25.01.2022 Some Christmas laughs for all those sleep deprived new mums out there.
25.01.2022 Fantastic article written by the amazing Hannah Dahlen explains the ins and outs and pros and cons of GBS testing. Highly recommend his article to all women considering what option they will choose in pregnancy - and yes, you do get to choose whether or not you have this swab done or not.
24.01.2022 Highly recommend Transform Parenting facilitated mums groups. Tracey is such a fabulous educator and facilitator and this is a great way to connect and grow with other new mums.
24.01.2022 The amazing and well known Canberra childbirth educator Tracey Anderson Askew from Transform Parenting (previously known for her popular CalmBirth classes) is offering parents a free zoom class focusing on staying relaxed and excited as your bubs arrival approaches at this stressful Covid time. Highly recommend to all expectant parents so register your interest now
23.01.2022 While the COVID-19 situation continues to escalate and the situation changes daily, we wish to advise our valued clients that we are committed to continuing to provide essential services to pregnant women and new parents in the ACT and surrounding NSW region. Midwifery is well recognised as an essential health service and for this reason we will do our best to maintain the high standard of care we are recognised for. We are remaining up to date with the rapidly changing situ...ation and have taken steps to ensure we do our absolute best to protect our clients and ourselves from infection. We continue to offer antenatal and postnatal visits in your home, an important option for many women self isolating and for those experiencing anxiety at the reduction in face to face consultations at local health services. Home visits will not be available for those who have identified risk factors or are unwell, or those with an unwell household member. We will be texting to confirm your wellness status before attending your home. Of course, we continue to maintain high standards of hygiene and we have both completed the Dept of Health Covid19 hygiene training modules for health professionals. We will Continue to follow the advice by federal and state health departments as the situation evolves in coming weeks and months. For those women wishing to access midwifery care but wanting to avoid face to face contact, Telehealth bulkbilled midwife antenatal and postnatal appointments are also now available via phone call. Just get in touch with us by phone or email and we will book a time for a phone consultation. Sending wellness wishes to you all at this difficult time. See more

23.01.2022 R U OK? Today reminds us of the importance of protecting and promoting our mental health through healthy habits and keeping socially connected. Please reach out, there are lots of services and people able and willing to support you
23.01.2022 Hold your little ones close, they are only tiny newborns for a minute. The world is a big scary place for a new born, and the safest place to be is tucked warm and close to your heart.
21.01.2022 Is you fit the MO, you might like to participate in this study.
21.01.2022 This issue of banning women from accessing a shower or bath in labour shows the pressure the Victorian healthcare system is under. It is not an policy based on evidence of transmission. Instead of banning lets work from a safety view. Allow women access to water and make sure you dont get wet when caring for them.
18.01.2022 Some very helpful information here for parents worried about how the COVID virus may impact their baby. If you are pregnant or have a new baby and are needing antenatal, postnatal or lactation support, remember that we are here to help. We can provide Medicare bulkbilled Telehealth phone or zoom appointments. We can also provide face to face visits in your own home. Please dont hesitate to ask for help in these difficult and stressful times.
17.01.2022 Please participate if you can.
17.01.2022 Even though this is set in New Zealand, the information is useful.
15.01.2022 An interview I did with Babyology on caring for your post birth body.
15.01.2022 Love the work of amazing Tracey Anderson Askew. Now offering zoom Transform parenting classes (previously Calmbirth). We highly recommend these classes for couples preparing for labour and birth.
14.01.2022 This new book is published in July. The midwife who did a review said '"I love this book. I have facilitated postnatal groups for many years, so I am acutely aware of the huge hole in support and information for those starting their lives as mothers. This book goes a long way towards filling that hole. Sophie is a scientist turned doula, so is beautifully qualified to offer practical, evidence-based information with compassion and empathy. She gives us pointers to things we s...hould all know, but have somehow lost in our rushed and internet-obsessed world. Based on her four pillars of postnatal recovery - rest, nutrition, social support and bodywork - she gently guides us through practical steps to support an optimal postnatal recovery. Packed with common sense and wisdom, with enjoyable personal stories and references and resources second to none, this book has something for everyone who is pregnant or has just had a baby. I not only recommend it, I would go so far as to say I think it is essential reading." See more
14.01.2022 For all the pregnant and new mums out there stressing about COVID-19, here's a fabulous article written by Professor Hannah Dahlen and Professor David Ellwood, two of Australia's leading experts (midwife and obstetrician) to provide some sensible advice for expectant and new mums. Advice includes continuing to breastfeed to help protect your new baby and considering early discharge from hospital. If you are needing help with breastfeeding your new baby, or are concerned about having enough support to go home early, please call Ali and Mel. We are continuing to provide our home-visiting midwife and lactation services to new mums. Its more important than ever that women have access to expert support and advice as we face this challenging time.
13.01.2022 Now that Covid restrictions are being lifted, its time for women to be allowed to have their chosen support team for labour and birth.

12.01.2022 Well worth keeping handy and referring to when facing decision making before, during and after birth. Or at any time in life when making important decisions!
11.01.2022 Hope all the Dads out there had a wonderful Fathers Day yesterday!!
11.01.2022 Its Infant Mental Health Awareness Week. **Newsflash** It's ok to hold your baby! A lot of new parents worry that they have to try to put their babies down to ...check if they have fed enough. If a baby is settled in the parent's arms/on their chest then it's likely that they are ok! They will soon tell you if they are not. Along with lots of wet and dirty nappies this is a good sign that all is well. And there is also likely to be a lot less crying and unsettled behaviour. Babies do not like to be put down. They wake up, find themselves on their own and cry because they want to be safe again. The babies that cried when they were on their own earlier in our evolution, were those that survived. Our babies have not changed much since then. Through the eyes of a baby, they are at risk if they find themselves on their own. #imhaw2020 #first1001days #throughtheeyesofababy
10.01.2022 As always breastfeeding is the best way to start.
10.01.2022 Do you want to see more homebirth options in your area? We would love your response to our latest research survey. All about your experiences accessing homebirt...h services. Well use the results to advocate for more. More choice and more accessibility across Australia. This short survey is for anyone Australia-wide who has actively considered a homebirth - whether or not they ended up planning one or giving birth at home. Survey link: https://forms.gle/o2iZJFAf8ryn31BV7 Thanks in advance for your time and please share with your networks.
10.01.2022 If you are experiencing ongoing nipple pain or feel something isn’t right with your breastfeeding, please get in touch. Tongue ties can present differently for each mum and bub, from nipple pain to inability to remain well latched, to excessive wind and reflux and a whole range of other symptoms. We can help with your feeding and assess for ties, and if your bub does have ties that need sorting (not all ties necessarily need snipping), we work with the amazing GP/IBCLC Dr Sarah Bombell and will refer you and bub for expert, experienced, kind and supportive care.

08.01.2022 Hope all the Dads out there had a wonderful Father’s Day yesterday!!
07.01.2022 So often when helping women experiencing feeding difficulties, the woman will say I was told that the latch looked right.... Doesn’t matter what it looks like, if it doesn’t feel ok to Mum, if it feels painful, feels pinchy, your nipples are bleeding, grazed, blistered or cracked then please ask for help.

01.01.2022 Some useful information here on managing mastitis and blocked ducts. Know what the early signs of blocked ducts are and get on top of it as early as you can and you can often avoid mastitis. Its important to also understand how your microbiome can increase the risk of developing mastitis and how probiotics can help prevent and treat mastitis. And of course, give us a call at Care Midwifery if you are needing help with this or any other BF problem.
01.01.2022 Have your say about your experience of giving birth and parenting in this uncertain time.
