22.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder that change rooms can only be used to access toilet facilities, this is due to the 1.5m social distancing rule and reducing the risks of community transmission should there be an outbreak. We ask that you assist us by wrapping poolside and leaving in a timely matter. This will assist us in keeping COVID compliant and allow patrons access to toilets facilities. Thank you, John Carew Swim Team

16.01.2022 With confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our region over the past week it is imperative that ALL members of our swimming community follow these simple, preventative measures: Keep your child at home if they or you are unwell. Calling us to notify of absenteeism prior to their class will ensure a make-up lesson is issued to use at a later date. Physical distancing measures for adults remain in place. This includes the requirement that adults should maintain a physical distance... of 1.5 metres from each other to help prevent the transmission of COVID-19. This must be done at the rear of our centre. Families are respectfully asked to limit their time in the facility at the end of a lesson. We ask that you wrap-and-go. Our change rooms are strictly off limits with the exception of access to toilets. Please be prepared with an extra towel, robe and beanie to go home in. We thank you for your continued support. John Carew Swim Team Queensland Health has expanded its list of venues where cases of the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre cluster visited. Anyone who has been to these locations at the times specified should monitor their health and if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms, even mild, get tested. The updated list is available at: https://www.qld.gov.au//cor/current-status/contact-tracing. To find your nearest fever clinic, visit: https://www.qld.gov.au/covid19testing

15.01.2022 Just a reminder of our WRAP and GO policy. At the end of your childs swim lesson we encourage you to dry your child pool side and leave as soon as possible. With the current COVID restrictions our change rooms are limited to two persons at any given time to allow access to the toilets only. You cannot use the space for showering or dressing your child. 13.01.2022 Just providing a heads up - Direct Debits going live Online automatic payments (direct debits) for swimming classes is going live on Friday morning (7/8/20). You have been able to set up manual online bill payment and automatic bill payments through your customer account for a about a month now. Although manual bill payments have been operational, I did override and disable the automatic payments at our end until I was confident that this would work. Although you may have... setup automatic payments, I was still controlling whether I would allow payments to be processed which has added some confusion to the automatic payment process. If you have set up your online payments and you wish to manually authorise payment for each invoice, please confirm automatic payments is disabled in the billing section of your online account by this 7/8/20. You can switch between the options as you please. I do not expect to have many issues from Friday, but please contact me if there are any unusual issues and I will resolve them.

12.01.2022 Reminder that John Carew Swim School is CLOSED Friday August 14 for the Ekka public holiday.

08.01.2022 WEEK 3 TERM 3 5 BENEFITS TO SWIMMING THROUGH WINTER 5) It Boosts your immune system.... As we all know; coughs and colds are common throughout winter, but research shows that regular exercise (such as swimming) strengthens our immune systems. 4) Maintaining / developing skills. If your children attend 1x 30 minute swimming lesson per week, their maximum lesson time is only 26 hours per year. This total then decreases with every sick day or holiday. Children (and their bodies) need repetition in order to learn and develop, and by taking a break over winter, the risk of skill regression largely increases. 3) Quieter classes = more attention! Unfortunately, it is inevitable that some families will pause their swimming lessons over winter, but that comes with benefits for those who choose to remain! You are far more likely to get your child into the lesson of your choice during winter. This in turn means that when summer rolls around, you will already be booked into your preferred day and time. There is also a good chance that your childs class size will be smaller during this time, and your child will receive more one on one time with their teacher. 2) Your child will be stronger for summer As mentioned above, children learn through repetition. By maintaining your regular swimming lessons throughout winter, your child will be stronger in time for summer. This is so, so important for all of those days at the beach, playdates at the pool, and for your familys safety while on holiday. This brings us to 1) Safety! Ive said it before and Ill say it again: swimming lessons provide a vital lifesaving skill. Children can drown at any time of year. Regular swimming lessons are a vitally important step towards keeping your children safe around water. During swimming lessons; along with technique; children learn about safe entries, safe exits, reaching the side if they are to accidentally fall in, and who to go to for help in case of an emergency. Keeping this information fresh in their minds will hopefully keep them aware around water all year round. John Carew Swim Team have some HOT tips to keep you warm. ~Pack a hot water bottle in your bag! This will make your towels nice and warm for when your child finishes their lesson ~Bring a beanie! Body heat escapes quickly through your head, so put on those beanies after class! ~Dry off and wrap up Spend the extra three minutes on poolside to dry off and wrap your child up before leaving or going out into the cold. And my personal favourite: ~Hot chocolate We are lucky enough to have a cafe at our pool, why not treat yourselves to a hot chocolate or tea for the journey home. To secure your TERM 3 bookings, please contact our reception staff: 3878 6388 0408 443 601 [email protected]
