08.01.2022 Some work on a broken door today Now this is a bit of a long read, Sorry It all came about while I was fixing the Truck in the shed at work yet again.... Life hey Its coming up very close to 20 years working here at GSR. I have always been the ‘fix it’ man here, (In Ians eyes) with him (Ian) by my side on every project. Sometimes wishing he’d just leave me to it, to fix the said problem by myself in peace. Him getting his fat little stubby fingers in the way trying to hold something for me, (me thinking shit mate you’re just making it harder, get out of my bloody way ) but always amazed and appreciative of his eagerness to help me and also his undeniable passion for his job, trucks, business, life in general and the future for his beloved family and amazing girls. Sometimes working here, fixing trucks and other things in the shed (as I continue to do) was at time’s a bit annoying, but makes me think back and appreciate the time I spent with my good mate (and boss) and all the things he taught me over the years, and the situations you unintentionally find yourself in and have to teach yourself anyway. Things you think you couldn’t do but when it comes down to it, if you just give it a crack you can surprise yourself and in the end come out feeling pretty chuffed with what you’ve achieved. His confidence in me, believing I could do something, having never done it before still amazes me to this day. Also having plenty of young workers over the years come through this place and ask the question ‘how do you know how to do this stuff, and how did you learn this’ ?? The answer to this question is, and always was ‘look, listen, try, give it a crack, Fail !! (maybe a little swearing) try again, learn from your mistakes, your mates, your Dad, your boss and anyone willing to help you until you get it right’ !! Life can be hard at times, but don’t let it get you down, tough it out, be strong , positive and you’ll be ok. So cheers to my old mate for the 20 years of life lessons and being a big part of who I am today.
