25.01.2022 School holidays are coming up soon! Spending time in the sun and exploring nature is a great way for you and your family to enjoy the great outdoors. The thing is, sometimes spending time outside means we share the same space as those sneaky mosquitos. For proven long lasting protection, look for insect repellents that contains DEET (diethyltoluamide). It not only protects you and your family against mosquitoes but flies, leeches and ticks. ... If you are spending more time outside, consider using a repellent with a higher concentration of DEET. The higher concentration, the longer the effects will last . DEET is suitable for most children but consider a lower concentration and speak to our pharmacist for more options. There are other mosquito repellents that will give you extra protection. Consider citronella patches, wipes and bands which are also suitable for children.

14.01.2022 Breathing. We all know our body needs oxygen to survive but just how important is it to actually be mindful of your breathing? When we control our breathing with belly breathing or deep breathing, we send a signal to our brain keep calm down and relax. Breathing deeply delivers more oxygen to our brain and tells our body that we are safe. ... Here are the benefits of deep breathing - Reduces blood pressure - Slows down your heart rate - Alleviates stress and anxiety - Alleviates depression - Improves pain management - Increases focus and attention Breathing is not just essential to life but has cardiovascular and psychological benefits. Controlled breathing may feel unnatural at first but with practice, it will become a life changing habit. Here is one technique from: www.healthdirect.gov.au/relaxation-techniques-for-stress-re Relaxation techniques usually start with focusing on your breathing. The way to do it is to breathe in and out slowly, using a regular rhythm since this will help you to calm down. 1. Breathe in, filling the whole of your lungs with air but without forcing. Imagine you're filling up a bottle, so that your lungs fill from the bottom. 2. You should breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. 3. Breathe in slowly and regularly, counting from 1 to 5 (don't worry if you can't reach 5 at first). 4. Then let the breath escape slowly, counting from 1 to 5. 5. Keep doing this until you feel calm. Breathe without pausing or holding your breath. You should practise this relaxed breathing for 3 to 5 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day (or whenever you feel stressed). If you have a lung or heart condition, speak to your doctor about a suitable breathing technique.
