25.01.2022 Anhata Chakra - "unstuck". LOCATION : Located central chest in line with the heart ASSOCIATIONS : Unconditional love, Free will, Healing, Patience, Joy, Compassion, Relationships... "I can accept things as they are and I live in balance, within myself and with the world around me." How often are we stuck - in love, in relationships, in ourselves? One of the most amazing feelings in meditation and in Yoga is to work on our Heart Chakra. the warm feeling you get and expansiveness when you open your Heart is like nothing else. I'm smiling just thinking of it now. Ananda was developed with this in mind. To awaken and stimulate the process of Heart opening. A powerful Peppermint top note, combined with Sweet Basil, Ylang Ylang and a subtle Jasmine - follows through to provide the opening and energy that comes with this chakra. #meditation #yogi #love #namaste #health #wellness #yogalife #yogalove #yogainspiration #mindfulness #peace #adrenals #hormones #thyroid #stress #happiness #essentialoils #skin #tighten #lymphatics #cellulite

25.01.2022 FRANKINCENSE Boswellia carteri The 3rd ancient ingredient in the NIRVTA range. Used since antiquity as an incense in India, China and in the west by the Catholic Church. In ancient Egypt it was used in rejuvenating face masks, cosmetics and perfumes. It has been used medicinally in the east and west for a wide range of conditions including syphilis, rheumatism, respiratory and urinary tract infections, skin diseases, as well as digestive and nervous complaints. The shrub pro...duces natural oleo gum resin which is collected by making incisions into the bark: at first, a milky-white liquid appears which then solidifies into tear-shaped amber to orange-brown lumps between the size of a pea and walnut. Apart from it's spiritual benefits, I have chosen Frankincense in this blend for it's benefits with Anxiety, nervous tension and stress-related conditions. ‘Frankincense has, among its physical properties, the ability to slow down and deepen the breath which is very conducive to prayer and meditation.’ (Lawless, Julia). NIRVTA comes in a 250ml paraben free lotion and a 100ml Yoga Oil. Applied to the Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus) prior to meditation or Yoga to assist in cleansing and opening. 24.01.2022 I often see very low Vit D levels in women and they have been told they have nothing wrong with their pathology levels. You want to aim for levels around 75 and higher for those with immune issues or autoimmune conditions. Sadly we can only get 1,000IU tablets retail and that means people could be taking 5-10 capsules a day. You can get a script for high dose Vit D from your doctors though

24.01.2022 HAIR LOSS Did you know that Hair Loss can be due to poor Thyroid function? Thyroid is a master controller for growth within the body.... Hair, Skin, Nails, Babies... all need Thyroid hormones working to adequately grow. A common area for hair loss in low Thyroid persons is the outer third of your eyebrows! Other causes could be: 1) Low Progesterone (more common than you think and linked to Stress) 2) Iron deficiency (again very common and linked to poor digestion) If you need help working out the drivers for your poor hair condition, then hit me up. #hair #haircare #alopecia #hairlosssolution #hairlosshelp #beauty #hashimotos #autoimmune #hypothyroidism #holistic #health #metabolism

23.01.2022 HEALTHY AGEING Photoprotection is essential in maintaining skin health for more than one reason, namely as an important public health measure and first-line defence in preventing skin cancer. Much earlier in the process of carcinogenesis, where preventive medicine finds its place, over exposure to UVR initiates several detrimental processes, including oxidative stress through the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), inflammation, immunosuppression, photo-aging, and DN...A damage, all of which produce visible signs of impaired skin health. In fact, UVR is the leading cause of oxidative stress in the skin and thus a major risk factor for the development of various skin diseases, wrinkling, scaling, dryness, hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation. Undoubtedly, sunscreens are essential in providing topical photoprotection; nevertheless, there are known limitations, such as inadequate use, short half-life on the skin, a lack of systemic efficacy, and potential side effects. As photoprotection can be topical and systemic, combining the two offers an ideal option to maximise beneficial long-term effects. Many botanical and nutritional ingredients - such as green tea, grape seed, turmeric and rosemary (plus a bunch more) - can be used orally and/or topically to complement topical sunscreens, thereby providing an additional layer of protection from harmful environmental influences that lead not only to premature skin ageing, but also poor skin health. Do you want to Age Well? There are many things we can do naturally to support this. 22.01.2022 SKIN CONFIDENCE Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory condition of the integumentary system. It presents with redness, inflammation and bacterial pustules. The appearance of acne can cause psychosocial effects, such as low self-esteem, social withdrawal and depression.... However, by addressing the individual in a wholistic manner, internally and externally, we can begin to reduce the appearance of acne and improve psychosocial wellbeing. Hormone imbalance are major drivers for Acne conditions, however often Diet can be overlooked, with major contributors being Diary and Gluten, as well as excessive Sugar consumption. 22.01.2022 GUT BRAIN CONNECTION - MENTAL HEALTH It has always been understood that the health of the body affects mental wellbeing, but recent developments in understanding the role of the gut microbiome in mental health have essentially created a whole new field of enquiry. It also opens up a whole new opportunity for potential relief for people suffering from mental health concerns or diminished mental performance. Several pieces of research in the last year lend weight to the importa...nce of the microbiome in mental health. One study found clear support for the link between depression, quality of life and the microbiome showing that gut bacteria are associated with mental health. The study found the potential of the gut microbiome to produce a dopamine-related substance was strongly associated with quality of life. Dopamine is a dominant neurotransmitter involved in depression. Two groups of bacteria, Coprococcus and Dialister were also found to be depleted in people with depression and positively associated with quality of life scores. Coprococcus is involved in making an anti-inflammatory substance called butyrate, and other studies have suggested that inflammation may be linked to depression. Microbiome profiling is an integral component of understanding the makeup of the gut and because of the direct association to the brain it can also be important in addressing mental health and wellness. Once understood through profiling, gut health can potentially be addressed and any possible negative consequences on mental health ameliorated. Do you need help to profile your microbiome and help support mental health? https://www.inner-alchemy.com.au/naturopathy-bookings #anxiety #mentalhealth #health #selfcare #selflove #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters #mindfulness #mentalhealthawareness #awareness #healing #healthy #depressed

22.01.2022 IMMUNE SYSTEM It’s well known that short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are important for maintaining good gut health and overall health. For example, when it comes to the immune system the SCFAs butyrate, propionate and acetate can suppress inflammation through various mechanisms, help maintain the intestinal cell barrier and even boost production of antimicrobial peptides. Research suggests that SCFAs may also have a role to play when it comes to respiratory infections. When mic...e were fed an inulin-rich, high-fibre diet they had increased levels of circulating SCFAs, which protected them against a severe influenza infection by reducing tissue damage and boosting their adaptive immunity compared to mice fed a fibre-poor diet. Additionally, a recent human study of stem cell transplant recipients observed that patients with a higher abundance of butyrate-producing bacteria were five-fold less likely to develop a viral lower respiratory tract infection. Think about the gut this flu season Although there is still much to learn about all the ways the gut microbiome interacts with our immune system and influences respiratory infection, there is increasing evidence that a healthy gut microbiome may help improve immunity and the body’s response to infection. This flu season, as you are helping your patients boost their immunity, make sure to think about helping them improve their gut microbiome as well. The easiest way to do this is through a healthy diet consisting of a diverse range of whole grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits, nuts and seeds! https://www.inner-alchemy.com.au//foods-herbs-for-immune-s #cold #health #sick #natural #cough #medicine #wellness #immunity #healthy #winter #healthylife

22.01.2022 HOW TO INCREASE GOOD BACTERIA Everyone should ensure sufficient prebiotic intake to support a diverse microbiome, with a focus on increasing resistant starch and/or pectin sources. Resistant starch is found in foods such as barley, oats, legumes, whole beans and cashews. You can also encourage clients to create additional resistant starch in pasta, rice and potatoes by eating them cooled (overnight) in items such as pasta, rice or potato salads. ... The role of RS in gut disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is still unclear. Debate exists on whether RS produces symptoms in those who are sensitive to fermentable fibres. Inconsistencies are likely due to the individual uniqueness of each person’s gut microbiome. Production of butyrate from RS sources requires a cooperative partnership between specific bacteria in the gut microbiome. RS degrading bacteria provide intermediate products for butyrate producing bacteria. For example, two of the species highlighted as Important Species in the Microba report Ruminococcus_E_bromii and Agathobacter rectalis are known to be a particularly efficient partnership for the conversion of RS to butyrate. Therefore, a client’s unique microbiome together with their clinical symptoms/history are important to assess when considering RS sources to address low butyrate levels. 22.01.2022 Sleep is essential for the healthy functioning of the immune, hormonal and cardiovascular systems, as well as regulating appetite, metabolic processes and brain function. However, all too often patients present with sleep issues, whether they are having difficulty falling or staying asleep, waking unrefreshed, experiencing circadian disruption exacerbated by excess screen time, or struggling to relax due to restless legs, muscle tension or cramps. In fact, sleep issues affec...t an estimated 33% to 45% of Australian adults. Short-term sleep disruption has been linked with impaired glucose metabolism, elevated cortisol levels, increased hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activation, cognitive impairments and mood issues including anxiety and depression. When poor sleep becomes a chronic issue, it is associated with metabolic abnormalities such as obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as the increased incidence of some cancers. Therefore, it is crucial to support optimal sleep to enhance patients’ vitality and daytime functioning and promote long-term health. Adequate sleep goes beyond sleep length, the quality of sleep is also paramount. Sleep has generally been divided into four stages; rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and three sub-stages of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep, which alternate throughout the night in roughly 90 minute cycles. Slow wave sleep (SWS), the deepest stage of NREM sleep, is characterised by delta waves and is essential for memory consolidation and neuronal plasticity, as well as glucose metabolism. Sleep also cleanses the brain, clearing potentially harmful substances and inflammatory by-products including beta-amyloid protein via the glymphatic system. Clinically, patients who report waking unrefreshed may have disruptions to these essential NREM cycles, particularly SWS. 19.01.2022 CEDAR WOOD Cedrus atlantica The final essential oil in the NIRVTA range is one of my favourite woody essential oils. Native to the Atlas mountains of Algeria; the oil is mainly produced in Morocco. It kind of looks like a Christmas Tree?... Did you know Aromatic gums and oils such as Cedar and myrrh were employed in the embalming process, the remains of which are still detectable thousands of years later? Traditionally, the oil was used in the East for bronchial and urinary tract infections, as a preservative and as an incense. It is still used as a temple incense by the Tibetans, and is employed in their traditional medicine. In NIRVTA, it synchronises nicely with the Geranium, Bergamot, Frankincense to work with Nervous tension and Stress related conditions. NIRVTA is a blend I have used daily myself this whole year to assist in coping with the stress of the changes occurring in the world, and also to help shift any fear which we hold in our Manipura Chakra (Solar Plexus) If you need extra support with the nervous system and stress, this is a great blend to apply daily. #meditation #yogi #love #namaste #health #wellness #yogalife #yogalove #yogainspiration #mindfulness #peace #adrenals #hormones #thyroid #stress #happiness #essentialoils

19.01.2022 WHICH DIET HELPS REDUCE CHOLESTEROL + MORE? Recently two randomised controlled trials (RCT) published results of gut microbial alterations following a Mediterranean Diet intervention. The first study by Meslier and colleagues was conducted in overweight and obese adults who were otherwise healthy. Participants were either randomised to MedDiet (without energy/calorie reduction) or a controlled diet (regular/usual). The results indicate that a Med Diet:... 1) Increased levels of fibre-degrading species and decreased levels of species associated with inflammation. 2) Increased gene richness (diversity) in those with reduced inflammatory markers. 3)Decreased insulin resistance and stool bile acid levels; these changes were dependant on the baseline levels and variations of the species involved in these pathways. 4) Reduced blood cholesterol levels (total, LDL and HDL). The second study investigated if a one-year Med Diet could alter the gut microbiome and reduce frailty. Ghosh and colleagues profiled 612 non-frail or pre-frail older adults from five European countries. Participants were randomly assigned to either a Med Diet or a controlled diet (regular diet with dietary education). The results found: 1) Med Diet modulated the gut microbiome in a manner associated with reduced frailty, improved cognitive function and reduced inflammation. 2) Adherence to the Med Diet was associated with a reduced loss of microbiome diversity that is often seen in ageing. 3) Inferred analysis found that Med Diet-associated microbial shifts increased the potential to produce SCFAs and lowers the potential to produce BCAAs, secondary bile acids, p-cresol, ethanol and carbon dioxide. Analysis of bacterial clusters found that the bacteria enriched by the Med Diet occupy keystone interaction positions, whereas frailty-associated bacteria are peripheral in the networks. #health #nutrition #healthy #bloodpressure #diabetes #vitamins #wellness #superfood #heart #hearthealth #healthylifestyle #diet #natural #weightloss

18.01.2022 SAFFRON FOR DEPRESSION Due to safety concerns and side effects of many antidepressant medications, herbal psychopharmacology research has increased, and herbal remedies are becoming increasingly popular as alternatives to prescribed medications for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). Of these, accumulating trials reveal positive effects of the spice saffron (Crocus sativus L.) for the treatment of depression. ... Findings from clinical trials conducted to date indicate that saffron supplementation can improve symptoms of depression. 30mg Saffron per day was trialled against anti-depressant drugs, with results indicating that both treatments were similarly effective in reducing depression symptoms. Need super hot showers to warm up? Did you know that your Thyroid gland is your Thermostat.? Yup...In the case of low Thyroid function, Hypothyroidism can slow down metabolism, which can lead to a drop in core body temperature. As such, some people with low levels of thyroid hormones may feel cold all the time or have a low tolerance of the cold. This feeling of coldness can persist, even when in a warm room or during the summer months. 15.01.2022 DO PETS REALLY CAUSE THE RELEASE OF OXYTOCIN? If you feel good around your dog, you may not realise that oxytocin is a huge part of that happiness, but it definitely is. Pets are one of the major sources of oxytocin dogs and cats in particular. Maybe even more so than people, because you get that reliable release, and it is pure, unconditional love, says Dr. Lipman.... Studies show that not only do dog owners who describe their relationships with their dogs as pleasant have higher levels of oxytocin, they also have lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Alternatively, we know that stress can have adverse effects on our bodies and well-being. One of these negative effects that has been documented is that stress has been proven to reduce the release of oxytocin. Now more than ever, getting a pet to cuddle can be the best thing we can do to avoid the impact of stress. Maybe this is why pet sales have gone through the roof? Share your Love and Pet stories.... 15.01.2022 FATIGUE Where does it come from? How did we get here? What should I do to fix it?... I've asked myself these same things before and it was not till I discovered my Thyroid condition did I fully understand that it's not only Adrenal Fatigue that is the culprit. I mean all roads end up back at Adrenals anyway, even the Thyroid part... but the key is to know where to look. Personally I always see Thyroid fatigue the fatigue you have when you cannot get out of bed. The mornings are worse. Afternoon fatigue around 2pm, when you search for coffee, sugar and take a 20min nap... I feel is more about your Adrenals. This is not a hard and fast rule, as we know that Chronic fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is basically all day and night fatigue and is crippling. But, if you notice that you are either tired in morning or Tired in afternoons, then this might give you some clues on where to start looking. The only way out is through - looking for the causes and fixing the drivers. 12.01.2022 DEPRESSION LINKS TO THYROID In a study released in 2011 : The Link between Thyroid Function and Depression (Mirella P. Hage and Sami T. Azar) They stated:... "The relation between thyroid function and depression has long been recognised. Patients with thyroid disorders are more prone to develop depressive symptoms and conversely depression may be accompanied by various subtle thyroid abnormalities. Traditionally, the most commonly documented abnormalities are elevated T4 levels, low T3, elevated rT3, a blunted TSH"... Certainly in my experience, may of my undiagnosed patients present with depression and are on anti-depressants, however the real driver for the depression was the Hashimoto's / Hypothyroid all along. Being on the right medication and also identifying the drivers behind Thyroid and Depression are key to being able to fix the root cause and maybe one day become medication free. Do you suffer from Depression? Have you had your Thyroid tested properly? I can help.

09.01.2022 HEALTHY GUT - HOW THIS IMPACTS WEIGHT Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid (SCFA) produced by gut bacteria that can breakdown (digest) fibre. In the colon, the fibre is fermented by gut bacteria to produce SCFAs. Prebiotics are types of dietary fibre that act as a fuel source for health-promoting gut bacteria, producing beneficial metabolites like SCFAs. Specific prebiotics called resistant starch and pectin have been shown to encourage the production of butyrate.... Insufficient butyrate production could contribute to: - gastrointestinal, - immune or - metabolic issues. Within the colon, butyrate suppresses inflammation maintains the gut barrier function and protects against pathogens. Outside of the gut, low butyrate production can affect appetite and glucose balance with the possible negative impacts on body weight and diabetes risk. Not surprisingly, reduced butyrate levels (and/or reduced bacterial ability to degrade fibre) has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer and insulin resistance. Do you know if you have enough Butyrate in order to help manage your hormonal weight gain symptoms? Book in today and start the process to investigate your hormonal health drivers. https://www.inner-alchemy.com.au/naturopathy-bookings #weightloss #health #diet #nutrition #weightlossjourney #healthylifestyle #food #guthealth #microbiome #nutritionist #digestion

08.01.2022 SWEET Basil (Ocimum basilicum) One of the herbs I grow and eat in abundance is Basil. Apart from it being great on pizza and salads, I have this as a star of my NANDA blend. Basil is also known as 'Joy of the mountain', which ties in nicely as NANDA is all about supreme bliss and JOY.... Basil is obviously well known in culinary circles, but did you know it has amazing medicinal properties too? Widely used in Far Eastern medicine especially in the Ayurvedic tradition, where it is called Tulsi (Holy Basil). It is used for respiratory problems such as bronchitis, coughs, colds, asthma, ’flu and emphysema but is also used as an antidote to poisonous insect or snake bites. (Don't take my word for the snake bites - go straight to emergency!) It sure packs a punch when it comes to the nervous system, with actions such as; Anxiety, depression, fatigue, insomnia, migraine, nervous tension: ‘Oil of Basil is an excellent, indeed perhaps the best, aromatic nerve tonic. It clears the head, relieves intellectual fatigue, and gives the mind strength and clarity.’(Julia Lawless) You can even drink it in a tea and is a great one for the nervous system as a tea tonic. I love how this sweet yet herby flower fragrance binds with the other essential oils in this blend. Being Green and the colour of the Heart Chakra - Anhata, it was a perfect addition to this blend. NANDA comes in 250ml Lotion or a 100ml Yoga Oil, which can be applied directly to the Anhata (heart) chakra. #meditation #yogi #love #namaste #health #wellness #yogalife #yogalove #yogainspiration #mindfulness #peace #adrenals #hormones #thyroid #stress #happiness #essentialoils #heart #joy #bliss

08.01.2022 DIVERSITY IS KEY Low microbial diversity can result in a reduced potential to produce butyrate. A less diverse microbiome may lack enough fibre degrading bacteria capable of producing adequate butyrate levels. For people who also have low microbial diversity and/or inadequate fibre intake, increasing intake of a diverse range of plant-based foods should be encouraged.... Such as Pectin. Pectin is mainly found in fruit, with some of the richest sources coming from kiwifruit, guava, citrus and berries. Appropriate portions of these fruits tend to be well tolerated by individuals with IBS due to their slow fermentability. For people with IBS, you should recommend spacing intake of these fruits by 2-3 hours, especially for those with visceral hypersensitivity and/or symptoms of bloating, gas or distension. 06.01.2022 SEROTONIN Serotonin is a neurotransmitter well known for its ability to promote feelings of happiness and wellbeing, but it also plays a significant role within the gastrointestinal tract. But did you know it appears serotonin may play a crucial role in protecting the gut from pathogen invasion? Essentially, serotonin blocks pathogens from invading colon tissue and causing infection. The amount of pathogen gene suppression that occurred in studies was also relative to the am...ount of serotonin present i.e. when serotonin levels were decreased in the gut, there was an increased chance the pathogen would infect, whereas when serotonin levels increased, the pathogen’s potential to invade cells was reduced. How cool is that!! Increasing consumption of fermentable prebiotic fibres commonly found in an array of plant foods will support the growth of specialised species and ultimately increase the production of SCFA’s which will help to support the production of serotonin - which then acts to protect you against pathogens. Happy eating never was so meaningful. Need help with your GUT? https://www.inner-alchemy.com.au/naturopathy-bookings

06.01.2022 T H E J O U R N E Y Often pain and suffering allows helplessness to fill our days. This bogs us down and stops us seeing through to the end. I'm not saying that we can just vanquish pain easily. For some this is a minute by minute symptom that it no doubt very hard to get rid of.... However, what can the purpose of Pain be, if it was not for something we need to move through? If we think rationally about what Pain is, we can quickly see that whilst Pain is awful, frustrating, insufferable and bad... it actually has a dual purpose. Just like when there is darkness we must have light. Pain tells us something is wrong. Without this we might not know. It's a warning sign to do something. To change something. To move through something. With pain brings inflammation. With Inflammation brings white blood cells, red blood cells and all the stuff to fix the problem and heal the area. So Pain therefore can also be a sign of the body doing Good things. Often I see Pain as a Journey. Somewhere is starts and somewhere it ends. We have a memory and often we gain something from this journey. It might be never to put your hand in the oven without an oven mitt ever again! #cleanse #organicfood #healthyinsides #gutright #naturopath #nutritionist #aromatherapy #detox #hormones #health

05.01.2022 STRESS AND GUT CONNECTION Is stress overtaking your gut health? The world is in unprecedented territory. Navigating through the uncertainty of the pandemic truly makes us value our health. However, above and beyond the health impacts, this uncertainty brings with it a lot of stress. And stress can impact your gut health!... Brain to Gut: What happens to our gut when we are stressed? When we are faced with a stressful situation our fight or flight mechanisms are activated. This sends a flood of stress hormones into our bodies. The main stress hormones are cortisol and adrenaline. With these hormones flying around the body, our heart rate and blood pressure increases, so too does our breathing and blood glucose levels. Interestingly, our digestive activity is also decreased or changed. For some, this can mean digestive processes stop, and for others it results in an urgent emptying of the bowels. Whichever the outcome, it is clear that stress affects digestive function. But beyond functional changes, stress can also impact the composition and function of the gut microbiome the community of microorganisms living in our gut. Animal studies have found that stress can make the gut and intestines more permeable, activating immune and pro-inflammatory responses which trigger additional stress hormones to be released. A recent study found that when healthy pregnant women were subjected to a social stress test, their changing cortisol levels were associated with shifts in the types and numbers of bacteria found in their gut. This may help explain why scientists have found that people with stress-associated conditions, such as depression and anxiety, have gut microbiomes that are different to healthy people. 04.01.2022 GLUTATHIONE - Master of Detoxification and Antioxidation Continuing on my liver theme this week... because I know y'all out there are sipping a glass of wine right now! Right? Well, if there was one thing that could help mitigate some damage, it would be this guy - Glutathione.... Phase II - Glutathione Conjugation (this is a key process in your Liver detox pathways). - Major detoxification pathway for drugs and carcinogens. - In addition to playing an important role in Phase II conjugation it is also the main intracellular reducing agent to protect against free radicals being produced in Phase I - Especially important for heavy metal clearance from the body. - Is available only through two routes: diet and synthesis. Dietary sources include: Fresh fruits Vegetables Fish Meats Nutrients required for the synthesis of glutathione and its three component amino acids include: Magnesium, potassium, B6, B12, folic acid, riboflavin, choline, methionine, N-acetyl cysteine, vitamin C, betaine, glycine, glutamic acid, copper, zinc, and selenium. Because Glutathione is so a big gun when it comes to detoxification we all want to make sure we support it as much as possible. One of the main precursors to Glutathione is N-acetyl cysteine (NAC). 02.01.2022 HOW TO UNDERSTAND YOUR RESULTS Often I hear women leaving from their doctors (or other practitioner) appointments confused and uncertain. Pathology interpretation is much more than checking for a result highlighted in red on the form.... In Functional Health, we attempt to not pigeon whole people into reference ranges that are wide and full of assumptions. We look for optional and ideal results and narrow those ranges to ensure that we are aiming for GREAT health, not just OK. My passion has always been to bring the person on the journey of understanding the results. Explaining, coaching and validating what the results mean, where they should be and what the correlation is with the results and the symptoms. A good indication is your gut feeling. If you have left a doctors or other practitioner appointment knowing something is wrong but were told your results are normal, then I urge you to dig deeper and not stop until you feel you have an appropriate answer. I offer Pathology Interpretation and Analysis consults. A one off appointment designed to give you my opinion and treatment plan without the obligation to continue under my care. This is perfect for people who have their health team but just want another opinion in order to better grasp the direction they want to travel in to get the GREAT health they deserve. 01.01.2022 Gut to Brain: Can supporting our gut microbiome help manage our stress? Our gut can communicate with our brain via multiple pathways including neural, hormonal, and immune. The main neural connection is through the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve runs the length of our body, connecting all our digestive organs (such as our stomach and intestines) to our brain.... This superhighway nerve allows the brain and gut to send signals to each other, however, most of the traffic runs in the direction from the gut to the brain. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter associated with mood and anxiety disorders, is one of the many substances that can activate the vagus nerve and send signals to the brain. Serotonin also plays a role in regulating our sleep, appetite and digestion and is therefore an important substance for our overall well-being. The majority of serotonin is produced in the gut by special cells which can be stimulated by the presence of the short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) butyrate and propionate. SCFAs are anti-inflammatory substances produced by gut bacteria that feed on prebiotic fibres found in plant-based foods. Diets high in prebiotic, plant-based foods may help improve your overall sense of wellbeing and increase your stress tolerance. Our gut bacteria are also able to produce GABA, another mood-associated neurotransmitter. Low brain (central) levels of GABA are often reported in people who suffer depression. Animal studies have shown that the gut microbiome influences circulating and brain levels of GABA, however, in humans it is unclear if the GABA produced by the gut bacteria impact on the levels in the brain. Gut bacteria that produce GABA include Bacteroides, Parabacteroides and Escherichia species and a recent study found that levels of Bacteroides were negatively correlated with brain patterns associated with depression. Many studies have shown a link between diet and the risk for depression, and this could be in part due to the ability of diet to shape and alter the gut microbiome. A diet with increasing evidence for providing a benefit in depression is the Mediterranean diet. #health #anxiety #wellness #relax #mindfulness #mentalhealth #Mediterraneandiet #guthealth

01.01.2022 HOW FLUORIDE IMPACTS THYROID Fluoride (as well as Chlorine and Bromide) are part of a group called Halides and are known endocrine disruptors. It blocks our receptor sites normally saved for Iodine to manufacture your Thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency is one of the most common minerals that impact our health today. We have estimated up to 80% of people in Australia have thyroid dysfunction based on Iodine deficiency. So with repeated exposure to fluoride you're exacerbatin...g your Iodine deficiency and can lead to significant impacts on your Thyroid....for example weight gain? Another reason why my daughter only drinks fluoride free water and uses fluoride free toothpaste is because fluoride is also a known neurotoxin. This means it's been shown, in a Chinese study, to impact IQ levels in children. I think it's better to be safe then not. Find out more here and what you can do to minimise exposure. https://www.inner-alchemy.com.au/inne/toothpaste-making-fat
