23.01.2022 Today is the Memorial of Blessed Innocent of Berzo, Capuchin friar and priest (1844-90). He is known for his deep humility and simplicity. "Br. Innocent only wanted to serve and to occupy the last place... In his exercise book he wrote, 'I will long to be subject to all and be horrified of being preferred in the slightest way. I am treated too well. I truly deserve something else, because I have so many debts with the Lord.' This attitude caused him many humiliations. The fri...ars did not go too much for the thin fellow and they often maltreated him, especially for his endless Masses that lasted well beyond the usual time His thirst for expiation urged him to invent a thousand ways to suffer and be humiliated. He always had his calm, even jesting response prepared, ready to laugh at his own inability and lack of skill He would be absorbed in mysterious, Eucharistic intimacy. There was already for him an irresistible attraction even on the physical level. He could not live far from the tabernacle." https://www.capdox.capuchin.org.au//blessed-innocenzo-da-/ See more

19.01.2022 Happy feast day of Saint Padre Pio! Padre Pio, in the world Francesco Forgione, was born in Pietrelcina, in the diocese of Benevento, on 25 May 1887. Having entered as a cleric in the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor on 6 January 1903, he was ordained a priest on 10 August 1910, in the cathedral of Benevento. On 28 July 1916, he came to San Giovanni Rotondo, on the Gargano, where, except for a few brief interruptions, he remained until his death that took place on 23 September ...1968. On the morning of Friday 20 September 1918, praying before the crucix in the choir of the old church, he received the gift of the stigmata, that did not heal but bled for half a century. During his life he founded the Prayer Groups and a modern hospital, to which he gave the name The Home for Relief of Suffering. He was beatied by Saint John Paul II on 2 May 1999 and was canonised by him on 16 June 2002. See more

19.01.2022 Last night, on the anniversary of St Francis of Assisi's death, Pope Francis celebrated Mass before the Saint's tomb in Assisi and signed his new Encyclical "Fratelli tutti".

19.01.2022 Today is the memorial of St Francis Mary of Camporosso (1804-1866), Capuchin. Upon joining the friars he stated, I came to the convent to be its beast of burden. For 40 years he begged alms in the city of Genoa. He was neither afraid nor ashamed to beg; often distributing the alms he had received to the poor of the village. Although he was frequently heckled and assaulted, he would pick up the stones thrown at him and kiss them - as he savoured anything that united him to H...is Sorrowful Saviour. As miracles, cures and conversions were worked at his hands, people of all classes sought his advice on every conceivable topic. He lived with great austerity, had a most touching love for Mary our Mother and spent many long hours adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. When cholera broke out in 1866, he offered himself as a victim for the sick through the hands of the Blessed Virgin. He succumbed to the plague on September 17 that year, and soon afterwards the epidemic ceased. May St Francis Mary intercede for the world today for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic. Carlo will be beatified on October 10th.

10.01.2022 Today is the Feast of St Elizabeth of Hungary, Patroness of the Secular Franciscan Order. She was born in the year 1207, the daughter of Andrew, King of Hungary. Given in marriage while still a child to Louis, Landgrave of Thuringia, she bore him three children. Intent on heavenly contemplation, after her husband’s death she embraced poverty and became a Franciscan Tertiary. She founded a hospital where she herself served the sick. She went twice a day to see the sick, in the early morning and at nightfall, and it was those with the foulest diseases she made her personal care. She fed them herself, made and cleaned their pallets, carried them in her arms, and nursed them in whatever way they needed. She died at Marburg in the year 1231 at the young age of 24. She was canonized by Gregory IX in 1235.

07.01.2022 For more than 60 years, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa has preached the Word of God as a priest -- and he plans to continue doing so, even as he prepares to become a cardinal next week:

05.01.2022 Today is the feast day of St Ignatius of Santhia (1686-1770), Capuchin and priest. In fact, today marks the 250th anniversary of his death!! Already a priest, he joined the Capuchins at age 30 saying, Up until now, I have done my will; but to truly serve the Lord, I have to do His will; and in order to do this, it will be necessary to put me under obedience. Our Capuchin General Minister wrote us a letter on him to mark this special occasion: https://www.ofmcap.org//Lettera_MG_Ignazio_da_Santhia_EN.p

04.01.2022 As we await Pope Francis' new encyclical on fraternity: "The witness of the Poverello of Assisi, the one who wanted to be a brother to everyone, is as contemporary as ever. He still exhorts us, together with his namesake Pope Francis, to walk the way of fraternity."

03.01.2022 As we conclude National Vocation Awareness Week today, we offer a reflection on the call to religious life from Br. Baudry, a Capuchin friar in formation: "A vo...cation to consecrated life is an invitation to live full of joy and in total dedication to God's people. It is a gift of God and a joy for all. Anyone discerning this way of life should desire the Joy of the Gospel, that is Jesus Christ, and nothing else. Please hold Br. Baudry in prayer, as well as all clergy, religious, consecrated and those in formation and discerning a vocation. #Catholic #Franciscan #Capuchin #Religious See more

01.01.2022 A great little video - with clips of our brothers in North & South America. "With lots of love": As Capuchins we take the Gospel out into the world in concrete ways. May the Lord be known, loved and praised by all!

01.01.2022 Today we celebrate the 50th anniversary of religious profession of Fr Julian Messina OFM Cap and Fr John Cooper OFM Cap. They made their first profession in Wynnum on 31 January 1971. Happy golden anniversary!

01.01.2022 For many centuries Capuchins were characterised, among other things, by their long and neglected beards. It is said that Mozart, after being a guest in a Capuchin friary, left on the table a score of a music called: VENERABILIS BARBA CAPUCINORUM (the Venerable Capuchin Beard). With the reform after Vatican II, there is now more freedom regarding the wearing of the beard, but nevertheless many friars still keep it as a Capuchin tradition.... It's great to be a Capuchin friar!
