23.01.2022 Christina is a carer for her adult son who lives with mental illness. I don’t feel like we’re a priority for the government. Because we’re so exhausted from what we’re doing we don’t tend to pop our heads up very often and make a noise. So we’re very easily overlooked. Carers seem to be an unheard voice in a large ocean. For carers week she spoke to us about her experiences and the change she wants to see to improve the situation for all carers. Read her full story here: http://www.caringfairly.org.au/carers-week-2020-christinas-

22.01.2022 Caregiver stress syndrome occurs when people in support roles report higher instances of physical, mental and emotional symptoms directly stemming from the help provided. Knowing how to recognise and alleviate it can help you stay strong and feel capable.

22.01.2022 An astonishing 81% of carers in our survey said their mental health had deteriorated since COVID-19. Reach out to the carers in your life and offer them support. It can be as simple as giving them a call for a chat, or offering to spend time with the person they care for, to give them a bit of time off. We all have a role to play in making caring fair and we can start right now by reaching out to carers who are doing it tough. #SupportUnpaidCarers [Image description: image 1 is an icon of a person with their head in their hands and a thought bubble with 81% in it. Next to this is text that says mental health deteriorated. Image 2 is an icon of a person frowning holding their hands to their temples as if stressed. 22.01.2022 Were hearing from carers across Australia about the huge impact the COVID-19 outbreak is having on them. Carers are taking on more care responsibilities, facing increased costs, and many carers are losing income. The Australian Government needs to increase the Carer Payment to support unpaid carers through the COVID-19 outbreak. #RaiseTheCarerPayment Josh Frydenberg Senator Anne Ruston Mathias Cormann This quote from a carer who responded to our COVID-19 survey shows just how tough it is for carers right now. Thanks to everyone who has shared their experiences with us so far.

21.01.2022 How has the COVID-19 outbreak affected you and the people you care for? Weve developed a short survey to capture unpaid carers experiences of the outbreak to inform our work to fight for carers rights throughout this time. Wed love to hear from you! Take the survey here: https://survey.mindaustralia.org.au/index.php/354933?lang=en

21.01.2022 Did you know that the majority of unpaid care work is undertaken by women? Currently 7 out of 10 primary carers are women. Much more work needs to be done to address the gendered nature of unpaid care and make sure women and girls who care are supported to live fulfilling lives. [Image of text: Over 70% of primary carers are women. Carers Week 11-17 October.]

19.01.2022 Last night Senator Rachel Siewert shared some of the findings from our COVID-19 carer survey in the Senate. Its so great to see carers voices represented - thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with us and to the Senator for her continued advocacy to have the Carer Payment and the DSP increased. Well be sharing more of the survey results really soon. Watch this space! #RaiseTheCarerPayment

15.01.2022 Everyone deserves the support they need to get through COVID-19. Yet right now across Australia, unpaid carers are being kept awake at night worrying about how theyll pay their bills. The Australian Government must act to change this. Sign the petition to increase the Carer Payment today. Carers deserve the same support as everyone else to get through these challenging times. Raise you voice to tell the government to stop leaving them behind. https://actionnetwork.org/peti...t/increase-the-carer-payment/ [Image description: a close up of two people holding hands. 15.01.2022 Did you know that over two thirds of primary carers are women? This International Womens Day Caring Fairly recognises the considerable contribution and hard work of women and girls who support family, friends and loved ones through their unpaid care. Were throwing back to Jo, who generously shared her story with us. Do you have a story to share? Let us know in the comments.

14.01.2022 COVID-19 has had a huge financial impact on unpaid carers. Over a third of the carers who responded to our survey said theyd lost some or all of their regular income due to the pandemic. Many people said that this financial strain was taking a toll on their mental health and wellbeing. The Australian Government must do more to financially support carers through this crisis. #RaiseTheCarerPayment [Image of text: "I cannot sleep because I am concerned about money, going over and over numbers to make sure I can cover everything and hold it all together. I also feel stressed because I now have no help or support at home and feel like I am pulled in many directions.]

14.01.2022 My caring role is now 24/7 and Im financially worse off. The cost of living has sky rocketed and the government doesnt seem to care about carers Help us make sure the Australian Government knows that they cant keep leaving carers behind. Sign the petition and help us reach even more people by sharing with your friends and family. http://www.caringfairly.org.au/take-/increase-carer-payment

13.01.2022 We know its a particularly tricky time for carers right now. If you care for someone with mental ill-health you can reach out to Mind Australias Carer Helpline. You can talk to someone over the phone who has been a carer too, and understands your challenges. They can also help you access supports like counselling and peer support, respite, carer education and support groups. The Carer Helpline 1300 554 660

12.01.2022 The Australian Greens have called on Minister Ruston to extend the COVID-19 supplement payment to disabled people receiving the disability support pension and t...o carers who receive the carer support payment. On Monday we saw government acknowledge they had left students on Youth Allowance, AuStudy and ABStudy out of their stimulus package and rectify it immediately. They need to do the same with the DSP and the carers support payment," said Greens disability spokesperson Senator Jordon Steele-John.

12.01.2022 Its great that students on Youth Allowance, Abstudy and Austudy will now get the extra $550 coronavirus supplement. But what about people living on the Disabil...ity Support Pension or Carer Payment? More than 50 per cent of people with disability already live on or below the poverty line. Any many are facing additional costs as a result of the impact of the virus. We have to make sure everyone gets what they need. 10.01.2022 Carers cant give any more. We cant be asked to do more with less as we already do. Please help us to help the ones we care for. Stand with unpaid carers. Sign the petition for an increase to the Carer Payment today. http://www.caringfairly.org.au/take-/increase-carer-payment

10.01.2022 One in 10 young people provide care and support to a family member or friend. Due to their caring roles, young carers typically have lower levels of educational attainment, which can have lifelong consequences for their employment. It’s essential that young carers are given the right level of support to ensure that they have the same education and employment prospects as everyone else. #Carers2020 #WhyWeCare [Image of text: 1 in 10 Australian youths are Young Carers. 10.01.2022 "So, please stop referring to us as hidden carers. We are seen and heard every day. Were not hidden, just conveniently ignored and therein lies the problem," writes Mina Akhtar, a carer from the UK.

09.01.2022 Did you know that over a third of primary carers have a disability? That's twice the rate of non-carers. #internationaldayofpeoplewithdisability #idpd #idpwd [Image description: A white background with a bright pink border. 09.01.2022 "Unpaid carers who look after ill, disabled or frail family members have been left as collateral damage of the coronavirus pandemic..." An article from The Courier today has shared our COVID-19 survey data to highlight the impact the outbreak is having on unpaid carers. Were glad to see this continuing to get the attention it deserves, to help raise awareness and make change for carers. Did you read the article? What did you think? ... https://www.thecourier.com.au//unpaid-carers-suffer-incre/

08.01.2022 Thanks to everyone whos signed our petition to increase the Carer Payment! So far over 650 people have added their name to stand up for carers. Can you help us get to 1000 by sharing the petition with your networks? Sign here: http://www.caringfairly.org.au/take-/increase-carer-payment

08.01.2022 Caring Fairly are in the news! Were so thrilled to see carers experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic covered by The Age today. This is a great opportunity to grow awareness of how carers are being impacted by the pandemic and to support our ongoing advocacy to #RaiseTheCarerPayment. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with us by taking the COVID-19 survey. This has been a crucial step in putting carers rights on the agenda. Read the story here: https://www.theage.com.au//we-re-so-exhausted-cracks-show-

06.01.2022 The carer payment has not changed since COVID19, yet the price of food and groceries has risen. My caring role has increased as my daughter has not been able to access her regular services. Despite the crucial role carers have played throughout the pandemic, the government continues to leave them behind. Help us change this. Sign the petition: http://www.caringfairly.org.au/take-/increase-carer-payment

05.01.2022 The results are in! Unpaid carers across Australia are being significantly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, across all areas of their lives. Our survey results show that carers are spending more time on care, are facing higher living costs and are experiencing much more stress in their roles as carers. These results will be really important as we continue to advocate for a government response to COVID-19 that supports unpaid carers. Well be sharing results and stories from carers who took the survey over the next few weeks. So watch this space! In the meantime you can read the summary report here: http://www.caringfairly.org.au/covid-19-carer-survey-results

05.01.2022 Were disappointed that the Carer Payment has been excluded from the governments recently announced Coronavirus Supplement and will not see the $550 per fortnight increase. Carers are likely to face growing economic hardship, increased costs and greater caring responsibilities during this crisis and risk being pushed into poverty. They must receive government support during this time, starting with an increase of the carer payment by $550 per fortnight in line with increases of other social security payments. Caring Fairly also strongly supports calls for an increase to the Disability Support Pension and the Age Pension.

05.01.2022 It's great to see continued calls for the Carer Payment and Disability Support Payment to be included in increases to income support payments. We also strongly support calls for this increase to be permanent. Current rates of these payments are too low, keeping people below the poverty line and in financial hardship. You can sign this petition using the link below, and please consider sharing. https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_list?id=EN2087

05.01.2022 Were thinking of all the carers in Melbourne right now who have had to go back into stage 3 lockdown. We know the last lockdown period was challenging for many with caring roles and recognise this one may be hard too. For those of you who know carers, reach out and offer support where you can, even if its from a distance. Isolation was a major issue raised by many carers in our COVID-19 survey and we can all do our part in helping to ease this for people in our communities. If youre a carer located in Victoria well post some links in the comments to resources that you may be able to access to help you through this time. Wed also love it if our community members have resources or tips to share with one another - feel free to pop them in the comments too.

04.01.2022 Today Scott Morrison announced the extension of the coronavirus supplement and the Carer Payment was again excluded. Were extremely disappointed that the Australian Government continues to overlook the real financial needs of carers in this crisis. The evidence is clear and carers are being significantly impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. Its clear that the government will not support carers without significant community pressure. We need you to join us in calling for the ...Carer Payment to be increased today. If youve already signed you can help us reach more people by sharing the petition with your networks. We all need to come together and let the Australian Government know that carers cannot continue to be left behind. https://actionnetwork.org/petit/increase-the-carer-payment/ Were also disappointed that the increased rate of JobSeeker has now been brought back down, pushing it below the poverty line. A number of carers and the people they support rely on these payments to get by.

04.01.2022 Are you a carer currently receiving the Carer Payment, whos been financially impacted by COVID-19? We want to share your story! Email [email protected] if this sounds like you. Or send us message on Facebook.

04.01.2022 Today the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System released its final report. We're pleased to see the promotion of the crucial role of carers and families and the necessity for their genuine inclusion as partners in the mental health system. We welcome the report’s specific recommendations around developing system wide involvement of family members and carers and the Commission’s acknowledgement of the substantial contributions carers make to supporting people with mental-ill health. This is a once in a generation opportunity for transforming Victoria’s Mental Health system and we're glad that carers and families have been recognised. 03.01.2022 An important reminder that we all have a role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Staying home can save lives.

02.01.2022 A great resource from Beyond Blue with tips for how you can cope with the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19).

02.01.2022 Today is International Women's Day! We want to celebrate and bring attention to the amazing women and girls who are unpaid carers. Women and girls provide the majority of unpaid care support. This work is crucial but it also impacts on their capacity to engage in paid work and contributes to the gender pay gap. It can also means they have less time to engage in other goals and spend time with friends and family. That's why focussing on the gendered nature of unpaid care is a ...key focus of the Caring Fairly Campaign. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2021 [Image description: A younger woman holding the hand of an older woman walking with a walking stick. Behind them are flowering trees. Text on the image says: over 70% of primary carers are women. At the bottom of the image a splash of pink has text on it that says: International Women's Day 8 March]
