19.01.2022 What is the reason for Independent Living Units (ILU's) Retirement Villages have accommodation of Independent living units, offering one-, two- or three-bedroom accommodation, in a village environment, for older people who are actively independent and able to care for themselves. Whilst most Retirement Villages aim to have residents living as independently as possible, they can come with added benefits such as in-house external maintenance, access to maintenance resources, co...mmunity programs and the possibility of meeting more like minded people. All though you can live independently you may need some assistance. First you need an (A.C.A.S) Aged Care Assessment completed, talk to your doctor about having this assessment completed by the ACAT It will give the level of extra care you may require. Aged care assessment team (ACAT) The Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) helps the elderly, and their carers determine what kind of support will best meet their needs when they are struggling in their current living situation. The team, often comprising a doctor, nurse, social worker, and occupational therapist, will ask the client a series of questions to determine the best care options available, either at home or in a residential aged care home. Home Care Packages (HCP) There are four levels of packages which are funded by the Australian Government. All care packages are individually planned and coordinated to help older people to remain living in their own homes. Each level includes the Dementia Supplement for people with dementia and the Veterans’ Supplement for veterans with an accepted mental health condition. Level 1 supports people with basic care needs. Level 2 supports people with low care needs (formerly Community Aged Care Packages). Level 3 supports people with intermediate care needs. Level 4 supports people with high care needs (formerly Extended Aged Care at Home and Extended Aged Care at Home Dementia packages). Respite care These services are designed to give carers a break from their caring role and can be arranged for planned breaks, regular weekly breaks, short holidays, or emergencies. Services are available within the person's home, in a day care centre or in a residential care facility.

03.01.2022 Keeping Social in Aged Care Just because you now live in aged care doesn’t mean you’re excluded from your social events, functions and holidays! So many times we hear the phrase once you’re in aged care you never leave. In some instances this is very true however, Carinya encourages all residents to attend events, functions and social gatherings (when COVID safe) when possible. Let us know and we will help you get ready for that special outing.... We love to hear the great stories our residents come back with, not to mention keeping socially active is great for resident’s mental health. So can a resident have a weekend away without being financially penalised? Yes, residents are eligible to have 52 nights of social leave a year without impacting their funding. That equates to an overnight stay every weekend if you choose. So it’s time to start looking at Aged Care as a safe and secure home, where you can still enjoy your social life rather than a one way door. For more information on what Carinya can offer you please contact Julie Damon 03 5655 2125

02.01.2022 NETWORKING WITHIN AGED CARE Gippsland Region Aged Care Enterprise (Grace) Ltd is a company that has been set up as a support for aged care facilities throughout the Gippsland area. Carinya is proudly a founding member of Grace Ltd alongside Woorayl Lodge in Leongatha and Prom Country Aged Care in Foster. ... Grace Ltd. initially was an avenue for facilities to communicate and support one another and align suppliers through bulk buying. Bench marking of finances and clinical indicators is an activity that provides valuable insight into the strengths and weaknesses of each individual facility. This gives us all an opportunity to improve and learn from one another to ensure Gippsland can be a preferred and leading provider of aged services. Grace Ltd is in the process of developing a strategic plan to ensure each facility can get the best value moving forward. Ideally Grace Ltd will start to provide services to the member facilities that cannot be sourced individually. Administration duties such as policy will be aligned to save money across the members. Once the strategic plan has been finalised the action plan will be passed through each facilities board. Grace Ltd will then move forward into the planning stage and advance further with supporting facilities throughout Gippsland. If you require more information regarding GRACE, please contact [email protected] to direct your enquiry.
