22.01.2022 Wake up call: Aussie teens are losing out on a good night's sleep due to energy drinks. Rethink Sugary Drink partners, including the Australian Dental Association, are calling for restrictions around the sale and marketing of energy drinks to young people. Some energy drinks contain up to 21 teaspoons of sugar and as much caffeine as two cups of instant coffee. Getting enough sleep is not only important for teenagers’ mental and physical health development; poor sleep habits are also a risk factor for overweight and obesity. Energy drinks are also a major contributing factor to tooth decay and tooth erosion. #Rethinksugarydrink http://www.rethinksugarydrink.org.au//aussie-teens-losing-

21.01.2022 Your regular dentist may only be available for urgent and emergency treatment during this period where many businesses are limiting their services. It's important to keep looking after your oral and general health by having a healthy diet, drinking lots of water and regularly brushing and flossing your teeth to avoid dental problems. If you need urgent dental treatment and your regular dentist is closed, we have listed dental practices that are currently open, or if eligible for public services, contact your local community health clinic. https://adavb.org/oral-health/emergency-dental-care

21.01.2022 Today is World Cavity-Free Future Day. Globally, nearly 100% of adults have tooth decay. Oral disease affects 3.9 billion people worldwide, with untreated tooth decay affecting almost half of the world’s population. This year's #WCFFD focus is on tooth decay as a condition that all ages and generations battle. 20.01.2022 With Aussies spending more time at home this year, our lifestyles are changing in a way that can have a lasting impact on our health. This week (17 23 August) is Healthy Bones Action Week, and we’re supporting the initiative by calling on all Australians to integrate 3 simple steps to build and maintain strong and healthy bones - eating calcium-rich tooth friendly foods like unsweetened dairy; doing regular weight-bearing exercise; and enjoying safe levels of sunshine for Vitamin D. 18.01.2022 A great gift idea for your little tigers!

16.01.2022 New research carried out by Deakin University and VicHealth has found that toddler milks, yoghurts and snacks can contain harmful levels of sugar. Compared to unflavoured cow's milk, toddler milk formulas cost four times as much per serve and add 60 teaspoons or 2.5kg of sugar to their diets if consumed every day for a month. Where possible, it’s best to avoid these products and choose appropriately prepared whole foods and drinks to support good oral and general health. https://9now.nine.com.au//53a4ff85-ce32-4353-98a1-0956c843

15.01.2022 How much sugar is hiding in your shopping trolley? One in three kids aged 5-6 years have decay in their baby teeth and only half of us are brushing our teeth twice a day, so being careful about how much sugar we’re consuming is more important than ever. Sugar isn’t just in sweet food and drinks, it’s in savoury items too. Look out for added sugars on ingredient lists, avoid items where sugar is near the top of the ingredient list and choose items that have less than 15g of sugar per 100g serving. #dentalhealthweek
