24.01.2022 The Art of Carbal - 'Reef Magic' by Uncle Colin Jones: "This painting is called Reef Magic. And when you look at the painting, first of all, on the right hand side, you’ll see the coloured circles with the red, the yellows and the blue that represents the coral of the Great Barrier Reef. In the coral area, you see the sand patterns with the water and the blue with the little yellow dots around representing the sand with the sun shining through reflecting back. And in the re...ef, you have the little jelly fish, so there are three jellyfish in the reef. Then you see the reef crabs the main structure of the painting is the three reef crabs. And they live around the coral and not too far from where they’re safe as they move round to eat. On the left hand side, there’s some shallow water again with the yellow of the sand reflecting back through and you’ve got two jelly fish in that area. The big circle in the blue toward the top of the painting and the one down the bottom left hand side; you look at that and you’ll see very well camouflaged are some reef fish camouflaged in their environment. In the top section, you have the sand along the beach and as the sand flows in to the ocean, as the tides go in and out you’ll see the patterns of the sand flowing and the circles the life force of the sand. And if you look hard on the left hand side, you’ll see the little hand shape, that’s my great grandson’s hand and he’s not quite two years of age. The hand sign represents that we belong to this land. My little grandson is of course Aboriginal so he belongs to this place. So overall, its showing reef magic, the reef crabs, the jelly fish and the little fish." - Uncle Colin Jones January 2021

23.01.2022 8-15 November is NAIDOC week. Please celebrate our beautiful culture. 'Always Was, Always Will Be.'... Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. We are spiritually and culturally connected to this country. This country was criss-crossed by generations of brilliant Nations. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Australia has the world’s oldest oral stories. The First Peoples engraved the world’s first maps, made the earliest paintings of ceremony and invented unique technologies. We built and engineered structures - structures on Earth - predating well-known sites such as the Egyptian Pyramids and Stonehenge. Our adaptation and intimate knowledge of Country enabled us to endure climate change, catastrophic droughts and rising sea levels. Always Was, Always Will Be. acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. Through ingenious land management systems like fire stick farming we transformed the harshest habitable continent into a land of bounty. NAIDOC Week 2020 acknowledges and celebrates that our nation’s story didn’t begin with documented European contact whether in 1770 or 1606 - with the arrival of the Dutch on the western coast of the Cape York Peninsula. The very first footprints on this continent were those belonging to First Nations peoples. Our coastal Nations watched and interacted with at least 36 contacts made by Europeans prior to 1770. Many of them resulting in the charting of the northern, western and southern coastlines of our lands and our waters. For us, this nation’s story began at the dawn of time. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the true history of this country a history which dates back thousands of generations. It’s about seeing, hearing and learning the First Nations’ 65,000+ year history of this country - which is Australian history. We want all Australians to celebrate that we have the oldest continuing cultures on the planet and to recognise that our sovereignty was never ceded. Always Was, Always Will Be. - Words and content provided by NAIDOC.org.au #NAIDOC2020

21.01.2022 Every now and then, Uncle Colin will pay Carbal a visit with a new painting which he is in the process of creating. Here is a sneak peek of a big project of his in its early stages! It’s so early on that we don’t even know the title yet. What we do know is that there are turtle eggs in the story of the painting which our CEO may have confused with golf balls. ... Thankfully, Uncle was there to school him.

13.01.2022 The desire behind what drives people to smoke is often very personal and specific to the individual. This is also true when considering the motivations that are needed for somebody to quit smoking for good! Carbal's TIS team knows that the personal journey to quit is unique for everyone.... What works well for one person may not be effective for another so we try to look at some of the personal considerations at the beginning of each individual's journey. Make 2021 the year that you quit smoking! Support and help is here but only you can take the first step towards making it happen. 12.01.2022 Smoking... How bad can it be? When a person smokes, the harm done to their body is subtle and gradual. Each day, the damage grows....
