22.01.2022 My favourite resource this week! Looks simple right? It is! Counters, stamps and stickers are great (and quick) rewards that little ones are motivated to work towards. Using these helps keep your child’s attention during learning tasks to help them achieve lots of practice of speech sounds, letter sounds, sentences or words to read - whatever it is their goal may be. Plus the bonus magnet (magic wand) is always a client favourite. ... If homework is becoming a stressful time, consider these helpful little additions to increase motivation and maintain attention! #rewardsystem #makinghomeworkfun #speechtherapy
16.01.2022 23-29th August is Speech Pathology Week. 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability. Difficulties include more than just speech - language, social interaction skills, reading and writing and voice difficulties can impact a person’s participation and life outcomes. ... Communication is a basic human right, so let’s continue to advocate for all those in our communities who are working hard to learn to communicate with confidence. And a shoutout this week to all speech pathologists doing their best every day to support others, keeping up their evidence based practices and looking after themselves in order to continue delivering quality intervention to all individuals and families in their care #speechpathologyweek2020 #speechpathology #communicatewithconfidence #advocacy #raiseawareness #communicationdisability #communicationaccessforall
15.01.2022 This is a wonderful visual filled with ideas to support language and enhance a child’s participation in their learning when attention difficulties are present. Hands-on play, craft, use of visuals and incorporating a child’s interests into speech therapy sessions is always a priority
14.01.2022 Ball play! Here are a few ways they can be used to support play skills and early language development: take turns rolling or bouncing to each other with ‘ready set go’ or ‘1-2-3’ verbal routines, waiting for eye contact to improve joint attention and shared interaction skills. Introduce new people into the play and make it fun! big/little throws or use different size balls to teach size concepts.... teach action words like bounce, roll, kick, play, give, spin, stop and catch. Happy playing!
07.01.2022 Balloons to celebrate the long weekend! Use bubbles, balls and balloons to help stimulate early language and play skills. See previous posts for info on how to use bubbles and balls with your little ones to support communication! Play with balloons to teach: joint attention and developing longer attention spans - blow it up and let it GO, watching as it flies around and giggles fill the room! ... requesting - more action words - go, stop, blow, fly, bounce, like, get, give, catch and many more! imitation of actions and sounds turn-taking and waiting #speechtherapy #earlylanguage
