In short, my Dad was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2015. Just over a month ago, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He had a radical prostatectomy. In this operation, the surgeon removed the entire prostate gland plus some of the tissue around it, including the seminal vesicles. He was released from hospital and he deteriorated within the next few days. My Mother rushed him to the emergency department where he was assessed. He had a heartbeat of over 200bpm, very low blood pressure and was going into a semi coma. They immediately took him to theatre where it was discovered he was in septic shot as a result of peritonitis due to intestinal perforation. It is a clinically life-threatening condition associated with high morbidity and mortality. Bacterial contamination of the peritoneal cavity lead to abscess formation and growing fungus followed by sepsis. He almost did not pull through. He had about 4x different surgeries in the last two weeks to clean his abdomen and organs. He is still in ICU in Mediclinic Newcastle KZN. My Dad is recovering well and seem to get better each day. He still has a long road to recovery. He is still connected to a backup ventilator, several drain pipes, suprapubic catheter, urine catheter and a colonoscopy bag. The reason for my post: 1. To thank each and everyone of you for the support, prayers and encouraging messages. For being there for my Mum, when I am thousands of kilometres away. 2. As you can imagine, medical bills are streaming in. In April 2020 Mittal Steel in Newcastle issued letters to all employees informing them of a 40% pay cut due to covid. They also have not paid any overtime for a few months. My Dad will be booked off for at least a month as he still does have a long road to recovery. I cannot afford to carry this financial burden all by myself or even just between my brother in South Africa and myself here in Australia. Therefore I humbly ask for any type of donation. As people are reluctant to donate to a cause or even persons unknown to them, I struggle to raise funds. Therefore the idea to hold a raffle where you can buy tickets. All proceeds will be donated to my parents. Raffle tickets will be sold at $5 or $10. I am sponsoring a photo shoot to the value of $800 to this raffle and fundraiser.
