25.01.2022 Carine Masters had a rep in the 1.25km OWS Round 8 event at Sorrento today and we are pleased to report that Miriam got around the cans somewhere near the middle of the throng and 8th out of 20 female Legends finishers. This was a huge event with over 1500 swimmers across five distances, plus the Junior "Splash and Dash". Beautiful conditions if a little hectic on the start lines. We are standing by for the race report from our crew kicking it southside in Mandurah for the WOW Swim ...

25.01.2022 Managed to add some points to Team Carines tally in the Virtual Meet - some cooking at home off the LiveLighter menu and a quick couple of kms down at Craigie to round out the day

25.01.2022 Some more ideas to keep you moving while we are out of the pool

25.01.2022 Now for todays swim! Team Carine - made up of Matt, Jeanette and Lauren - made our way to South Beach, Fremantle for Round 2 of the WOW Swim Series. It was a relief to get in the water as the temperature was starting to soar, even at that time! Great effort team! Shame our raffle winning streak was broken

22.01.2022 This looks like fun!

20.01.2022 FREO OCEAN CLASSIC - Team Carine (in the form of Matt and Lauren) fronted up to Leighton this morning to compete in the 1600m. Big shout out to Matt The Jellyfish Magnet who kept going despite being attacked from all angles by stingers. Big congrats also to Keira (Laurens eldest) for making her debut in the 150m Guppy race

20.01.2022 Let's do this There's an event here for everyone, and the meet is open to all financial Masters members. Email your entry to [email protected] this week. Even if competing isn't your thing, we company and timekeepers!

20.01.2022 Well done Deann!

19.01.2022 Start the year as you aim to continue! We are back into training this week, 7pm Wednesday. Hope to see you there

19.01.2022 Team Carine made the dawn trek down to the lovely Coogee Beach for Round 2 of the Swimming WA Open Water Series. Miriam took on the 1.25km, with Matt and Lauren upping the ante to 2.5km. The day started out looking beautiful with a light surface chop, but the breeze filled in quickly as the events got under way - the second lap finishing up much more challenging than the first - for the two who had to do a second lap Of course 'the locals' made their presence felt with all... of us, Matt-the-Magnet in particular. The first aid post did a brisk trade in icepacks. All part of the fun! Miriam got round the cans just inside 25 minutes (she was so stoked with this she thought the counter was broken) - Lauren completed the double lap in 0:54:15 with Matt following up just past the hour mark - great effort for this early in the season! #OWSSeries #comeswimwithus

18.01.2022 Just up the road, and a chance to be part of the LiveLighter Masters State open water championships. There are 400m, 800m, 1600 and 3200 courses so theres something for everyone. Who is in?

18.01.2022 A reminder that the Newman Churchlands LiveLighter Club Challenge is just a week away! This was a great, friendly and fun event last year, and we hope to have a good contingent again on Sunday. Get your entries in to [email protected] and be part of the fun

17.01.2022 Lovely morning at the beach yesterday for the Christmas 10K. There were some very impressive athletes there taking the opportunity to get a qualifying time for the Rotto swim. Also really fun to watch all the paddlers with their swimmers. I represented Team Carine in the 3.4km event. Definitely earned my Christmas lunch!

17.01.2022 It is the night before Christmas and only 4 sleeps until the last OWS Series swim of 2019 Round 6 Mullaloo Beach is Saturday presented by City of Joondalup. South32 Rottnest Channel Swim & @porttopub Qualifier. Register at www.openwaterswimming.com.au & #comeswimwithus Saturday!

17.01.2022 Tuesday is almost here We know youre all very excited to return to the pool, we are too. While we know things are going to look and feel a little different, ...we want to make your visit an enjoyable one. Heres what your pool visit will look like on the day. More information about our reopening is available here: https://bit.ly/3g8oaoa

17.01.2022 Picture a Winter Solstice event in your mind, and these shots are probably NOT what you see - what a beautiful day! Miriam took the plunge and represented the club in the LiveLighter Winter Solstice Swim. A slow and bracing entry to the water, thats for sure - but a sudden head-high dumper rearing up out of nowhere put a stop to her hesitation! She stuck it out to notch up 10 points for a regular swim, 400m-1km, with a couple of quick laps of the southern end of Sorrento Beach. Lower temperatures dont have to mean staying dry! Next event on the calendar is the Bunbury Masters Postal Swim, with entries due in September. Lets see if we can get a group together!

16.01.2022 Looking for something to do this long weekend? Consider joining the Virtual Meet

16.01.2022 Some pics from last weekends swim. Matt and I represented Team Carine in Round 5 of the Open Water Swimming Series in Mandurah. Beautiful on the beach, but conditions not as great in the water making it a tough hit out. Nevertheless some great results achieved - Matt taking out 4th in his age group and silver for me in mine

14.01.2022 Summer means open water events out the wazoo, with Round 6 of the Swimming WA series taking place at Mullaloo beach this morning. Matt and Lauren took on the 1.25km, and Miriam got a last minute surge of inspiration due to excess ham and trifle, and ventured beyond the chlorine to have a go at the 500m. Whitecaps started to fill in ominously as registration was in full swing, making for challenging conditions. Matt and Lauren finished neck-and-neck (but well gloss over the... mens & womens 2 minute staggered start!). Lauren took out a solid 4th in the Legends division, and even in the turbulent & crowded seas Matt "Mr Consistent" kept it steady within a few seconds of his tried & tested time. Miriam was stoked to not only survive the experience but finish mid-pack and 2nd of four female Legends in the 500 - beginners luck?? For our two resident hardnuts, today was just a warm-up for tomorrows Indian Ocean 5000, from Floreat to Scarborough. Watch this space!

14.01.2022 In recent months, we have all learned the importance of fitness, friendship and fun. It is great to be back in training and we hope to see you there!

14.01.2022 Jump in and get your spot before they are all gone!

13.01.2022 What a beautiful morning for a swim! Team Carine fielded a team of three at the annual Coogee Jetty to Jetty event. The point to point course was in stark contrast to yesterday’s maze at the marina, and was welcomed by the eager participants. The elusive Daphne thankfully held her spot at the finish line. Mind you, there were definitely moments when she did not appear to be getting any closer, no matter how hard you swam! Some great achievements in the water - Andrew just get...ting pipped at the post for a podium finish; and Lauren and Matt putting in strong performances after backing up from yesterday’s marina swim. Well done and thank you to Cockburn Masters for hosting today, as well as all the sponsors who made this event happen. Looking forward to the big anniversary swim next year!

12.01.2022 Carine Masters sent a team of 3 to the Stadium Masters LiveLighter Club Challenge. The meet kicked off with the 200s - Matt and Miriam's freestyle heat was a sadly fraught affair. Miriam suffered an eyewear system malfunction off the blocks that turned her gameface to sadface, Matt drained the tank too early and limped home - was it the long road back from injury, or cruel caffeine deprivation to blame - who can say!? Better times were had in the 100s & 50s - the gents stick...ing with freestyle and Miriam taking forays into breast and back. The solid performer for the day was John Bell, who managed to stick to the race plan & finish very comfortably inside his entry times in all his 3 events. As always, it was a day to focus on the #LiveLighter message - the key is getting out there & being active regardless of age. Our thanks to Stadium Masters for hosting us for a fun morning's racing, and to Ron Gray & the fabulous team of officials and timekeepers. #mastersswimmingwa

12.01.2022 There are two days left to register for the City of Joondalup WOW Swims Mullaloo Mile. Come along and join us, there's a distance for everyone! One wave of the 1.6km will be the MSWA State Open Water Championship, so why not throw your hat in the ring https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1317294805309653&id=688332734872533

11.01.2022 *SWA Foundation Diamond Mile: Harvey Dam* March 15 saw Matt and Lauren head down to Harvey to represent Team Carine in what would turn out to be our last organised swim event for the time being. Since we were making the two hour trip down, it made logical sense to complete the longest distance available - 3.2km (or 2 miles) . Low water levels in the dam meant the diamond was reduced from 800m to 400m, meaning we were not only testing our physical endurance but our short term memory. I had many a moment of thinking was that 4 laps or 5?. As long as it wasnt 9 instead of 8 we were all happy It was lovely to meet some new people (shout out to Angela from the Bunbury Tri Club photographed with us below), as well as help the SWA Fiundation raise funds to help support swimmers with disabilities #comeswimwithus

11.01.2022 Carine are off the blocks in the Virtual Meet! Miriam snapped this selfie on her 25km ride up the coast while trying to keep the bike from blowing away. Might not have been a swim, but nearly as wet in the patches of rain. What runs will you put on the board for the club this weekend?

11.01.2022 Need something to fill the gap once the ocean swims are done? Why not sign up for this

10.01.2022 Thats a wrap! Tonight was the final training night for 2019, and David Laws last night in his position as our coach. David, ably assisted by Jane Laws, has coached the team for the last four years (and has served the club in many more ways over many more years). David and Jane, we cant thank you enough for your dedication, encouragement, support and friendship. See you all poolside when we return on January 15, 2020!

10.01.2022 Team Carine were 3-up for the OWS Series Finale, at Mindarie Marina - Matt, Lauren and Miriam signed up for the day's longest distance, 2.5km. The afternoon start was an interesting (and hot!) twist - but then again, in the confines of a marina, we're protected from the more unpleasant and challenging aspects of ocean swimming. At least, that was what we thought!! Matt and Lauren lasted through the two laps of the crowded and labyrinthine course, but not without a wrong tur...n or two at Albuquerque. After the first lap Miriam drew inspiration from a childhood sporting mentor who used to say: "If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right!" - and let's just say she 'changed distance mid-race'. It was a slightly deflating end to what has otherwise been a cracking series - so let's not dwell on the crunchy bits: nothing but admiration and respect is due to the organisers and water safety teams who made this event happen in a pretty challenging venue. Stay tuned for a report back from the team heading for the Coogee Jetty to Jetty swim tomorrow- the only way is up

10.01.2022 How are YOU keeping your race pace ticking over while we are hunkered down against a global viral nemesis? Not so long ago, we were looking forward to the MSWA States this weekend - so much can change so fast. Stay safe, stay well and hopefully stay fit - until we can meet again

10.01.2022 INDIAN OCEAN 5000 - well, that was character building! Team Carine - represented by Matt and Lauren - fronted up to Swanbourne Beach this morning to take part. Conditions were less than ideal, with Lauren having to pull out around the 3km mark due to sea sickness (note to self - kwells next time), but Matt was a superstar and pushed through to the end. Shout out to Rachel for coming down to meet us at the end at Floreat. Floreat Beach

09.01.2022 Details below for those who want to jump in the pool at Craigie

09.01.2022 Team Carine sent a gang of four to the Melville Masters Live_Lighter club challenge on Sunday. And with the inclusion of a Mixed Medley relay event - we finally fielded a team! Our star performer of the day was David Davies who took out category wins in both his Freestyle events. Matt also swept the board in his age group, and Lauren scored a first and two hotly contested second places. The team also picked up second place in the Club Handicap award - not a bad effort!

07.01.2022 This could be some fun! For those out there looking for a way to stay fit while we are out of the pool, this could be just the ticket

07.01.2022 Some of you, like me, may have panic bought a wetsuit recently as a way of ensuring you didnt miss out on hitting the water while the pools were shut. Check out the tips in this video so you will get the most out of your swim

07.01.2022 Yesterday also saw Carine Masters members make the trip to the delightful Doddis beach in Mandurah for Round 5 of the WOW Swims series. Conditions were nice, Jeannette completed the 1km in 25 minutes, with Matt taking on the 2kms in 42 mins. WOW Swims are an open water series with 7 events per year, at beach, river and lake locations across the greater Perth region. All ages and abilities are welcomed. What better way to partake in a national pastime and celebrate the wonderful place we live

06.01.2022 INDIAN OCEAN CLASSIC & FREO FINS 50m MEET The weekend of the 14th and 15th was meant to be a double header, with an ocean swim on Saturday and pool event on Sunday. Sadly Matt and Lauren were not destined to hit the water at Floreat on Saturday morning, as dangerous weather conditions saw the event postponed to the following weekend. In a wonderful turn of events, the weather was lovely on Sunday, making the Freo meet a great morning. After putting in a lot of km’s in the ocean in recent weeks, the 50m sprints were a nice change (and shock to the system!). Solid effort put in by Matt and Lauren, with Matt retaining his title of Mr Consistent by only swaying from his usual times by mere hundredths of seconds

05.01.2022 Whos in? Could be time to start turning the cranks again

05.01.2022 CAMBRIDGE OPEN WATER SWIM - Nothing says excitement like a shark alarm at an open water swimming event. Matt and Lauren hit the water at Floreat this morning to represent Team Carine in the 4km event. Conditions looked ok from the beach, but were challenging once you were in. Everything was tracking along nicely until the shark alarm went off during the second lap and we were all evacuated from the water. Bit of an anticlimax, but meant we could grab our bacon and egg roll earlier than expected

04.01.2022 How do you like them apples! Well done Lauren for cracking a mention in the top brass of the Virtual Meet over the weekend. We were also stoked to see our Club Patron, Dr Kay Cox get in amongst it too. Well done team - Hopefully soon we will be able to enjoy some friendly competition "in real life" too

04.01.2022 Roll call! The Newman Churchlands LiveLighter Club Challenge is coming up on February 16th. This highlight event for the club is a fun morning of friendly competition at a lovely outdoor venue. If youre thinking of giving carnivals a go, this is the perfect place to start. Entry requires financial membership - time to renew memberships and get your entries in to [email protected]. This weekend, Carine Masters members will also be taking part in the WOW Swim at Mandura...h, and the OWS Round 8 Event in Sorrento. Not so much the racing type? Thats fine too! Next Wednesday night is our monthly Happy Hour, after training - bring along some (non-alcoholic) drinks and some nibbles to share. Theres something coming up for everyone

03.01.2022 Unfortunately, our training and activities are suspended until further notice due to the developing situation around COVID-19 and the closure of Craigie leisure centre. Stay tuned, over the coming weeks we aim to look back on the last few summer events that you may have missed. Stay healthy, and well see you back in the water soon!

03.01.2022 Team Carine fielded five competitors in the Newman-Churchlands LiveLighter club challenge on the weekend. We definitely punched our weight given our small numbers, with the club finishing equal 7th of 21 clubs, alongside our neighbors at Whitfords. There were some strong performances with David Davies taking convincing category wins in both his events, John Bell with two seconds and a third, and Lauren sweeping the board in her new age category. Miriam and Matt had a little ...trouble mode-switching after a summer full of distance events, topping up the team's tally in more modest fashion - except for Matt's dark-horse victory in the backstroke even after an altercation with a lane rope. Our special thanks also go to Marie, who came along to cheer the team on and put in a solid shift timekeeping - our events can't run without the help of the officials and timekeepers. And thanks as always to Newman-Churchlands Masters for putting on a great event.

02.01.2022 Not quite so ambrosial up at Shorehaven this morning, for the OWS Round 9 swim - stiff breeze from the south, lots of chop and surge and barely a few feet visibility. Matt backed up yesterdays 2km effort with another 2.5km, finishing 7th in the mens Open division in a little over 57mins. Lauren and Miriam did the 1.25km, with Lauren taking out the bronze in the womens Legends, & Miriam staggering up the beach 13 seconds behind. Well, thats one way to put in a hard days work before 10am on a Sunday! #comeswimwithus

02.01.2022 And that is a wrap for another big weekend of swimming! Saturday saw Matt and Lauren hit the water in Mandurah for Round 3 of the OWS Series. Both had time improvements from the week before and no one was stung by jellyfish, so a successful outing! Today, the team made their way out to Lake Leschenaultia for the first WOW swim of the season. With no chance of getting hit by stingers in the lake, Matt took it upon himself to get stung by a bee before jumping in the water Great results all around, with Matt taking out third place in his age group and Lauren taking out second in hers. Lauren’s mini me Keira swam the 400m try it race and thoroughly enjoyed her first real hit out in an open water event. Great weekend all around

02.01.2022 Who is pumped for a pool meet? Claremont Masters have come up with the goods!

01.01.2022 Who is feeling brave?

01.01.2022 My, the Open Water calendar is starting to fill up - and the LiveLighter WOW Swims series is just the beginning! What are your picks for the season so far?
