23.01.2022 Well this week our Carinya community celebrated our residents for Seniors Week and boy did we celebrate. The theme for the week was Boots, Bling and Hats. The week began with a High Tea and Centsale then we had an Art Exhibition showcasing some residents art works and some community contributors, Non-Olympic games, musical entertainment and a picnic in the garden. A huge thank you to all who took part in helping make the week a success.

23.01.2022 Another busy but fun week was had by all - Don who resides with us was our guest speaker for Book Club this week and hed asked to create the full effect for the residents by having lights off in the activities room and lions roaring thanks to YouTube - a great way to introduce his book - the true story of his relationship with a lioness cub.

22.01.2022 Hello Carinya Community Today is Aged Care Employee Day, the nations biggest ever tribute to the age services workforce. The theme this year is THANKS FOR CARING.... The challenges and tasks that my team face on a daily basis with a can-do basis shows how committed to our residents they are. This year has presented so many unique challenges and these have been met with the required determination and grit. The number of random acts of kindness that are shown every single day with no expectation of reward or acknowledgement reflect the community that we have. Today is one point in time to acknowledge formally all of those hard working and dedicated people that come together to make us what we are Carinya. My thanks and appreciation go out to all my team members and I implore family or visitors to take this opportunity to say thanks to those that look after our residents your loved ones. David Osborne Chief Executive Officer

07.01.2022 Hello Carinya Community The Qld Government has issued the latest Aged Care Direction #10. There are no significant changes from earlier versions to visitors to our Home and also residents being able to leave for the attached reasons.... Changes include workforce management processes and also changes for Home that are in restricted zones. Thankfully Carinya is not in a restricted zone and it is hoped this will be the case moving forward. In regards to our ongoing preparations for any outbreak, planning continues and we fine tune our plans from learnings from other providers and also from changes required by the State and Federal Governments. The Home has and continues to ensure all our staff receive training in the use of PPE that would be required in the case of an outbreak. This is ongoing and forms part of our critical training including hand hygiene and infection control procedures. Carinya maintains a supply of PPE that is considered sufficient for the first days of an outbreak until supplies are received from the National Stockpile. Workforce planning in terms of being able to address significant shortages in the case of an outbreak is ongoing and forms part of planning and scenarios of how this will be best addressed. Options include use of agency staff, changes to shifts, allocation of staff to assist in areas that is not their usual role and other initiatives to attempt to provide the best level of care with what resources are available at the time. We are expecting an Infection Control spot audit by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission as they check the preparedness of all aged care providers in Australia. Thank you again for maintaining connections with your loved ones this is appreciated. Regards David Osborne Chief Executive Officer https://www.qld.gov.au//current-status/public-he/aged-care
