remaining positive, even when she... was clearly in a fair bit of discomfort. Those 24 hours she showed me some of the beautifully kind sides of her personality - offering me some of her sandwich, when she hadn’t eaten since the day before, keeping some of her lollies aside to take home to her sister, and making the hospital bed as we were discharged this morning. If the legacy I leave behind is more kindness through the actions I’ve taught my girls, then when it’s my time to depart this mortal coil, I’ll go out happy. See more
13.01.2022 What an awesome idea for a small group corporate Christmas party The Real Florist.
13.01.2022 Albury Wodonga parkrun is back! Who else is excited?! They have a lovely new starting point from Kremur St along the Murray River and through the wetlands and it was a beautiful (if tad chilly) morning for a run. So many happy, smiling faces - 10 months without Parkrun has been hard. I think there were more than a few people happy to see it back again!... Who will be there next Saturday morning at 8am?
13.01.2022 Total grown up goals! My very own letterpress business cards courtesy of D&D Letterpress with my gorgeous new logo designed by Hollie M Kelley How delightfully pretty are these?
12.01.2022 Give the gift that lasts a lifetime. Photos can be enjoyed for generations!
11.01.2022 Happy due date little man! Rach, you made a cute one!!
11.01.2022 Newborn shoots with your second born is never quite the same as the newborn shoot when it’s your first born!
09.01.2022 Flo v’s apple. On the clothesline. At sunset. These are a few of my favourite things... I’ve just started Deb Schwedhelm Photography's Embracing your inner artist course through Illuminate Classes I can’t wait to be challenged. I’m a little terrified. Little bit excited.
09.01.2022 Curtis and baby Flynn.
08.01.2022 Motherhood. Is always raw. And always beautiful. Even in bare feet and messy clothes. In the clover at sunset on a cloudy day.... With children on you & next to you. In a tangle of limbs & linen. Always touching. Always near. Never alone. See more
08.01.2022 Maaike of MaaiDesign in her natural habitat wearing one of the 2 dresses she sewed the night before this session! Meanwhile most of the face masks I started making 3 months ago are still in pieces... never to be finished (I ended up buying some instead, you know, all in the name of supporting small and local businesses...) This was the first of 2 sessions I had in Bright yesterday. It's so good to be able to travel around again. And just over one more week and we don't need to worry about cross border permits and all that palaver!
06.01.2022 Theodore & his smitten parents.
06.01.2022 Coming or going? 2020 or 2021? Monday or Thursday? Morning or afternoon? Coffee o’clock or gin o’clock? No idea what day of the week or whereabouts in what year I’m in. But after the year that was 2020, I think we all have permission to just exist in whatever space-time continuum this week is.
05.01.2022 Imagine staying a night suspended in tents strung up between trees, eating delicious wood fired pizzas for dinner, playing finska, watching the sunset over the valleys and mountains, roasting marshmallows around a fire & waking up to a delicious sunrise. This was us last month, atop Mt Hotham at Alpine Nature Experience Looking for your no-so-business-as-usual camping experience? Check these guys out!
05.01.2022 We all had that one sibling... Which one were you? Karen Webb
03.01.2022 I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair...
03.01.2022 Quinn Patrick - 3 days earthside. Being an Aunty js the best!! Kicking back on a blanket his mum bought in Ireland back in 2006, when we travelled there as a party of sisters before any of us had kids. Before Covid. When life was free and easy!!
03.01.2022 It’s been a week of holding on & holding family close.
02.01.2022 First day of spring school holidays for us here in NSW. It’s about 4 degrees outside. Grey, dank & wet. The kids have already upended my fabric box, paints are out & the fighting has begun! I’m longing for green grass & bare legs.... The promise is by weeks end it will be hot... Bring. It. On. See more
02.01.2022 Last Saturday under the stars at Alpine Nature Experience - sleeping in tents strung between trees, giant hammocks to relax on, a tipi, wood fired pizzas and a fire bucket to toast marshmallows around. We are not going to forget that trip any time soon!!
02.01.2022 It’s hard to imagine, standing here surrounded by lush green paddocks, that 9 months ago, before Covid, this whole valley was completely ablaze. It’s hard to find a tree untouched. Some are covered in beautiful, fluffy green regrowth. Some are completely dead. And scattered through the valley are people like Kellie & Murray and their kids. Powering on, rebuilding & recovering in a world that has all but forgotten them once the media’s attention turned to the pandemic. While current media is focused on the wildfires in the States, don’t forget about our own.
02.01.2022 Mountain air is good for the soul. Only 3 weeks left of summer holidays before school starts back for 2021. What plans do you have for these final weeks?
01.01.2022 Little blog post about my photos from last weeks Voice competition & my upcoming workshops. I have 3 dates left for my camera basics workshops this year. There is one seat remaining for this weekends workshop, & several spots left for 4th October & 1st November. ... They’ve been popular & selling out. And now with border restrictions eased a tad, all our Victorian friends can finally cross for cameras, coffee & cakes at The Real Florist gorgeous workshop space!
