24.01.2022 An inspiring story and message relevant no matter what your life path

24.01.2022 Soft skills are important, and there is a cultural aspect to how they are expressed.

22.01.2022 Careers of the Future - AI, space, smart manufacturing, medicine and technology etc

21.01.2022 In the meantime, because we still use Resumes/CVs, you need to understand that it is a marketing document that needs to be designed by someone who understands how unconscious bias works and can mitigate the influence of the Halo effect, affinity bias, order effect and attribution substitution. Contact us for a strategic resume that increases your competitiveness. https://www.afr.com//want-to-hire-better-workers-chuck-out

20.01.2022 Will your skills still be relevant in 5 years? Disruptive technologies require that we upskill, re-skill or retrain. ‘The World Economic Forum recently projected that while 75 million jobs will likely be displaced by robots, 133 million new jobs will be created. This means a net gain of more than 50 million jobs globally.....Industry needs both technical and non-technical skills to future-proof Australian workers.’

19.01.2022 What is a career? Lots of stories and discussion about meaning, purpose, application of talents, contribution through paid and unpaid work, life roles, ‘being’ in the flow with one’s inner spirit; the Denham Career Development model; Chaos theory; and some happy surprises and new friendships forged thanks to ‘happenstance’. Every continent represented at another great ‘Adelaide Skilled Migrants Meetup’.

18.01.2022 What do recruiters think about candidates they deem to be overqualified?

18.01.2022 Jobs are continuously evolving and you'll see this happening at a faster rate, not just from the impact of global events but also from the innovative leaps and bounds in technology. People skills and employability skills will always be a key element for successful performance.

17.01.2022 At age 23, Tina Fey was working at a YMCA. At age 23, Oprah was fired from her first reporting job. At age 24, Stephen King was working as a janitor and living in a trailer. At age 27, Vincent Van Gogh failed as a missionary and decided to go to art school. At age 28, J.K. Rowling was a suicidal single parent living on welfare.... At age 28, Wayne Coyne (from The Flaming Lips) was a fry cook. At age 30, Harrison Ford was a carpenter. At age 30, Martha Stewart was a stockbroker. At age 37, Ang Lee was a stay-at-home-dad working odd jobs. Julia Child released her first cookbook at age 39, and got her own cooking show at age 51. Vera Wang failed to make the Olympic figure skating team, didn’t get the Editor-in-Chief position at Vogue, and designed her first dress at age 40. Stan Lee didn’t release his first big comic book until he was 40. Alan Rickman gave up his graphic design career to pursue acting at age 42. Samuel L. Jackson didn’t get his first movie role until he was 46. Morgan Freeman landed his first MAJOR movie role at age 52. Kathryn Bigelow only reached international success when she made The Hurt Locker at age 57. Grandma Moses didn’t begin her painting career until age 76. Louise Bourgeois didn’t become a famous artist until she was 78. Whatever your dream is, it is not too late to achieve it. You aren’t a failure because you haven’t found fame and fortune by the age of 21. Hell, it’s okay if you don’t even know what your dream is yet. Even if you’re flipping burgers, waiting tables or answering phones today, you never know where you’ll end up tomorrow. Never tell yourself you’re too old to make it. Never tell yourself you missed your chance. Never tell yourself that you aren’t good enough. You can do it. Whatever it is. See more

14.01.2022 There are nuances to presenting the jobseeker at their best that a professional resume writer just knows.

14.01.2022 Lots of talk about future of work, here’s a viewpoint from McKinsey & Co. https://www.mckinsey.com//the-future-of-work-after-covid-19#

13.01.2022 Could there be an increase in video interviews? A good rule of thumb is to be 10 minutes early to an interview. HOWEVER-- video interviewing a whole different ball of wax. I just heard about a candidate logging in to a video interview 10 minutes early and interrupting another video interview in session. Depending on the set up (Zoom, BlueJeans, Google Hangouts, Cisco), the person interviewing you could be using the same virtual meeting room for all interviews.... Equally important to remember that many recruiters and hiring managers are conducting video interviews for the first time. They are learning on the job and it might not be as smooth as in person. Give them grace. Be prompt but not early for your video interview’ - S Johnston

12.01.2022 Ten Resume mistakes I've seen lately 1. Content not targeted to information needs of employer 2. Language style that does not relate to local industry ‘speak’ 3. Lists of responsibilities rather than statements of impact... 4. Wording that goes beyond being punchy, to the point of screaming at the reader (often prepared overseas or using templates from overseas) 5. Autogenerated resumes that sound impersonal 6. Too wordy, not enough space on the page makes it too overwhelming to read 7. Personal information not relevant to hiring decisions in Australia 8. Bolding, capitalising, shading, larger font of words that do not highlight the selling points of candidate but detract the eye from relevant information (hard to pass the 10 second glance rule) 9. Use of tables / text boxes - not read by tracking software 10. Layout / template that is dated Is your resume suffering from any of these mistakes? Contact Careermangoe for a resume overhaul.

12.01.2022 When planning your upskilling, you might want to consider this. "Understanding which parts of your role or tasks could potentially be automated allows you to focus on building skills or capability in areas that require humans. Generally speaking, anything repetitive by task could potentially be replaced by AI. AI is not suited to roles that combine creativity, strategy and empathy.." Siobhan Savage co-founder of Reejig

05.01.2022 Written 5 years ago and still holds true today

05.01.2022 Great advice from Hays on ‘how’ you answer interview questions - there’s more to it than ‘what’ you say https://social.hays.com//how-to-answer-job-interview-que/

02.01.2022 An inspiring story - from refugee to an IT pioneer, businesswoman and philanthropist. In 1962, Stephanie "Steve" Shirley founded an IT software company when the concept of software barely existed. The company created huge opportunities for women in tech, allowing them to work on projects like the programming of the black box flight recorder from the comfort of their own home. The business thrived and Shirley gradually transferred ownership of the company to those who worked for it, creating 70 millionaires in the process.

02.01.2022 Whatever the future brings it will still require you to know your strengths, what you enjoy and how you would like to contribute your talents.
