23.01.2022 ...But will the forest still be here when we come back? Jeanie Baker’s beautiful book ‘Where the Forest Meets the Sea’ is one of our favourite provocation tools to remind children of the importance of taking care of our environment and introducing different ways of being. Today the children engaged with this story and a group discussion, followed by an exploration of our own nature walk. The children were encouraged to touch the plant leaves, bark and reminded to take care of their immediate surroundings in celebration of NAIDOC Week. This week we have been feeling especially inspired by the @kooricurriculum to keep improving our practice and inclusivity

21.01.2022 Look what I found! Over the past few days the children have been investigating Feijoas. We have a large tree in the backyard and every year enjoy being able to gather and try this unique fruit. The children have shown lots of interest in finding the Feijoas each morning. Today we sat down and counted how many we found - 35 in total! Hopefully once they ripen fully we can enjoy them with one of our meals

18.01.2022 Today we noticed some of the tomatoes in our growing area were ready to be eaten. The children picked them, collected them and then counted them. We enjoyed them with today’s afternoon tea

17.01.2022 During outdoor play a few of our children were spontaneously practicing their balancing so we set up an obstacle course in the sand pit. Children have been involved in risky play and challenged to take risks through this spontaneous munch and move experience

15.01.2022 It was a very happy sad day yesterday as we had our Kookaburra children graduate from Carlingford Kindergarten here are work samples of half of our CK graduates drawing themselves in their graduation gowns

14.01.2022 Today as a transition to school experience our Kookaburra children were asked to draw our seedling pots that we planted yesterday at stage 1 After they were asked to predict how long they think it will take for them to sprout

13.01.2022 During play in the sand pit this week some of the children began making patterns on the wooden surface using their hands. This then progressed to some of the older children drawing on the surface.

13.01.2022 Here are the other half of our CK graduates

12.01.2022 Loose parts creations Despite having a l resource rich construction area, sometimes it is important to limit the resources children have access to for certain activities. We find this extends their creativity and challenges their thinking

10.01.2022 Today during outdoor play the children were able to continue their interest in combing sand play with construction. After digging some very large holes, the children spontaneously grabbed a long plank to make a bridge, then added lights and other ornaments.

10.01.2022 Since last Friday our newly planted seedlings have grown significantly. In continuing from the children’s work last week, today they were encouraged to draw the seedlings again to document the growth progress. Please swipe to the end to see how the seedlings are going! Artwork by Thomas (5y2m), Maxwell (5y8m), Xavier (5y2m), Ethan (5y7m), Noah (5y5m), Harper (4y11m), Aurora (4y8m), Zoe (4y7m)

07.01.2022 Over the last few weeks the children have throughly enjoyed engaging in small world ocean play This play originated from a family holiday story and evolved into the children incorporating sand play, shells, rocks and different temperatures of water. It has more recently extended into learning about various sea creatures, with the use of books to match and identify them Swipe through to see just a snapshot of the children’s recent moments of play.

06.01.2022 Whose footprint is that? Yesterday a simple question led to a rich spontaneous discussion and learning experience for the children. They enjoyed comparing footprint sizes, predicting what the shape and imprint would be made, and guessing who had made the initial footprints.

05.01.2022 After cutting and eating our spinach only 4 weeks ago, it has already grown back. Some of the children showed curiosity in this and were asked if they would like to try some of the re-grown spinach as well as some of our celery that we have also been growing

01.01.2022 What letters can you see here? Yesterday during play the children made the above creations. Restricted to using only rocks and rolka blocks, it was amazing to see how varied the children’s creations were. 1 Our first picture shows letters and symbols being created 2 The formation of houses, each with a different purpose 3 Extending the house concept to create a village, with adjoining roads
