22.01.2022 From Dan Andrews. When school goes back this week, itll look a little different. Schools will provide everything our kids need to study remotely but theres... always room for extra learning . Thats why were doing this. Were teaming up with the ABC to massively expand the educational programming on offer and to bring the classroom into the living room (or dinner table or kitchen). More than 4,000 videos, resources and games will be available on the ABC website that match up with the Victorian curriculum. Educational shows for primary and secondary students will run throughout the day, as well as mini-lessons led by teachers. Nothing will ever replace our incredible teachers and the work they do. But were making sure every Victorian student has access to as many learning opportunities as possible. BYO chair and bear. ( First glance, I read that as BYO beer. )

21.01.2022 The number one reporter of child abuse is teachers but with children not seeing them until this virus passes, neighbours and family please pay close attention.... We cannot let this health pandemic turn into a child abuse pandemic!!! For many children Schools are the only safe haven they had. With schools closing and people losing employment there will be a surge in child abuse and domestic violence and due to isolation it will be even harder to detect and respond to. Please look out for everyone and report abuse to the authorities. #LookingOutForEachOther #ReportAbuse #StaySafe See more

16.01.2022 My husbands worst nightmare!!

16.01.2022 THIS is why you buckle your kids into their car seats correctly every SINGLE time. Even when they scream because the straps are tight. Even when they complain a...bout the chest clip or being rear facing. We stopped for milk on the way home from preschool yesterday. We were minutes from home. Someone sped through a red light and slammed into us. You never think it will happen to you. My boys escaped without a scratch but the paramedics told me it could have been very different had I not taken the extra 2 minutes to be sure they were buckled correctly. I will be fine, my kids are fine, everything else can be replaced. Sending thanks to God for keeping us safe (along with Honda, Graco & Chicco). **Thank you to Jenna Rabberman for sharing this all-important message!

15.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon me & my mummy sat in the waiting room, while my big Sister had an eye test. A lady who was also waiting, looked at me and said "youre far t...o old to be in that buggy and have that bottle" Shes kind of right I am 4 now and most of my nursery friends do not use a buggy anymore, but Im not like most of my friends, my brain doesnt understand the danger of roads & I still fall over a lot because I struggle with my balance and coordination due to poor muscle tone. I am working hard at the gym (occupational therapy) but my legs arent strong enough to walk very far yet. My special buggy helps me to stay safe. In regards to the "Bottle" I think the lady meant my beaker, I know Im meant to drink out of a cup without a lid now Im a big 4, and when I am at home I do practice drinking from one, because my Mummy doesnt mind if I spill it all over me, but when we go out she wants my clothes to stay dry so I dont get cold & this is why I take my beaker out with me. Dear lady at the opictions, My Mummy said you probably didnt mean to be rude, and maybe your comment was because your generation doesnt know much about Autism. This is why she was very polite, and didnt say much back to you. I was unable to say anything to you myself as I cant say many words, but I am a very clever little boy. Even though you have been in this world for many more years than I have (and even more years than Mummy has) I would like you to understand that my age doesnt represent my ability, and please also be aware that not all disabilities are visible. Mummy says I do not have to justify myself to anyone but Im not writing this for that reason. Im doing so because I want to help educate you about Autism, and encourage you & others to ask questions instead of making assumptions that you know best. After all, it doesnt matter how old we get, we never stop learning. Thank you for reading. Hugs from Byron

08.01.2022 Next week will be 3 years since we held him. So, allow me a few minutes of your time to talk about water safety. Nothing angers me more than these generic messa...ges people send out to parents with the same old water safety tips. As if we dont already care enough to watch our kids in water or get them swim lessons. Water safety is not that simple. So this wont be one of those messages. This one is real and it is raw. I checked all the boxes a good mom would check before going to the pool: swim lessons since he was a baby he knew how to swim I was CPR certified taught my kids to respect the water kept my eyes and ears on the pool But on June 16, 2016 none of that mattered. Pools are not toys. They are holes in the ground filled with water. Beaches are not parks. They are the mouth of the ocean. We have to treat these bodies of water with the fear they demand. Water doesnt care. It doesnt have feelings. Water doesnt signal to you when something is wrong, and your kids cant either. Here is my PSA. DROWNING IS SILENT. Theres no splashing, no yelling for help. Nothing about drowning will catch your attention until its too late. Drowning happens under water. You cant yell for help under water and you cant splash below the surface. Whatever youve seen on TV, just forget. It doesnt happen that way. We have been conditioned to look for certain distress signals that just wont happen. Westons Story: I was standing 3 feet away from my son. He was on the step and I was standing next to him while I was telling the other kids to be safe in the water. How ironic is that? In my head, I was close enough to him to hear any struggling. I was close enough to feel water splash on me if he were to struggle and splash. But none of that happened because drowning is silent. It only took less than a minute. In less than a minute he quietly slipped under and his lungs filled up. I did CPR and he threw up the water. I was holding my sweet boy telling him everything was ok while he clung to my chest and cried. He was AWAKE and ALERT when EMS arrived. Our ambulance ride was precautionary they sedated and intubated him as a precaution but he never woke up. We waited for three days for him to wake up, praying for a miracle. I was prepared to wait for the rest of my life. But he had lost all brain function. He would never wake up. Every moms worst nightmare was now my reality. Three years later and I dont have all the answers for you. I thought I did everything right that day. I dont know that there is any one way to prevent it. Lately good parents are losing their kids to drowning every day in our city and it breaks my heart all over again every single time I hear about another victim. So I leave you with another list of boxes to check: Drowning is silent. Dont wait for the splashing. It CAN happen to you. It happened to me. Treat water with fear and respect, not as a toy or park. It doesnt matter if they can swim. It can happen to anyone. It happened to Weston. SURVIVAL SWIM LESSONS! This is different than learning to swim. This is teaching our kids as young as babies how to save themselves in an emergency water situation. Doing all of the above still isnt enough. Never get comfortable. Never believe youve covered all your bases. Always look for more ways to stay vigilant. Please let Weston be your inspiration this summer. Let Westons story rattle you to your core so that you dont wind up with your own story. Dont ever forget him. Dont ever forget what happened to him. Let his story save your kids lives. I dont want any pity, I dont want you to feel sorry for me. I just want you to promise me that next time you take your kids near water, youll remember Weston. Remember him and let his story change how you feel about water. I will never get to hold my son like this again. Its a pain I can never explain. I can only hope and pray that his story will save others. #drowningissilent #rememberweston #sayhisname
