23.01.2022 Following our walk in the Chewings Range in July, we had a few days spare to check out some other local sights. On the way back to Alice Springs, we stopped in at Glen Helen Gorge. Teen went for a paddle on the lilo through the gorge, while I scrambled around the side. A lovely spot with some great reflections! 19.01.2022 Camping at 1600m elevation, you'd expect to be get some special views. But when we set up camp, visibility was horrible (no more than a few metres) and our 1000m slog the hill was looking more than a little futile. With every day comes new possibilities though, and we were treated to an absolutely magical sunrise - our reward for persistence. 15.01.2022 It's been a bit quiet on the adventure front of late, but we'll be back out and about in Barrington Tops this weekend! Although we haven't been out much over the past month or so, we've been honing our skills and practicing some new techniques, which we're excited to put into practice this weekend in Gloucester River Canyon. 15.01.2022 Kahurangi NP contains such a diverse range of ecosystems, from dense beech forest to alpine tussocklands and scree-clad peaks, and everything in between. We were lucky enough to experience this diversity on our first tramp of the trip; after a magical camp high in an alpine basin below Mt Luna, we descended 600 vertical metres through lush rainforest down to the Wangapeka River. Alongside us for the duration was Stone Creek, a swamp-fed stream with endless cascades and waterf...alls. Here's one of them! 15.01.2022 Last weekend, we ventured out into both some old and new territory in Barrington Tops! After so much rainfall recently, we thought it'd be the perfect time to revisit one of my local favourite spots - an oasis of spectacular waterfalls at the head of the Williams River. After a challenging rainforest scrub-bash, I found myself at the top of Double Falls, and with a bit of back-and-forth, I negotiated a significant band of cliffs with the use of a handline, which enabled me to... reach the bottom of the falls. The reward was simply breathtaking! 14.01.2022 One of my new favourite photos! Back into the canyons last weekend after a bit of a lay-off, and what a spectacular weekend it was! Water Dragon was first on the list, and a great challenge to start us off. After entering via what we think is the old route, via a couple of tricky downclimbs and a slide, along with lots of recent treefall, we finally made it into the canyon. Some great abseils, though most with quite tricky starts. This photo was taken just below the last abse...il in a very dark, cold section before some lovely open canyon leading into the Wollangambe. An overcast and drizzly day made for some soft light. Definitely one to return to on a hot summer day!
