25.01.2022 F E E L S ..... to all the beautiful souls who needed a little reminder today .... I gotcha xx . . .

25.01.2022 Nutritious pancakes. So this is a thing, yeah? Just in case you have been living under a rock, my plate-sized pancakes are a big hit amongst my clients. The recipe calls for just six ingredients and is quick, simple, macro-balanced and bloody delicious. Make a big batch for the week and change it up with different toppings. Please tag me in your pics - I’d love to see your topping combos. Recipe via the link in my bio.

25.01.2022 Yesterdays Charcoal Waffle w/ Zataar beet hummus , eggs and smoked salmon @wildcanaryeat ... we were planning on a little bush walk and then brunch ... but the weather in Brisbane yesterday dictated otherwise, So I guess food and French ros was all we could do What a shame

24.01.2022 Until tomorrow @leahcar88

24.01.2022 I’ve got so much love so healthy , simple whole foods There is so much of my food that doesn’t make it to socials that I wish I had the time (and social media patience ) to post This 3 egg omelette was breakfast a few weeks back and is loaded with greens fresh from our garden we are growing gangbusta greens atm ... I’ve got Asian veggies ; beet leaves ; rocket ; Tuscan kale , funky lettuce and herbs galore! Tbh I’m not a huge fan of kale and now have a crap-tonne to use so apart from the obvious will welcome any a bit left of centre ideas to use it x

22.01.2022 EATING PRE & POST-WORKOUT So, lovely peeps. I often get asked about this topic: when to eat carbs, protein portions post-workout, calories the list goes on! How much you need will vary depending on your unique body AND the type of exercise you do. Here's what I do. ... PRE-WORKOUT Hydration Ensure you are hydrated! If I'm working out first thing, I’ll have a glass or two of water before I train and then continue with this usually during the workout unless I am running. With this QLD heat I can highly recommend adding some electrolyte tabs to your water. Food I'll usually have a banana around 30 mins beforehand to fuel my workout. This really varies from person to person, however I personally train better with some food in my gut. For everyone else - if you are doing around 30 mins of cardio - you may not need to eat. However, if you are pushing 40+ mins of cardio I can highly recommend eating some form of easily digested carb BEFORE you train. If you are doing weights or a functional work out, again, I’d eat. Longer endurance stuff? Maybe some banana and nut-butter on a piece of GF toast about 30-40 mins beforehand. POST-WORKOUT Protein is essential here. Aim to get it in within 20 mins after your workout as this will help repair muscles faster, giving you more gains. On a weekday morning, I usually go for a smoothie with a good quality complete vegan protein powder (see my post from Monday), like Designer Physique. Then I follow up with an actual breakfast and hour or so later - this is usually eggs, veg and some quality carbs. If I've done strength training or gone for a longer run I will most certainly have the smoothie AND breakfast. For something less intensive like a walk (which I also do some mornings) I might find a really well balanced smoothie is enough to get me through. It’s really a matter of listening to what my body NEEDS - if she needs more food, she gets more food Personalised advice is always best, especially if you're training for an event. Book a consultation with a JCN team member or myself via the link in my bio if you want to get into this space. x

21.01.2022 H E L L O W I N T E R BREAKFASTS! Today I made a banana buckwheat crepe and stuffed it with warmed berries , tahini and some @mindfulfoods cocoa crunchy goodness!!! Oh how smoothie days are starting to evade ....

21.01.2022 How to eat with C O L O U R. Take a look at my feed, and it’s obvious I LOVE colour. Not just because it's pretty or because we eat with our eyes first (even though it does, and we do). But because eating a rainbow of colour in each meal is awesome for your health too. When you choose to include a variety of colours with each meal you consume, you majorly up your intake of vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants. It’s so easy to get stuck in a two-colour rut and just have the same fruits and veggies on repeat. So if you want to really up the ante and get in some more colour, try my tips.

21.01.2022 So true! Have a read

20.01.2022 Here's another FRITTATA recipe, because I know you love ‘em! This is an easy peasy sweet potato frittata that gives you all the benefits of that gut lovin’ resistant starch when eaten ‘cooled’ the next day. A little educational tip that comes with this recipe: ... Resistant starch is super important for our gut microbiome. It gets its name from ‘starch’ that is ‘resistant’ to digestion and therefore makes its way into the colon for your gut bacteria to feed on. This is a glorious process when your gut microbiome is functioning as it should. BUT, when your little gut bugs are not in sync, or you have overgrowths of yeasts and other pathogenic bacteria, starch can seem problematic to you. The answer here is NOT to give up starch forever to fix your problem but to fix your gut microbiome so that you can tolerate starch in its various forms. Enjoy this frittata and feeding those gut bugs! As always, if this made you raise your eyebrows and you wanna chat more, book a consult via the link in my bio. x

17.01.2022 BRUNCHING and GRAZING PLATTERS.... One of my fave things to do on the weekend . . Everything changes on the weekends food wise for me as Im outta work routine I exercise later, cruise thru my morning and subsequently generally end up having brunch rather than breakfast or lunch ... I would say I eat more intuitively rather than eating at specific allocated times and I get to take the time to really kick back and enjoy the food experience.... lets be honest I enjoy alll...ll my food experiences BUT theres just something different about weekend food These tapas style meals were from @tidewinebar on a gorgeous sunny day right beside the water ... what more could ya ask for!? . Any other recommendations for weekend brunching near the water that I need to know about ? Comment below please See more

17.01.2022 I’m slightly obsessed with shredded cabbage , herbs and GREEN PAPAYA.... #justslighty Here’s why: . . I love adding some form of LIVE element to all my food ... and if this element also happens to aid digestion AND pack an extra nutrient punch then even bloody better!! Rocket is an absolute fave of mine ... but so is green papaya .... . Papaya contains an enzyme called papain - which can help break down tough proteins like those found in meat. Green papaya is especially good for this. . . It has also been suggested in research that green papaya possesses anti-bacterial properties ... especially against E Choli (which we know certain strains of are associated with food poisoning) the unripe seeds have also been shown to help treat parasites and worms . . Green papaya is also a great source of polyphenol compounds that protect against free radical damage (oxidative stress) and is also a great source of Vit C (great for anti- ageing and for antioxidant support) . . Some of the flavonoids in papaya can inhibit and enzyme called COX (long name can’t spell it ) which is pro-inflammatory . . . This is just if you eat it green. If you eat papaya RIPE as well .... that another amazing story See more

15.01.2022 Ahhhh Straddie Flashback to fantastic food memories at my happy place. It's no secret that I LOVE getting away to the beach or the bush rustic-style. Each to their own, but I love being as off the grid as possible when I’m on holz, the less humans the better, if you ask me. One thing I love as much as being away, is prepping and planning my food. It’s a serious thing. I will legit write a menu- we never stick to it, BUT the intention is there and recipes happen nonetheless. ...They’re usually pimped up with a bit of booze-induced motivation.. Give me a camp oven and coals and this is where I really shine. Here I’m making my Oxtial Stew. This recipe is an adaption of something my Mumsie used to cook us as kids. Back then, oxtail was poor man's food, as were lamb shanks and beef cheeks, but not these days. Still, I love them nonetheless and am happy to be using a more ‘nose to tail’ approach with some of my cooking. If you want this recipe head to the link in my bio! Tell me lovely people, what’s your food favourite food memory?

11.01.2022 Can I get a for all my girlies that can relate . . For those of you not that familiar with your reproductive cycle your luteal phase is that (usually) 2 week gap from ovulation through to when you get you period. If your not sure when / if you ovulate - GURL we have got some work to do!! But for those of you who are familiar with your luteal phase AND the potential associated PMS symptoms that may be part of that ... this post is for YOU. Now , dont get me wr...ong - a small amount of PMS is expected with your period cycle in the 1-2 days leading up to it BUT what I see all too commonly is that 2 week stretch turn into a shit -show of batshit crazy emotions ; anxiety ; depression ; low motivation ; fatigue ; swollen sore boobs ; weight gain and fluid retention. NOT fun at all The good news is that this is all totally treatable AND manageable with the right dietary, nutritional and lifestyle Interventions and personally I love treating this area for you ladies! Here are a few reasons your luteal phase may be turning you into a nutter: . . Oestrogen issues (quite possibly my all time fave area) - this is a massive driver for your PMS. Understanding your oestrogen and how she behaves is paramount for ALL WOMEN Anxiety , lugging thyroid , stubborn weight (tummy thighs and backs of your arms) are just some of the signs that this area may need work. . Poor phase I and Phase II liver clearance of your hormones. Please note that this includes your stress hormones . Stress do you feel overwhelmed and struggle to wind down ? YES ? well your luteal phase is impacted . Androgen issues: PCOS or just excess androgens - this will include cyclic acne and skin conditions , male hair growth , insulin issues (hello sugar cravings) . An un-happy GUT. A very overlooked area when it comes to hormone health - if your gut aint happy ladies - your hormones most likely will be either! . COMT , MTFHR , CYP1b1 , CYP1a1 genetic SNPs (there are more SNPs) - these will impact hormones and how they behave for you - especially undertimes of increased stress. . . 10.01.2022 COVID BREAKFASTS .... one of the best things to come out of covid for me so far is enjoying weekend style breakfasts and damn day of the week! AND also eating when I feel hungry NOT when time dictates I should Im a great Intuitive eater .... Im super in touch with what my body needs and when she needs it ... extra protein , more or less carbs , more fibre and more or less veggies and fruits Its a balancing act that is mostly dictated by my hormone cycle AND my current stress sitcho .. .. If you want to learn more about your hormone cycle and the role it is playing in your over all health get in touch and book a consult - theres so much EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW about her body and so much you can learn from working with someone who understands how to get the best out of it xx

08.01.2022 Newsflash: dairy is NOT your only source of calcium. This subject has come up a lot in the clinic of late, due to the fact that I have to remove dairy from people’s diets. Usually it's due to various health reasons or/and actual dairy intolerance. This is sometimes a 'forever' thing and sometimes a 'just for now’ thing. Either way, it raises the question - where do I get my calcium if I’m not consuming dairy? Here are my picks. PLEASE don’t drop the Camembert {that shit... is delicious, don’t waste it} before speaking to a practitioner who knows what’s up. You need to ensure you’re getting enough calcium in your diet or through supplementation if you’re planning to or needing to remove dairy from your diet. Calcium is important for many bodily functions, including building bone mass. Our body needs Vitamin D in order to use calcium effectively, so it's important to get your levels tested through your GP yearly. Hit me up in my DM’s if you have any q’s.

07.01.2022 My platters bring all the foodies to the yard! It’s no secret by now that I can make one EPIC platter when it needs to be done. 07.01.2022 HOW HAPPY DOES YOUR BREAKFAST MAKE YOU? . . . Do you even eat breakfast? Breakfast is THE MOST important meal of the day - I kid you not. If you skip breakfast OR fail to get your macros balanced in a way that works for YOU ... chances are youll be a bit off the rest of the day. Here are some common signs and symptoms that you may experience if youre not on the right breakfast bandwagon:... . . blood sugar imbalances - this includes feeling light headed and shaky . Poor energy throughout the day . Hungry within an hour of eating . the #Hangrys (lack of food associated anger ) . That 3pm slump where youre reaching for coffee or easy carbs like sugar . Insulin associated weight gain overtime (that stubborn belly fat that just wont shift . Poor attention and memory . Insatiable appetite at dinner time . Shitty , agitated or low mood . . PHEW! Who woulda thought allllll of that could be linked to not eating breakfast or not getting it right If you rocked a few of these boxes - give us a holla at the clinic. We are your breakfast and macro-balancing experts Trust me this is an easy fix for most once we understand what your body needs ps. That is Siracha NOT tomato sauce See more

07.01.2022 G U T H E A L T H is so important, folks! Fix that, and a world of opportunities can open up health-wise for you. It’s crazy how many clients come in for one thing, but to achieve that we need to do some {or a lot of} gut work first. Here are a few things I see in clinic that you might not think involve the gut... But it turns out {more often than not} that they do: Hormonal imbalances like PCOS, Endometriosis, sluggish hormones clearance Inability to lose weight ...despite a healthy diet and exercise routine Sluggish or under-active thyroid Low energy or fatigue Skin conditions like acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, rashes Allergies Low Immune function and/or recurrent sickness and infections You get it, right? Most things come back to the gut in some way, shape or form. SO, coming into 2021, why not get your gut in tip top shape? I'm now taking bookings for next year. Book online or call our lovely reception team on 0411 161 730.

07.01.2022 CARROT AND ZUCCHINI LOAF . Save this recipe . .... Ive been experimenting with savoury loaves and muffins of late and have come up with 2 (similar) delicious stables. First up is this little winner! . . Youll need: . 2 x small zucchinis grated 1x Medium carrot grated 1.5 x cups buckwheat flour 1 x cup hemp seeds 1.5 tsp baking powder 3 x eggs 1/4 cup evoo 1/2 cup water 1 tbsp psyllium 1 tbsp fresh diced rosemary 1/4 cup fresh parsley diced 1 tsp fresh sage diced 1 tbsp fresh chives Salt and pepper . . What to do: . Combine all the dry ingredients and the veggies and herbs together in a mixing bowl and mix evenly ... then make a whole in the centre. Add the EVOO and 3 eggs ... and start mixing thru. Now slowly add the water until you get a slightly wet, batter like consistency .. you may need a little more water. Let that sit for about 5 mins so that it all soaks up and add a bit more water if needed. Then pour this into a greased and floured bread tin and pop her In the oven for about an hour at 180* ... it maybe less or more depending on your oven so check it. Mine went a really nice golden brown on top and you could really smell all the herbs floating through the house when she was cooked . . Today Ill be having this toasted with some scrammy eggs and avocado . . Enjoy! Xx See more

06.01.2022 You’ve heard of it, you know you don’t want too much or too little of it, but WTF is cortisol? I’m glad you asked, and coming into 2021, now is a good time to wrap your head around it. Cortisol is THE major game playing hormone made by our adrenal glands, often referred to as our ‘stress’ hormone, mainly because that’s what it is. Cortisol has several really cool roles in our daily function. It: rises as we rise to start our day, known as the cortisol awakening response; ... has a beautiful synergistic relationship with other hormones and our neurotransmitters; plays a HUGE role in blood sugar management, inflammation and autoimmune information; and drops at the end of the day to take a rest so that Melatonin (your sleep hormone) can kick-in, giving you a deep and restful sleep. The body can keep cortisol active or inactive (cortisone), and when this i s functioning correctly, things work well for you. However, when cortisol is under prolonged periods of being constantly ‘activated’ things start to go haywire for this little body of yours. As necessary as it is for your fight or flight mechanism to work, it is also just as necessary for it to be able to ‘deactivate’. Constant stressors such as too much work, environmental triggers and internal inflammation will all eventually negatively impact your cortisol response resulting in one or several of the following: an inability to lose weight despite eating and exercising well; low thyroid function; low energy, fatigue or burnout; sleep disorders, insomnia or that tired-but-wired feeling; stimulant reliance. Sugar and caffeine I’m looking at you! mood issues; blood sugar imbalances, Met X syndrome, insulin resistance; and other hormones issues (high oestrogen, PCOS, HA). The good news? Our brains are responsible for telling our adrenals to make it, so focusing on mindset and implementing stress management strategies can really help. If you feel as though you’re doing this and you’re STILL struggling, perhaps it’s time to have a chat. She’s a complicated little area, and it can take a bit of time to sort her out. Booking via the link in my bio. x

05.01.2022 HOME MADE CHIPS .... seriously if youre not doing this... why not? . . This is such a simple process and you remove any residual gluten, refined processed oils and a host of other things that quite frankly dont belong on chips. Not to mention - you can season and spice them up however you damn well please. I made these last night to go with pan fried salmon and they didnt even make it to the plate .... . . Youll need: A few potatoes cut into wedges Olive oil @cobramestate potato starch / tapioca flour fresh rosemary - cut up (stalk removed - obvs) Salt Pop the wedges into a bowl and cover them in olive oil , rosemary and salt ... then pop in a bit of the potato starch or tapioca flour and mix this through with your hand - this flour part is optional BUT it does help get a crunchy chip. Spread them out on a tray and pop them in an 180* oven until they are chips. You want them golden and crunchy . . They are delish and youre not limited to just white potatoes - use purple or orange sweet potatoes; parsnips ; carrots and even beets if you want..... . . Enjoy x

03.01.2022 HOW HAPPY DOES YOUR BREAKFAST MAKE YOU? . . . Do you even eat breakfast? Breakfast is THE MOST important meal of the day - I kid you not. If you skip breakfast OR fail to get your macros balanced in a way that works for YOU ... chances are youll be a bit off the rest of the day. Here are some common signs and symptoms that you may experience if youre not on the right breakfast bandwagon: .... . blood sugar imbalances - this includes feeling light headed and shaky . 03.01.2022 Im slightly obsessed with shredded cabbage , herbs and GREEN PAPAYA.... #justslighty Heres why: . Green papaya is especially good for this. . . It has also been suggested in research that green papaya possesses anti-bacterial properties ... especially against E Choli (which we know certain strains of are associated with food poisoning) the unripe seeds have also been shown to help treat parasites and worms . . Green papaya is also a great source of polyphenol compounds that protect against free radical damage (oxidative stress) and is also a great source of Vit C (great for anti- ageing and for antioxidant support) . . Some of the flavonoids in papaya can inhibit and enzyme called COX (long name cant spell it ) which is pro-inflammatory . . . This is just if you eat it green. If you eat papaya RIPE as well .... that another amazing story See more

01.01.2022 CARROT AND ZUCCHINI LOAF . Save this recipe . .... I’ve been experimenting with savoury loaves and muffins of late and have come up with 2 (similar) delicious stables. First up is this little winner! . . You’ll need: . 2 x small zucchini’s grated 1x Medium carrot grated 1.5 x cups buckwheat flour 1 x cup hemp seeds 1.5 tsp baking powder 3 x eggs 1/4 cup evoo 1/2 cup water 1 tbsp psyllium 1 tbsp fresh diced rosemary 1/4 cup fresh parsley diced 1 tsp fresh sage diced 1 tbsp fresh chives Salt and pepper . Mine went a really nice golden brown on top and you could really smell all the herbs floating through the house when she was cooked . . Today I’ll be having this toasted with some scrammy eggs and avocado . . Enjoy! Xx See more
