25.01.2022 WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF... (Translation:) Hey! Yes its me, your dog. I know this is weird that Im talking to you, but I had to find a way to communicate with you. Luckily I found some software to translate this message Look I know Ive been acting up recently Ive been lunging at other dogs, barking at them and not coming when you call my name Please, dont send me to an obedience school, or to a shelter. I know what I need, and its not rehab! Heres the TRUTH Ever since weve lived together Ive been hiding treats that youve given me around the house I bark at other dogs because I think YOU need to be protected And I dont always come when you call my name because The truth is I think that Im the one in charge!! HAHAHAHAHA But when I listened to you talking I discovered that you dont like that I bark at other dogs And that you WANT me to come when you call my name And I dont want to wear a shock collar, or go to doggie rehab So let me let you in on a little doggo SECRET Because this is going to help you, to help me. This might hurt to hear: But right now, I dont see you as my leader, because youre not acting the way a pack-leader is supposed to act. Now - dont get me wrong - Im not saying you need to be aggressive with me Nope nope nope. I dont want that. To be the leader of the pack, all you need to do is follow 5 simple, gentle rules (Hint: you cant let me hide my treats!!) And my friend Sharon Flower teaches these rules in her course of dog training. Use these rules Theyll teach me that youre the pack-leader, and Ill be able to calm down and stop trying to protect you all the time. So before you send me to Doggie Rehab, PLEASE give this a shot! ~ Your Best Friend

25.01.2022 Jumping Dogs: How to Keep Your Pup from Jumping on House Guests Your dog is calm and sleeps on the floor all day long. Then BAM! 21.01.2022 I am thankful for my dogs sense of adventure. Have you ever asked your dog to try something new and their response was, no thanks! Me either... My dogs are always down to go with me on new adventures, whether it be traveling somewhere new, exploring a new walking track, or testing out a new food. Your friends and family members might not always be down for the activities you want to try, but I can bet that your dog will be the first to volunteer to go with you! Of course, as long as the activity is safe for your canine companion and within reason. Over the years I’ve made so many amazing memories with my pups who have been willing to walk with me every step of the way, and I thank them for their dedication!

21.01.2022 Came across this the other day and thought Id share.... This is something everyone should see. When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.... When you run them excessively or dont restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you dont give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in. But when youre letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint. You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one. Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while theyre still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once. A bit of back-story: This is a baby puppy who had a knock to his elbow and wasnt using it properly, so he was taken to the vet. There is nothing wrong in these x-rays, thankfully it is a soft tissue injury and he is expected to be fine.

17.01.2022 I am thankful for my dogs impact on my health and well-being. Dogs can improve a person’s health and well-being in so many ways. For starters, our canine companions are experts at helping people cope with mental health issues. While dogs can’t cure depression or anxiety, they sure can provide a lot of comfort and support, which greatly alleviates the symptoms.... This is why many people who struggle with mental health issues end up adopting a dogfor the love, support, and companionship. This is common for seniors as well, who desperately need the companionship. Our pups also have the ability to improve our physical health. When you adopt a dog, they rely on you for complete care, which means getting up off the couch to attend to their basic needs on a daily basis, such as going for a walk or being fed. I’ve gotten so much exercise thanks to spending time outdoors with my dogs. And I’m willing to bet that I owe my good health partly to my dogs. Has your dog been a contributing factor in improving your mental or physical health? Tell me in the comments below; I’d love to hear your story!

16.01.2022 A cool analogy Ive been using lately... When addressing unwanted behaviour treat your dog like a carton of eggs: - we dont talk to the eggs - we dont pat the eggs... - we dont make eye contact with the eggs - we handle the eggs gently See more

15.01.2022 With the storm season please keep your animals safe. I have a girl that hates thunder, wants to kill it, she has her storm wrap thats like a big hug. They come inside and as long as you keep your energy calm they will calm down. If you dog wants to hide under a bed let them, like kids if you cant see it it didnt happen. You dogs feel what you feel so keep calm and relaxed and not patting if they react to storms as it just justifies their reaction.... My other dog doesnt care about storms so they are all individuals, treat them as such. But I can help you through the process. See more

15.01.2022 A little cutie today

14.01.2022 I was at a neighbours house we were sitting out in the driveway having a chat. The kids let the dog out who is not a year old yet. It raced at all of us and jumped up. Owner yells no down, a person the dog jumps on says oh hello and pats the dog. I ignored the dog thinking the owner is trying to stop the dog from jumping up. After a while the dog jumps up on the owner and climbs on her knee, the owner helped it get up by lifting its back legs up on her knee. I shook my head.... This poor dog gets so confused with what it is supposed to do. The dog runs off they yell come back here the dog comes back and they yell at it for running off. I’m a human and if someone called me over and than told me off and yelled at me I would take off too. This is why I train the humans, what you want your dog to do with you, it will do with everyone. Unlike humans, dogs do not think that is a child I won’t jump on them or they looked dressed up I won’t jump on them. What they get rewarded for they will do to everyone so they get a reward from everyone. A child’s yell is high pitched, to a dog that’s a stimulated sound so it’s like a reward or playing. One of the hardest things to do is ignore them but it’s one of the best teaching aids a human can do for their dog. When you call the dog and it comes big rewards. People now a days are time poor, so they ask can you take my dog and train it. Of course I can. But once I return the dog to the family and it sees it can do exactly what it was doing before and get away with it, it will go back to doing what it did before. People say it didn’t work, it did the dog learnt but the owners didn’t. This is why I train you and your family. It’s the knowing what to do, what to reward, how to act that trains a dog. I am very happy to give you that knowledge but it’s up to you as to how you use it. If you are time poor, knowledge of what to do with the time you have, is the biggest gift I can teach you. Remember your mate will be with you for many years. Your lifestyle may change your dog can change with you if you can put the time into it.

10.01.2022 Please take care of your pets this New Years Eve

10.01.2022 I was approached by a couple who had a dog from a puppy and he was raised with another dog who passed. They adopted another older girl to keep him company. They were ok together for a start but than the fighting started. I came in and worked with them and and changed a few things around in behaviour. I got the biggest smile on my face today as I received this video. As you can see they are playing and just 2 very relaxed dogs. The owners have done a great job in following my advice. I love what I do.

09.01.2022 Socialisation Tip : Set Your Dog Up to Win How to Safely Socialise Your Dog with Other Household Pets Successfully introducing your dog to new animals is dependent on setting your dog up to win so that no one (you or your other animals) ends up stressed out, injured, or unhappy.... What does this look like? In a nutshell, it’s all about having the patience and putting in the effort to help your dog adjust. The best thing you can do is put a solid training program in place for your dog before he/she ever meets another animal. I personally recommend my Dog Training Program. The Dog Training Program is designed to help you teach your dog that he/she can follow your lead and look to you for guidance and direction. When your dog understands that you are in control, he or she will learn that it’s not necessary to become overexcited, anxious, stressed, or fearful when a new situation arisessuch as bringing a new animal into your home.

06.01.2022 Our neighbours have a new puppy and I was looking at how they are wanting to train it. Start at a early age with easy commands. Sit, wait, give, take, ok. Always make them sit before giving a treat, which leads up to wait once you put a bowl down of food. Dont wait too long before you say ok. Ok is a release word....Continue reading

06.01.2022 Had a busy last couple of days with aggressive dog consults. If a dog thinks it has to protect you, you have a problem I can solve. Sometimes the dog caught growling about to bite is not the culprit. ... Understanding triggers, and dog body language can solve a lot of problems. People dont realise what they are feeling in themselves runs down the lead to the dog. Also if you are felling fearful a dog knows it and will protect you even when you dont want it to. Every case is different and unique and I can help you understand why things are happening, what to look out for and how to deal with it. Love what I do to help people understand their dogs

05.01.2022 I am thankful for my dogs ability to teach me about kindness, gentleness and unconditional love. My dogs teach me new things on a daily basis. However, one of the most important things my dogs have taught me is the importance of being kind and gentle, and how to love unconditionally. In fact, my entire dog-training career (and dog-training program) have been founded on these principles.... (If you’re in need of a training program, you can drop me a line or call 0447 576 200) There’s nothing better than knowing that your dog loves you regardless of how successful you are, how much money you make, how nice of a house you live in, what you’ve experienced in your past, etc. And, it’s a great reminder that we should practice these principles whether it be while training a dog or socializing with your coworkers at the office. I hope this upcoming Christmas period provides you with an opportunity to reflect on just how amazing it is to have a dog in your home. While you’re reflecting, don’t forget to give your fur baby an extra treat or belly rub to remind them how appreciated they are!

04.01.2022 I am thankful for my dogs constant companionship. Dogs are by far one of the most loyal creatures on the planet. After all, what other animal will watch you walk out the door to leave for work or run and errand, then sit at the window all day simply waiting for you to get home? Your pup’s favorite person is YOU. And having this kind of connection with animals is one of the most beautiful things in the world.... While we all need human connection, sometimes all it takes is a cuddle on the couch or a long walk in the park with your fur baby to remember you are not alone. Need a hug? Your dog will be there! Need someone to listen to you? Your pup will happily do so! Simply need a day to rest and relax? Your dog’s got your back! Thank your pup today for their constant loyalty and companionship.

04.01.2022 I am thankful for my dogs goofy antics that make me laugh. Dogs do the funniest things. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that most pups do at least one thing a day that brings a smile to their owners’ faces. I know my dogs do!... From chasing tails to protecting you from that evil bird that sits outside your window, it’s pretty easy to chuckle as you watch your pup explore the world. We all could use a little more laughter. Thank your pup today for the smile he/she puts on your face!

02.01.2022 A Final Thought on Bringing Together Your Dogs and Your Other Pets How to Safely Socialise Your Dog with Other Household Pets. Just to add a final note, I want to make it completely clear that not all animals are going to get along.... Dogs are just like people, and, unfortunately, sometimes no matter what you do, the animals in your home aren’t going to enjoy each other’s company. Furthermore, there are some animals that simply shouldn’t be left alone togetheror introduced at all. For example, if you have a dog with a high prey-drive instinct, it’s simply not smart to leave him/her in a coop with chickens. While you can put in place training (like the Dog Training Program) that makes it possible for most animals to co-exist peacefully, in some situations it’s simply not worth the risk. And, let’s be honestdoes your new dog really need to be left alone with your cute, cuddly baby kitten? The answer is likely a big NO. It’s up to you as a dog owner to make common-sense decisions about bringing new animals into your home. For example: If you’ve recently adopted a dog with a history of attacking cats, it’s not wise to go out and bring home a new kitten from the shelter. It’s your responsibility to put some serious training into your dog before you make that kind of decision. If you know your dog has a strong hunting instinct, don’t leave him/her alone with smaller animals that look like tasty snacks. If there’s no reason for your pets to have to interact (perhaps you have a pet snake that you keep in a tank in your room) maybe it’s best that they never meet. After all, is your dog really going to become best friends with a reptile? It’s unlikely Be smart. Take precautions. And be sure to set up all of your animals (especially your dog) to win! Best of luck, Sharon Flower
