12.01.2022 ******In Memorium******** Today an honour guard formed in the damp morning outside Hobart Fire Station to farewell Mr Greg Cooper United Firefighters Union- T...asmania Branch Secretary. In excess of 150 Firefighters from right across the state travelled to line both sides of Argyle Street outside the Old Hobart Fire Station. As the procession passed all those who attended stood-to-attention in a mark of respect for a man who fought relentlessly for them. Greg, who was a champion for the health, safety and welfare of Tasmania’s Career Firefighters will be sorely missed by the firefighting family. Amongst his many many achievements as Branch Secretary he was instrumental in Tasmania becoming the first state in Australia to introduce presumptive cancer legislation for firefighters, recognising the dangerous and difficult work that they do. He significantly contributed to the lives of firefighters and their families in his tenure as Secretary and the wider firefighting community. Greg will be remembered as a strong, determined fighter with a talent for seeing the blue sky when others could not. He and his family are regarded as part of the firefighting family. Fire Rescue Tasmania offers our condolences to the Cooper family and the United Firefighters Union- Tasmania Branch members. Strength in Unity.
