25.01.2022 Just finished paint job, for a patient customer. Good timing with the #letourdefrance starting yesterday. Quite simple design with a splash of colour is generally what we go for. I like to let the shapes of the frame and quality of the paint finish do the talking. 25.01.2022 Finished Storck paint job. It has a DNA paints stealth black base coat with silver micro pearls, dark silver graphics all finished off with DNA paints matte clear. 25.01.2022 Well that worked out great. I had to set this #gofoil up accurately to bond the broken piece together before starting the carbon repair. My #efficientvelotools portable work clamp/ workstation had all the adjustability to quickly set up the foil accurately to the crosshair laser level. 21.01.2022 Portable Satellite Earth Station repairs. These are used by TV Stations to do live crosses and weather reports from remote locations. They have to be ultra lightweight to go as normal baggage with the airlines and not too heavy to take on light aircraft. 21.01.2022 Zipp disc patch repair with matching fibre orientation of pre-preg uni carbon fibre. I find this method the best way of repair of nomex cored discs. By curing the pre-preg carbon for the repair off the job and secondary bonding them in place, avoids heating the entire wheel. If you heat the wheel you run the risk of blowing the skins (carbon) off the nomex core. This can occur as the heat would make the air in the honey comb cells expand and lift the skins off. 17.01.2022 I finally finished my #betatools and #efficientvelotools portable work clamp/ workstation. With the nature of the work I do on bikes it is nice to be able to move the frame and workstation around for different processes. Being tall I wanted something that has a full range of easy adjustability for the different processes. This what I came up with. 17.01.2022 Wet sanding to remove the paint from this Colnago C60, before the new paint work is applied. These C series always take so much longer than regular frames with the lugs and concave grooves that run along the tubes. At least with the C series you are always rewarded with nice and neat carbon weave on the tubes and lugs. I havent done a C64 yet but I have read somewhere that they have uni carbon fibre outer layer. 16.01.2022 Stolen - Keep a look out for this custom painted Trek Emonda SLR we painted for Darcy at the Rapha store Sydney. It was stolen today outside Rapha around 3.00pm. It is pure white gloss all over, no Trek graphics with some Rapha decals on the top tube. So it is quite unique.

16.01.2022 Widow Maker - This fork was in for inspection ultrasound scanning and testing, after a minor accident. The findings - manufacturing carbon fibre laminate defect in the form of wrinkles and creases at the fork crown/ base of steerer tube. The fork crown/ steerer tube is probably the most safety-critical location of the bike and is not visible externally for a pre ride check. The minor accident may have transmitted larger forces through the steerer tube, causing severe cracking along the creases and wrinkles/ defect. If this was undetected, the result could have been catastrophic. #ndt #ultrasound #carbonbikedoctor

12.01.2022 Fitting a #bbinfinite BB module to this Cervelo R5 that has BB tolerance issues. Every other 2 piece BBs fitted previously still creaked and chewed through bearings. This is the best all round BB solution that I know of, that ensures bearing alignment. People seem to be put off using bbinfinite thinking it will be difficult to remove. In the last 2 photos Im showing the tool that is used to remove them, an air hammer with the correct fittings that essentially vibrates/ pushes the BB module back out. A much more elegant solution than other press fit BBs that requires 2 people to hold the frame while the third hits the 2 piece BB out with a hammer. #carbonbikedoctor #bbinfinite #therighttools #therightequipment @ Carbon Bike Doctor

06.01.2022 If you have broken or cracked your frame, it really is best to stop riding your bike . The first photo is the damaged seat stay when the customer enquired about repair. The second photo is of the damage when the bike was dropped off to us. Clearly the damage is now much worse making the repair slightly more expensive. Seat stays are designed to flex for a less harsh ride, so when the seat stay is cracked and the bike is ridden the damage is bound to propagate. 05.01.2022 First post for the year! Just a little reminder with the extreme heat returning to Australia and many cyclists in Adelaide for the #tourdownunder. Be careful with your CO2 cartridges in hot cars. The ones in the photos were mounted to the seat tube/ bottle cage and while in the hot car exploded, pretty much shattering the carbon seat tube of this bike. 04.01.2022 We have been noticing that many new bikes now come with the graphics applied by way of heat transfer decals over the paint work. They seem to damage easily and dont look as good as painted or water slide graphics underneath the paint. (Photo 1). For this Focus we painted a matte clear coat over the whole frame and fork, sealing in and protecting the graphics. It gives a much better look and will be much easier to look after.
