23.01.2022 Congratulations to Sama for her end of internship presentation and securing an ongoing role with CPB Contractors on The Northern Road Upgrade Stage 5 project. During my internship I enjoyed networking the most, I met many people who had worked on different projects and shared their stories with me. This opportunity gave me the chance to restart my career and enabled me to be more integrated with the Australian community through joining the local workforce. I would also like to thank my manager, Jo Nolan who provided me with continuous support and was always there to answer any question I had.

23.01.2022 Today kicks off NAIDOC Week 2020 with the theme Always Was, Always Will Be." For new Australians in the CareerSeekers program, such as Haygaz Garabet, participants are encouraged to learn the significance and importance of First Nations people. Haygaz, who is originally from Syria, had the opportunity to intern with CPB Contractors' Indigenous and Social Inclusion team in 2019 and recently spoke about this experience at our annual Spotlight event (pictured below).... In my first internship at CPB I spent part of my time working in the Indigenous and Social Inclusion team and helped with the launch of CPB Contractors Reconciliation Action Plan. Through this I learnt about what organisations can do to contribute to reconciliation and know how important it is to always acknowledge the first Australians...I learnt about the importance and benefits of being diverse and socially inclusive for companies like CPB Contractors. We are grateful that through professional internships our participants, like Haygaz, are able to learn about the importance of acknowledging country and showing respect for Traditional Owners and their continuing connection to country. #NAIDOC2020

20.01.2022 Working from home, Zoom meetings, masks and social distancing is now the new normal for our interns and employment partners. Participants in our university student stream are always grateful for the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience, but are particularly grateful to our employment partners who are going the extra mile to make internships work during this time. We would like to thank all the managers, mentors and team mates at our valued partner CYP Design & Con...struction, the joint venture building the Metro Tunnel Project’s tunnels and stations, who continue to provide support to 19 CareerSeeker cadets during the recent winter university break. Pictured are some of the CYP Cadets: Jawad Ahmadi, Emmanuel Keri, Meareg Kidanemariam, Faheem Sani, Mohammad Fayaz Bahadori, Manhom Marial, Ali Shirzad, Mariam Mohammad Rahim, Meqdad Rezaei, Asghar Ali.

18.01.2022 Thank you for inviting us to be involved in volunteering...I can personally say it was very rewarding and I walked away amazed - there were some incredible people in the room CareerSeekers offers skilled volunteering opportunities for our employment partners and it is not uncommon to hear feedback like this. Volunteering provides a chance for our employment partners to learn more refugees and asylum seekers and the circumstances in which they arrived in Australia. It also o...ffers a hands-on opportunity to contribute and offer an insight into the program. Over the years and many events, CareerSeekers has created over 800 volunteering opportunities for our partners, such as volunteering as a mock interviewer at the mid-career stream training (pictured below). Today we would like to acknowledge all our volunteers who have shared their time and skills with our participants and provided them with a warm welcome to Australia.

16.01.2022 In trying times, we want to thank our partnership organisations across corporate Australia for providing opportunities for many CareerSeekers university students to return for winter internships, which commence today. CareerSeekers students are resilient, diligent, industrious, and keen to contribute to leading organisations in leaving their mark as they settle better, faster, in their new home. They are proven to be able to leverage the experience, learnings and networks bui...lt through internships in order to secure graduate employment. CareerSeekers Kick Off is a key piece of our program, designed to set students up for success as they commence their internships. Due to lockdown measures, we took Kick Off online for the first time, holding four sessions across the past week. We wish our winter interns all the best!

16.01.2022 Congratulations to Ali Hashimi who today delivered a fantastic online presentation to his team as part of his winter internship. Ali has interned with Laing O'Rourke from 2018 and has worked on the MTM Track Renewals project and currently interns for Rail Operations Victoria. He continues to develop professionally and is an asset to the team, working casually throughout his university semesters on top of his internships. Ali, originally from Afghanistan, arrived in Australia in 2015 and is Studying Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Business Management at RMIT. We look forward to seeing the great things he achieves in the future! A big thank you to the team for your support!

16.01.2022 Today we would like to highlight our wonderful partners in Opal Aged Care! Opal hosted their first two CareerSeekers interns last summer, and Diana Butrus (pictured below at her working from home set up), has been continuing with casual work and her winter internship. Originally from Iraq, Diana began studying a Bachelor of Telecommunication Engineering at Mosul University, but was forced to leave it behind as she and her family fled their home country due to war.... After spending two long years of uncertainty in Jordan, Diana and her family were finally resettled in Australia in 2016 as a part of our humanitarian program. In her new home, and with more options of what to study and aspire to for her career, Diana has been studying a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting, at Australian Catholic University, an experience that has been enhanced through her internships in finance with Opal. We would like to voice our appreciation to Opal Aged Care for showing the ongoing commitment and flexibility to support Diana, even during the difficult times that COVID-19 has created, including new working from home conditions.

16.01.2022 It's hard to argue that 2020 has been an absolute shocker, but live streaming our very first online CareerSeekers Spotlight last Thursday night was a great reminder that there's light at the end of the tunnel! The fantastic news is that if you were unable to check it out live, the whole event is available to be rewatched via the link below - feel free to share in your networks and keep the momentum going. https://careerseekers.webflow.io/careerseekers-spotlight#top

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Mary Rose Keshishian and Soiba for their end of internship presentations where they gave insight into their experience at Colonial First State. Mary and Soiba interned as Financial Services Administrators in the Insurance Services Regulatory Response Team. Although a challenge at first, they discussed how they had to learn quickly and apply their knowledge of superannuation to their work, a concept that doesn’t exist in their home countries. Mary and Soiba continue to enjoy their work at CFS and learning more about the superannuation and insurance industries each day.

14.01.2022 Each year CareerSeekers hosts an event to showcase our interns and their extraordinary achievements. It is an opportunity for our partners and friends to hear first hand from CareerSeekers participants of the impact our collective effort is having on the resettlement of hundreds of refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia. If you're curious to find out how much to find out how much the program has grown since our first event in 2016, find out on Thursday 17th September at 5.00pm as we livestream CareerSeekers Spotlight to the comfort of your home. 12.01.2022 It was a remarkable day when I got a phone call from Mott MacDonald that I was being welcomed back and would have the opportunity to work on a new project as an electrical engineer. We would like to extend a big congratulations to CareerSeeker alumni Nabeel Tawfiq for starting in his new role as an Electrical Engineer with Mott MacDonald. Nabeel had interned earlier in the year with Mott MacDonald on the Victoria Cross Integrated Station Development Project in the Building Services Team. Well done Nabeel!

09.01.2022 Sabrin proved her flexibility and professionalism this winter in her internship at Southern Program Alliance. Having previously interned on site, she adapted well to working from home and made a valuable contribution to the team. Having previously presented to a very large crowd (pictured at Spotlight 2019) Sabrin of course adapted well to Zoom for her end of internship presentation! Sabrin continues to develop her engineering and business knowledge and we are excited for her future!

08.01.2022 ... that was the most effective two hours I have spent preparing for an interview! Such was the feedback from a group of CareerSeekers students who last month undertook mock interviews with volunteers from our employment partner Macquarie Group. The exercise was coordinated through our valued partner Macquarie Group Foundation and allowed the students, who will graduate this year, to practice and prepare for interviews as they seek to transition from study to professional e...mployment. It was also a great chance for the students to build their professional networks. Nazdana (pictured below), is in her final year of a Bachelor of Laws at Victoria University and interned through our partnership with the Victorian Major Transport Infrastructure Authority. Nazdana explained I learned from my volunteer that preparation is key to giving a great interview and also the importance of not putting too much pressure on yourself. We would like to acknowledge the fabulous support of Macquarie and thank all the volunteers who generously gave up their time.

08.01.2022 Today we congratulate two new CareerSeekers university student interns, Adnan Alzuhairi (left) and Harith Al-Majidi (right), who commenced their winter internships this week with CPB Contractors on Western Sydney’s Parramatta Light Rail project. Both Adnan and Harith escaped war in their home country of Iraq, but finding themselves in neighbouring Syria, the fighting erupted further, and they were resettled in Australia in 2013 with their respective families on humanitarian v...isas. Studying Bachelor’s degrees in Civil Engineering, Adnan and Harith are looking forward to putting what they’ve learned to the test on one of the NSW Government’s major infrastructure projects, Parramatta Light Rail, which will put an estimated 130,000 people within walking distance of light rail stops. We’d like to give a massive thank you to CPB Contractors for making this happen in spite of the difficult times everyone is facing with COVID-19 and its impacts.

08.01.2022 Tomorrow is World Refugee Day, a day to reflect on the strength, courage and resilience of people worldwide who are forced to flee due to war or persecution. Currently, the number of displaced individuals globally is at an all-time high. COVID-19 has exacerbated an already fraught situation. 261 countries globally have been affected by the outbreak; 134 refugee-hosting countries are reporting local transmission. Basic resources, like food and medicine, are hard to come by and... support services are stretched. Whilst a global issue, it is also a local and personal issue for many members of the CareerSeekers community. So many of our participants still have family and loved ones in affected countries. It's challenging and uncertain times for so many Australians and particularly for those who are concerned for the welfare of family and friends overseas. As we wrap up Refugee Week and mark World Refugee Day tomorrow, the team at CareerSeekers will be thinking of the members of the CareerSeekers community and their loved ones all around the world. https://www.unhcr.org/refugeeday/

06.01.2022 Last month, Sama Nawara commenced her internship with CPB Contractors on The Northern Road Stage 5 project within the HR team. Originally from Iraq, Sama arrived in Australia in 2019 and has previously studied a Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering) in Jordan. At CPB, she is currently working on social procurement reporting as well as having the opportunity to apply her engineering knowledge on site. Sama is enjoying being back in the workplace, "I am thankful for my manager Joanne who is always there to help and lead me in the right direction. It is so nice to be back to work for a company with a great friendly team."

06.01.2022 Over the last few months we have continued working with our employment partners to provide opportunities for volunteers to share their knowledge to our students through virtual opportunities. Shout out to the volunteers from Westpac who recently undertook mock interviews with a group of CareerSeekers students. This exercise provided the cohort of graduating students with invaluable practice to prepare them for upcoming interviews, as they seek to transition from study to prof...essional employment. Sidik Abajemal (picture below), is in his final year of a Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) at RMIT University and interned at Cross Yarra Partnership, the joint venture undertaking the design and construction of the Metro Tunnel in Melbourne. Sidik explained as most interviews are currently taking place online, it was a great way to prepare and practice for a real life situation. We would like to thank our good friends and supporters at Westpac Foundation for coordinating and the volunteers from Westpac who participated.

06.01.2022 As a young person, I believe youth participation is extremely important for global action because we are the future generation, we are THE future." As we celebrate International Youth Day 2020, shout out to Shamsiya Hussainpoor who encapsulates this year’s theme Youth Engagement for Global Action. Earlier this year Shamsiya, who is originally from Afghanistan, undertook an adventure of a lifetime whilst raising money for highly vulnerable at-risk youth via Whitelion's Thr...ee Peak Challenge. I joined a group of like-minded individuals to hike summits of three of Australia's tallest mountains across three states within 33hrs. The experience was truly humbling and rewarding, I absolutely loved it, I ached and each step hurt, but when I reached the finish line, I was in tears and couldn’t believe what I had just achieved. International Youth day gives an opportunity to celebrate young peoples’ voices, actions and initiatives as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagement. Congratulations Shamsiya on being such a strong and engaged role model for your peers. We are proud to have you as part of the CareerSeekers community.

04.01.2022 Senior Advisor Simon Jones and the whole team were so excited to host Summer Kick Off with our CareerSeekers students on Monday! Students from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia tuned in for their final training session ahead of commencing their internships. How do the students feel about their upcoming internships? Sarmad Aldood summed it up - Can’t wait to start!. Our highly engaged and motivated students are determined to make an impact with our employment partners this summer. Good luck!

04.01.2022 Congratulations to Amr for an excellent end of internship presentation and for being offered an extension of work at CPB Contractors The Northern Road Upgrade Stage 5 Project. Amr has been working as a Junior Engineer in the Environment and Sustainability Team where he worked on tasks such as waste water treatment and testing, erosion and sediment control plans and noise and vibration and monitoring. This internship was a great opportunity for me to recommence my career in Engineering in Australia, gain more skills and develop my understanding of the local regulations and standards. I would like to thank CPB and Careerseekers for giving me this opportunity and of course my manager Vince Chaplin for guiding me through all the Australian standards and related work plans.

03.01.2022 Thank you to our returning students Raman Kaur, Akram Geberabi, Cham Jazdan and Haygaz Harry Garabet for sitting on the student participant panel today. The panel discussion provided new and returning students with first hand advice on succeeding in their internship. A topic discussed by the panellists was how their internships helped them with navigating career pathways. Akram who is currently interning at CPB Contractors explained, The internship was so great because it he...lped me with my career pathway and the options within my industry. In terms of university, it made my subjects more enjoyable as I can relate what I am learning and implement it at work as a civil engineer. Cham, EDL intern added My internship has made me understand where I want to go with my career and how to get there. A great piece of advice that Akram left the new students with was to network, network, network! Good luck to all of the students starting their internships in the coming weeks!

02.01.2022 Hot off the press! An employer’s guide to working with refugees: Unlocking new sectors of Australia’s workforce talent has been released by the Refugee and Migrant Services Advisory Council (RaMSAC) and thrilled to see stories of partnerships we have with Macquarie Group, GHD Group and Colonial First State showcased. We couldn’t agree more with RaMSAC members that engaging with Australian businesses is key to improving refugee employment outcomes. Thanks for the opportunity... to be included in a publication that highlights the benefits to business of employing refugees and shares good practice and success stories. Employment plays a crucial role in providing new Australians with not only economic security, but also a sense of belonging. Take a read and get in touch if you would like to learn more. https://lnkd.in/gaaMFja

02.01.2022 Building on the skills learnt from the recent Michael Page webinar, over the past two weeks, over 80 students across Australia attended group interview preparation sessions online. Under the guidance of advisors, students had the opportunity to practise their elevator pitches among their peers as well as learned how to answer general and behavioural questions at an interview with confidence and consistency. For the majority of students, this is their first interviewing experience. Group interview preparation is an important step leading up to summer internships and ensures that students are well prepared for their upcoming internship interviews. We wish them all the best!

01.01.2022 Congratulations Joelle! Last week, Joelle Kalaijy commenced her internship at the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) within the Housing Division. Joelle is interning as a Project Officer and her previous overseas experience in business administration and customer service are an ideal fit for the role. As well as navigating a new workplace, Joelle is also adapting to the challenge of working, and interning, from home.

01.01.2022 This week we virtually hosted the first round of training for the new cohort of CareerSeekers in our university student stream. The students delved into the concept of internships, program expectations and the importance of professional development in establishing your career. The training also provided an introduction to the CareerSeekers program and discussed the origins of the organisation. Did you know that CareerSeekers is the product of a long history of impactful inter...nship programs dating back to the USA INROADS program that our founder Michael Combs took part in? The rich history of this program model has been proven to work globally across many programs including INROADS, INROADS DE MÉXICO, A.C., CareerTrackers Indigenous Internship Program and TupuToa. In the coming months, we look forward to giving the students a signature CareerSeekers diary as they progress to interviews for summer internships. We would like to thank the students who attended the training this week and welcome them into the CareerSeekers community!

01.01.2022 Excited and proud that our partnership with the fabulous team at Westpac Foundation has been extended for a further two years! This investment from Westpac Foundation will enable us to provide additional support to the new Australians in our program, helping them break down the barriers they face in securing professional employment. In an economic climate where inequalities are only being amplified, this kind of support for humanitarian entrants seeking to start professional careers in Australia is more important than ever. Thank you Westpac Foundation for all your support!
