Your boss can only send you home without pay when there’s no useful wor...k to do because of: equipment break down natural disaster (including floods, bushfires, tropical cyclones) industrial action. This is known as a stand down. Being stood down without pay can only happen if the reason for the stand down was out of the employer's control: https://www.fairwork.gov.au//pay-during-stand-down-and-sev If you’re casual, you can be sent home without pay when it’s quiet. But if your award or enterprise agreement has a minimum shift for casuals, you’ll need to be paid for those minimum hours (even if you didn’t work them).
