Date: Thursday April 17th Time: 6.00pm to 8.00pm Venue: RMIT University, Building 80, Level 2, Room 7 (map) No bookings, arrive before 6pm to secure a seat About Kahn/Selesnick Richard Selesnick and Nicholas Kahn have been collaborating as Kahn/Selesnick since 1988 on a series of complex narrative photo-novellas and sculptural installations. They were both born in 1964, in New York City and London respectively. They specialize in fictitious histories set in both the past and future. The artists have participated in over 100 solo and group exhibitions worldwide and have work in over 20 collections including the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institution. Portfolios of their work have appeared in fine art and photography magazines worldwide. They have lectured extensively at many institutions including Brown University, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, Princeton University, and San Francisco Art Institute. The artists have also published three books with Aperture Press: Scotlandfuturebog, City of Salt, and The Apollo Prophecies. In 2002, Scotlandfuturebog was named both the best photography book of the year by the New York Book Show, and the quirkiest photo book of the year in the Village Voice’s annual top ten list. The text was written by the American author Ben Marcus. Their most recently completed project, Mars: Adrift on the Hourglass Sea, debuted in Boston, and subsequently was exhibited in New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. The Boise Museum of Art recently received a grant from the Paul Allen Foundation to have the artists travel to Idaho to complete this project, and then mount the Mars exhibition at the museum. The artists are currently working on a project entitled "Truppe Fledermaus & the Carnival at the End of the World".
