21.01.2022 ** Glen Eira Leisure closure ** Dear Member, For the continued good health of our community to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will be closing all Glen ...Eira Leisure facilities with effect from Monday 23 March 2020 until further notice. The closure of our facilities has been made in accordance with the Victorian Government’s shutdown of all non-essential activity across our State to combat the spread of COVID-19. There are no confirmed cases of the virus within Glen Eira Leisure staff or members. We understand how important this facility is to you as a customer and recognise this is a difficult time for everybody. We will continue to do what is best for our community by monitoring the situation very closely and following the advice of the Department of Health and Human Services and the Victorian Chief Medical Officer. Your membership will automatically be placed on free suspension during the time that we are closed, so you will not be charged. Any fees paid in advance will be credited to your account. We will remain contactable throughout the closure period should you have any questions. We will also ensure we provide updates as they become available. In the meantime, you can keep updated via our website and social media pages. 11.01.2022 The end of a season Carnegie Swim Centre closure. As a Council we are committed to making safe and environmentally responsible decisions. For this reason, Car...negie Swim Centre will be closed for the remainder of the season. Director Community Wellbeing Peter Jones said that not long after opening the Centre for the summer season, a significant leak was identified contributing to the loss of 150 kilolitres of water per day. Once we were aware of this significant leak, we engaged external engineers to do an assessment of the pool to seek clarity on the impact and if it was something that could be fixed, he said. After the assessment was done, the precise location of the leak still couldn’t be determined which meant we could not safely reopen the Centre to the community. From a health and safety perspective the pool water is consistently falling below the mandatory water quality regulations and forced pool closures would probably occur regularly throughout the season, he said. This significant loss of water has subsequently impacted the overall water quality making it impossible for us to maintain regulatory water chemistry. And from an environmental perspective, this volume of water loss is unacceptable. While Council acknowledges this will be a huge disappointment to the community, safety is paramount and must always come first. Carnegie Swim Centre has been operating since 1966 and is an iconic attraction in Glen Eira. Unfortunately, the much-loved pool is now at the end of its serviceable life.

11.01.2022 Carnegie Swim Centre is temporarily closed due to a significant leak in the 50M pool causing more than 150,000 litres of water to be lost each day. Further inve...stigations into the leak are underway which will take longer than first anticipated due to the scale of the problem. To allow for adequate investigation, Carnegie Swim Centre will remain closed until 30 November. We will provide a further update prior to this date. We apologise for the inconvenience and would like to reassure our community that we are doing all we can, along with our contractors, to get our much-loved pool open again. Booking spaces have been expanded at Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre to cope with the extra demand and there will be even greater availability from Monday 23 November due to planned easing of restrictions. We thank you for your patience during this time.
