24.01.2022 ~ PERINATAL MENTAL HEALTH WEEK: 8-14 NOVEMBER 2020 ~ >Grief and Loss< Self-compassion can provide temporary relief to the unbearable reality of pregnancy loss... or infant death. You are not alone many many women have experienced perinatal loss across centuries, across borders and from all walks of life. They know your pain. At times when you are struggling or hurting, if can be helpful to remind yourself of this that you are not alone. If you can, try placing your hand on your heart (or caress/cradle your face) (and notice the warmth of your hand. And notice how soothing that feels and notice that your brain instantly responds to that sensory data -& bypasses your thinking brain and notice it is still soothing even if it’s not a hug from someone else). And while aware of your situation, acknowledge: This is a moment of suffering Suffering is part of life So, may I be kind to myself in this moment May I give myself the compassion I need. (Adapted from Kristen Neff and Julie King). For peer support: The Pink Elephants Support Network, SANDS or Bears Of Hope Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support For professional support: Centre for Perinatal Psychology locations around Australia and via Telehealth services. If you need support, reach out, services are available We’re here, we’re listening. #pmhw2020 #perinatalmentalhealth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness

23.01.2022 Gotta love a girl gang get together! Carla @perinatal_child_family_hub and I had the absolute pleasure of spending time today with the lovely Gillian and Hayley... from @birth.hq chatting about all things pregnancy and baby! As well as face time face groups, they have put together an awesome online antenatal course that anyone, anywhere can access for 12mths at your own pace! How good is that?! #pregnancysupport #antenatalclasses #midwives #perinatalmentalhealth #perinatal See more

20.01.2022 And in the same week that we opened the hub last year, we have completed the extension (well almost just a few little bits to go before we can use it) . We are so happy with how the new group room and extra consult room has turned out, and some additions in the tea room. So grateful for my amazing husband again who does so much behind the scenes work in the hub . Can’t wait for everyone to check out the new space and to start our groups

20.01.2022 For so many the holidays can be a difficult and overwhelming time. You may not be able to see loved ones this year, you may be grieving, or you may be struggling to juggle the demands of the holidays and children just to name a few. Here’s some little tips that may help reduce some of the stress of the holidays.

20.01.2022 We also want to acknowledge the additional pressures that families have faced this year going through pregnancy and having a baby during a pandemic.

18.01.2022 A great little video on good enough parenting and managing expectations of parenthood.

17.01.2022 This week is Perinatal Mental Health week and I wanted to start the week off by talking about PREGNANCY ANXIETY I was blessed to be able to focus my Masters research on this and have it published. It’s an area I am very passionate about, because anxiety during the antenatal period is not talked about as much as during the postnatal period (although this is improving). ... so why is pregnancy anxiety not talked about as widely? There may be a number of reasons....... so much of the focus for many mums and families is on the birth and postnatal period, which are of course important, but sometimes it means less focus is placed on the many changes and transitions that occur emotionally during pregnancy. it is perfectly normal to have worries during pregnancy, but sometimes if these worries feel a bit bigger than usual, they are often dismissed as that’s just the pregnancy hormones. for some women they may find that they worry in excess about things specially related to their pregnancy such as fears something may be wrong with their baby, worry that something will go wrong, worry about changes in their relationships, and worry about their changing bodies and body image and so forth. some of the symptoms that may indicate the presence of anxiety can also be symptoms or pregnancy such as tiredness, nausea, loss of energy and motivation. So sometimes it can be tricky to tell them apart. this is one of the difficulties with some of the screeners that are used to try to pick up anxiety symptoms, there’s an overlap in anxiety symptoms and pregnancy symptoms. some women who later experience postnatal anxiety, are able to identify that they had experienced many of the anxiety feelings during pregnancy. so if you are concerned about worries or anxiety that you may be feeling during your pregnancy please reach out for help or talk to someone close to you. Here at the PCF Hub we provide individual support for mums and their partners and will also be looking at running some GROUPS specifically focused on emotional well-being during pregnancy. Please email us at [email protected] for more information if you are interested.

15.01.2022 In today’s post for Perinatal Mental Health week we wanted to take the time to acknowledge that as well as mums postnatally, perinatal depression and anxiety can also effect mums during pregnancy, dads and non-birth parents. Having a baby is a time of many changes and transitions, roles and identity and sleep deprivation, all of which can impact a person’s mental health. Thanks to www.panda.org.au for sharing
