01.01.2022 We felt lucky to win the Carnarvon Cup once but twice has exceeded our expectations, said part-owner Terry Moir after Espresso Lass won back-to-back Cups last... month. The eight-year-old mare commenced her career in South Australia and was secured by Tony and the syndicate via connections with former Geraldton jockey Dominic Tourneur. Eleven years ago a group of us involved in the Railways Football Club in Geraldton formed a syndicate in association with local trainer Tony Scally to purchase a horse to run here, said Terry. Espresso Lass raced in Geraldton with some success, but it was Tony Scally’s association with fellow trainer Michelle Valentine that would pay dividends for the group. "Michelle showed interest in taking the mare to Carnarvon to race on a dirt track and she has relished the change. To win two Cups has surprised us all and hopefully she’ll be in good order next year to make it three in a row. Congratulations to Terry and the syndicate on their success.
