A defibrillator (sometimes called a ‘defib’, or AED/automated external defibrillator) can save someone's life if they have a cardiac arrest. The sooner you use a defibrillator, the greater the person's chances of survival.... It is a life-saving device that uses electricity to re-start the heart or shock it back into its correct rhythm. It is used when someone has a sudden cardiac arrest. This is when the heart suddenly stops pumping. Giving the person immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and using an AED early on can greatly increase their chances of survival. The most important thing is to use the defibrillator quickly. Dial triple zero (000) and ask for an ambulance if someone has had a cardiac arrest. Five Simple Steps To Help Our Health System:... 1. Wash your hands. Hand hygiene remains the most effective way to prevent infection. We encourage everyone to wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and sanitize with alcohol-based hand sanitizers, when handwashing is impractical. 2. Stay at home. Stay at home unless you need to go out for essential purposes such as grocery shopping, visit to your pharmacists or doctors. When you are out, maintain social distancing! 3. Get your flu shot. Yes, get your influenza vaccination now. Your pharmacists will be able to advise if you would be suitable for the vaccine. Although the influenza vaccine does not protect you against Covid-19, it is very effective to protect you against the deadly influenza.
