11.01.2022 Photo: ThomasMarent Sunda slow loris (Nycticebus coucang) is an endangered primate species found in Sumatra, one of the eight species found in their range of S...outh East Asia. Predators; Orangutan, civet cats, sun bears. Threats; habitat loss and wildlife trade. Interesting fact: They have a toxic bite which is rare to find amongst primates. They have a sexual gland on their arm which secretes the toxin. This is activated by mixing with saliva! Cute right?! Due to their cuteness, however, they are kept illegally as pets , and unethically, their teeth are removed. You can find many videos on youtube about ‘slow loris as pets’ and ‘tickling is torture.’ Slow lorises are nocturnal and using a red light due to their sensitive eyes, we can find them in Batu Kapal area when we do our night walks! Our reforestation program and educating the community will help towards increasing the slow loris numbers! Kukang sunda (Nycticebus coucang) merupakan spesies primata langka yang ditemukan di Sumatera, satu dari delapan spesies yang ditemukan di wilayah jelajahnya di Asia Tenggara. Predator; Orangutan, musang, beruang madu. Ancaman; hilangnya habitat dan perdagangan satwa liar. Fakta menarik: Mereka memiliki gigitan beracun yang jarang ditemukan di antara primata. Over the years they create their own mind map where all the trees are and when to travel to those trees to eat their fruits! 01.01.2022 I am devasted to say our jungle school at selang pangeran washed away in the flood last night. The landak river rose between 5 and 10 metres over night. Thankfully everyone is safe but so much damage to homes and guest houses along the river
